Character Gen and discussion

Discuss character ideas here, including how you all know each other. As said you are likely all members of a guild or similar, but I will leave the details up to you. Also the place for HP rolls for those who wish to risk it

I would be happy to come up with a character to fill a niche in the party.

I have never gotten close to high level play before - every AP I’ve been involved with has died out at around the end of the first book, so I have never even really considered it to the point where I have a concept I’m dying to play, hence I’d rather help facilitate that for others, then build something complementary. I find I work more creatively once I have limitations anyways.

I've been itching to give the Bloodbinder Armorist a shot, as a tanky frontliner. I'm a sucker for unusual spellblade builds...

hmm. Ill need to crack my books. Ill see what other are thinking first

I will most certainly make a Hedgewitch. I have two concepts in mind:

1) A Hedgewitch that is focused entirely on casting: this concept would be inspired by Elsword's Herrscher and, by taking the Umbral path, would focus on making the most of Create Reality to convey the effect of a "godly" being who, by mastering the shadowy arts, has essentially mastered all forms of magic (I can recreate the effects of any magic sphere, potentially).

2) A Martial Hedgewitch with the Combat path: this would be inspired by Daybreaker, also from Elsword. The idea is to take the Life sphere and then have a very limited set of magical powers, which would be dedicated entirely to buffing and healing: leftovers talents as well as feats are invested in the Sniper martial sphere, so as to create a powerful archer. So yeah, stay in the back, headshot people, and buff/heal companions when the necessity arises: essentially a stronger, Int-based ranger.

I'm thinking a rogue/Warlock with a bit of kaboom. (Is there a hybrid class? I know there hybrids of several other classes)
Aug 4, 2020 9:08 pm
Hmm, so frontline melee, arcane caster|martial buffer, melee flanker arcane caster hybrid thus far?

I’m thinking maybe a divine caster doing stuff at range, but I’ll need to check Spheres of Power out first - have only interacted with Spheres of Might thus far.

By the way, any preference as to which of my two concepts you'd rather play with?

Arcane Trickster? I don't know if Warlock is a spheres thing or you mean a blasty class,

I have no idea how well multi-classing/Prestige classes works with spheres I will pass that to Yama.

So for those who haven't seen my massive rants on the GP discord...

@Librarian - there is no warlock class in PF nor Spheres. Elementalist or Incanter will get you close to the classic blasty nature of the warlock, though. Obviously, fluff wise the Witch is your best bet. Although to pull an arcane trickster, there's a handful of routes you can take, including Fey Adept w/Unseelie Adept (which gets sneak attack and a lot of skill points) or some champion classes while taking the Fencing Sphere.

@chunky - spheres doesn't technically have arcane nor divine casting. Magic is magic is magic. The source of the magic is fluff to it. That said, almost all the old PF classes have sphere conversion archetypes (I believe the kinesist is the only thing left out at this point, while occultist is getting one in the upcoming Archetypes of Power 2 book), so you are welcome to check out some of hte old standbys. Otherwise, Incanter (aka build a spherecaster), Hedgewitch, and Soul Weaver can capture some of the feel of a divine caster, depending on what you want to focus on.

Side note - you may find it easiest to pick a sphere or two to focus on, maybe a third that you dip into if need be. For example, my Armorist is mostly focusing on the Blood sphere, with a dip into Protection and Fate, and some stuff on the martial side to support the combat style.

@Tears - okay, you need less help than the others lol. Just a note - for the Herrcher build, you may find Fey Adept to be a better route (full caster progression), unless the second tradition from Hedgewitch makes a bigger difference.

That said, I think the Daybreaker idea may be our best bet - I know my armorist is going to need support to keep operating in full bloody queen glory. Even if it's just making sure someone provides covering fire lol. Also the contrast between characters would be quite amusing to me.

HOWEVER, and I say this every time (and not because of my forever GM nature) - play whatever sounds the most fun to you.

EDIT - I'll be online on both the GP discord as well as Light's Discord, happy to help with spheres stuff. I'm online every weekday, and off-n-on during the weekends.

It does. I definitely didn't choose Hedgewitch over Fey Adept lightly :p

Concerning your Bloody Queen idea: do keep in mind that the whole gimmick of my Herrscher would be "I can recreate whatever kind of magic I want", so yeah, IN THEORY this should allow me to play literally all the roles, including buffing and healing if need be. Granted, my Daybreaker would be better at it on the account of having better action economy (with Herrscher, if I'm using my shadowy abilities to recreate buffs and heals then I'm not using them to recreate stuff that would actually help kill the enemy), but yeah, don't count the Herrscher out either. Essentially, if all you need is healing and suppressing fire, both my concepts can provide those, although yes, Daybreaker is undeniably better at it.

You know, it would be funny if you could actually model your character concept after Bloody Queen, complete with using Bloody Queen as your character pic and roleplaying a similar mannerism (like I myself will be doing for Herrscher/Daybreaker). Then we get the rest of the party to play other Elsword characters (Ara is a perfect character pic for a skirmisher, Elsword for a tank, Add for a psionics-based battlefield controller, etc), and then we just turn this campaign into an Elsword homage ;)

BTW, Create Reality is pretty constrained on what it can emulate - it's limited to destructive blasts, companions, physical objects, nature and weather effects, and glamers. The Shadow Magic feat gives you a bit wider range to work with, but still quite limited. So your Herrscher wouldn't normally be able to heal, unless your ability is the flex-talent kinda deal. Which as I'm typing it, is the reason why you're going hedgewitch... I see now LOL

I was gonna play up Bloody Queen as my image and try to play up her personality a bit. Well, as much of it as I actually know, given that I never got that far into Elsword (farthest I got was making my Elsword a Rune Slayer, and stopped pretty much right after that, since this was long before even Elesis was introduced). One of these days I'll give the game another go, but that may wait a while - not a lot of PC gaming going on these days with my ancient old laptop lol

But yes, I'd find it pretty funny if everyone else played up Elsword characters. I wouldn't make anyone do that, though.

Yep :p

In regards to everyone playing Elsword characters: I must stress my idea is only a matter of appearance, nothing more. It's not like I'm expecting anyone to be LOYAL to the canon personality/backstory of Elsword characters, nor am I expecting the campaign to recreate Elsword's plot. But in terms of physical appearance, it would be both cool and funny if everyone could use Elsword characters as pics lol.

Besides, good writing and character development are exactly the strongest suits of an MMO, especially one as rooted in anime tropes as Elsword is. So if you want your personality to be as close as possible to that of your chosen character, even if you know nothing about the character or you've never played Elsword at all you simply have to look at that character's appearance: more often than not, their personality is exactly what they look like it would be. Bloody Queen, the character you're going for, is perhaps the quintessential example of this.

Update guys: Gonna let you all go to 25 pb. I default to 20, but Tears made a comment that made me think, as 25 does give you all a little more flexibility in building.

The fae adept or hedge witch sound fun. However I am currently without internet due to the storm, and can't access the books at the moment. I'm using GP on my phone and reading manuals that small isn't fun. which book is the fae/unseelie adept in?
Aug 5, 2020 9:48 pm
Here/ is their wiki. I believe this is the best source. (I'll let the others correct me if I am wrong.
Aug 6, 2020 1:44 am
The wiki is indeed the best source, and is maintained by some of the DDS staff, and is only 2ish weeks behind splat book releases. That said, if PDF format is easier, Ultimate Spheres of Power is the main source.

I have never heard of Elsword before, could anyone put up as link so I can get somewhat up to speed?
Aug 6, 2020 7:11 am
Not a proper link because phone interface sucks, but just type elwiki.net

That said I repeat: all I am asking is that you check out what the various characters, in their ultimate jobs, look like: my proposition strictly pertains to appearance, I'm not asking anyone to actually know anything about the game's story or anything like that.

Although to be fair the game's story is the most generic, formulaic thing, so yeah, chances are that even without trying we might end up having some elements in common with it: again, deep innovative writing is not what MMOs are known for lol

So guys, what's everyone going for in the end? Knowing more about how the party is shaping up will help me decide which concept of mine I should lock :)
