The next thing to come out of the Valise is a small (palm sized) box filled with some kind of white powder and a number of capsules, it is most definitely NOT snuff.
Can someone in the group identify this? (rolling craft pharmacy)
Quote:
There's a pamphlet about an exposition in San Francisco dealing with the wonders of the solar system and featuring a variety of artifacts brought back from Mars, Venus, and Mercury.
Is that exhibition still open?
Quote:
There's writing around the outer edge the likes of which you've never seen and there's a series of incomplete geometric designs that appear to run off the sides.
Can someone identify anything about the writing or designs? Or can we roll for it with a skill?
Quote:
About 1/3 of these letters are more personal, letters from his parents, aunts and uncles, and there's even a couple pretty racy ones from a woman named Eleanor.
Can Eleanor be identify and located?

OOC:
You would hazard a guess that the powder is cocaine.

The exposition is just about to start, it opens day after tomorrow.

Both Ruby and Mariette think that the writing bares a striking similarity to Martian but... where say modern Martian is more like Hieratic and this is more like the root Hieroglyphs. That is to say, Mariette thinks the writing might be ancient Martian and Ruby concurs.

There is an address in Paris for Eleanor, the letters are a few months to several years old so the corresponance seems to have been going on for a while. Eleanor's address doesn't change through this whole time even after the Commune took over in France her address remains the same.
Buford spends a while looking at the people who vanished and their occupations and ponders out loud at one point, "If they intended to take those particular folk I wonder if they got the wrong twin." Mariette simply nods, "The though 'ad occurred to me."

Nathaniel will suggest to the group that if the mysterious airship crew were after the strange metallic artifact now in their possession, they might also seek its twin that seems to connect to it like a jigsaw.

"The attack on the train was vicious, ruthless and very blatant. I think it is our duty to at least warn the curator of the exhibition that a dangerous party might consider attacking them to procure the other fragment. Maybe a visit to the telegraph office is in order, these criminals might not hesitate to attack a museum full of civilians, to pursue their goals."

"Mmm. I'm not so certain about that. While they were quite brutal in their attack, they maneuvered quite strongly to avoid witnesses. They won't be able to be so direct in a big city.

And, if they do, what's a curator gonna do about it? That's even if he would believe a random threat from a crazy sounding stranger...

We also don't want to tip our hands. They don't know us and they don't know we are after them. I wanna keep it that way for a while. If we get to San Francisco fast enough, we could have an opportunity to grab the 2nd artefact yourself. For safekeeping of course! Or we might be able to spot and follow the Germans snooping around the artefact. In both case, discretion is our ace in the hole."

"I see your point, and the advantage of acting covertly. I just hope that waiting to warn them will not result in further bloodshed... I am not sure someone prepared to blow up a train will not be ruthless enough to attack a major city... their attack is unprecedented," he comments mournful.

"We could send them a telegram in the morning, tell them to say that part of the display was misplaced while it was in transit from Atlanta." Helen says, "That way they could secure the fragment."

"There is no way were are catching up to a Zeppelin," Mariette remarks. "They do no 'ave to follow any roads, we do."

"Do you suppose they'll send men back to the wreck with clean up teams to try and find the valise?" Ruby asks.

Buford nods, "Seems reasonable, if they're really after this thing, they ain't gonna give up easy."

"That telegram could work. Let's call it a night and get ready to leave tomorrow, sound good?"
