Greetings people! I introduced myself a while back: after spending some time being held hostage setting up some cool game ideas with Yamazaki, a person whom I already knew from another community, I am finally here, ready to start what, I assume, will constitute the bulk of my experience in this community.

Who I am

Italian, 30 years old, data analyst turned videogame designer. I currently work from home due to COVID concerns, by which I mean that I already have a somewhat serious condition which makes me a high-risk subject should I catch the virus, so yeah, right now self-isolating and creating a new lifestyle that's as homebound as possible is my top priority. This does mean that a worsening of my existing condition or, God forbid, a COVID case in my family might cause me to abruptly disappear from this community... But on the plus side, as long as that doesn't happen I'm going to have A LOT of free time to dedicate to pbp roleplays.

What I'm looking for

It is a fact that AP-based games take forever to get to high levels. It is also a fact that, on the internet, non-AP games tend to die one month into the first dungeon, with the DM and/or the majority of the players just up and vanishing into thin air. Due to this I have accumulated, over the months and years, numerous character concepts (most based on characters from Korean MMO Elsword, I just like the designs please don't judge me), characters that were designed to do certain things at high levels but never made it there. It is my dream to finally have a place where I can play these characters: for this reason, I would like people to run "second half" games for me, I.E. games that start at level 10 then make a honest effort to get, with a methodical but steady pace, all the way to level 20.

The systems I am looking to play such characters in are D&D 5e and Pathfinder 1e (with or without Spheres of Power, I'd honestly rather not play with other 3pp systems such as Path of War). As for themes, tones and plots, I would leave those to the prospective DMs willing to humor this request of mine: do keep in mind that I'm am a bit of a weeb, and there is also the fact that my real life situation is quite depressing at the moment. As such, a more light-hearted, tongue in cheek, anime-like tone would go over much better with me, rather than those bleak, gritty, edgy stories you'll sometimes see in sites like this. Mind you, with this I'm not saying that I want happy unicorns and rainbows, I am still more than happy to deal with serious, adult themes... As long as the game is not taking itself too seriously when it comes to those, as long as the overall mood remains ironic and avoids getting too broody: to make a early 2000s superhero movie example, Sam Raimi's Spiderman is ok, Ben Affleck's Daredevil is not ok. If you want to throw back and forth specific ideas so as to get my imput on a potential plot/setting, feel free to do so either here or by messaging me privately. You can also hit me up on the community's Discord if you want.

What I am offering in return

I am a long-time player and DM, with many years of experience running games of all kinds: once again, I am particularly specialized in D&D 5e and Pathfinder 1e. I also have enough experience with Spheres of Power to confidently include that system in any PF game I might play, and on top of all that I am a game designer, so I take pride in my ability to come up with unique mechanics to spice things up in my games: from relationship values with NPCs granting you concrete combat advantages, to skill trees that can grant you additional powers on top of what your class gives you, to unique mechanics to recreate the effect of "combat phases" in boss battles, you can expect each and every one of my games to offer something new. So yeah, with all these in mind, I am more than willing to run, for whomever may request it, any of the following:

1) Any WotC-published D&D 5e adventure (with my own personal twists and spins).

2) Any Paizo-published PF 1e AP (with my own personal twists and spins).

3) Any adaptation to pbp form of your favorite videogame/anime/manga (you can request anything for this, although I reserve the right to decline titles I particularly hate. Fortunately there aren't many).

Generally I am most comfortable running duo games, so games designed for a party of two people: however, I am also perfectly willing and able to run solo games as well as games for up to five players. Regardless of this exchange I am proposing, there are high chances that I might start a game with the characteristics I just outlined in the near-ish future: if/when I do, anyone who has volunteered to run something for me in the meantime will receive a guaranteed spot. When it comes to the games you'll run for me, I am ok both with going solo and with being part of a group of up to five players. In fact, if there are people you're willing to bring on board for the game you'll run for me, I'll be glad to bring them on board for the game I'll run for you: that would be after all a good way to start making friends in this forum.

This is all for now: I hope to hear from you guys soon!

Welcome to the community. I’ve been away from Gamersplane myself for a couple years now due to school, and I’m happy to see it’s still growing. I’m sure you’ll find what you are looking for around here, 5e seems to be a favorite on the site. Sorry to hear about your situation, but it’s always good to take steps to protect health. God Bless.

Greetings and salutations.

Sadly, what I usually have to offer are games in other systems. Not because of any dislike of D&D or PF, but simply because I own way too many game systems, and dammit, I'm going to get to play or GM them! Anyways, if you ever feel like trying something different, feel free to contact me.

How would you feel if I ran some modules starting on the higher end of the spectrum? As realised that could work, and let me get used to high level play on pbp.

Edit: Meant to add, in Pathfinder. Idea would be people are a group.team of seasoned adventures, slowly moving around. I can likely slowly homebrew my own connections etc. Would warn I do have a fair few house rules (though most are the feat tax rules).

Are you talking about APs but only doing the late books, or are you talking about individual modules designed for high level? Both can work, but before I voice my opinion I need to have it clarified which one we're discussing.

Individual modules, with some home brew possible thrown in as I find my feet on high levels. I have access to ones for 10 through to 14, and then 16 and 17. Though Looking into society ones could also work.

You know, this could be a very good idea. Like, create a situation in which the player (or playerS, if you'd be willing to have people on board other than me) have a reason for being, you know, people who have a HQ and then from there go on various missions. Like a PI investigating various cases, or members of adventurer's guild going on quests, or other stuff like that, you get the idea. And then the various modules ARE the missions: this way we create a "fluid" environment that makes it possible to decide how long the whole thing will last, and in which direction the overall plot will go, pretty much on the fly (although if at all possible I'd like to go all the way to level 20, people leaving before we can get there nonwithstanding).

Are we talking vanilla PF1, or are we talking Spheres of Power? I'm fine either way.

I would be up for multiple people if you are. Especially if the sacred word is mentioned he who shall not be named will be summoned :P

I am allowing Sphere use in another game of mine, so am ambivalent, up to the players. I will be using my own house rules, which are mostly feat tax and rulings on obscure things that have come up in play.

And yeah adventure guild or similar is what I was thinking.

We could bring in a person to make it a duo game. Or we could bring in three people to make this a traditional party of four: both these options are ok with me, so whichever you prefer. And of course, the people who will join me in this one will then be welcomed to join you in the game I will run for you.

Speaking of: anything in particular you want for that?

Most are written for four, so easier for me to fiddle with (though likely will be at slightly least anyway as house rules).

I'll have a think on game. One is return of the rune lords, but I also have want to try and convince an IRL group to run through the trilogy start to finish. (Definitely IRL as as you point out, pbo is very slow) I may just wait to see that 'high chance game' you were talking about and see if that okay. Unless it's unlikely to be pathfinder as that's what I would jump on.

That high chance game would be a PF AP. So you either choose now and get the AP you want, or I decide and you get whatever AP I have chosen :p

Hai, I'm sorry about your health and I get it, my mom and I are self-isolating for the same reason so I've been throwing myself hard into finding and playing pbp matches. I'm still learning D&D as I only started at the beginning of May, but if you want to DM or anyone else wants to host a 5e game, I'm down for participating!!!

I don't really think I could DM you a game in response though, I don't know anything truly to be able to do that :/

An update: I have set up a couple of interesting high-level exchanges for PF1, so yeah, unless one of those falls apart I think I can consider myself satisfied when it comes to that system.

I am still in the market for at least one D&D 5e high level exchange, so if anyone is interested please do feel free to contact me!
