So there we are creating our first D6 characters. We'll use the "Defined Limits" method from the rulebook.
Just copy the template to your character sheet thread and we can begin.

General Information
There are a ton of customization options in the chapters two and four of the rulebook. If you want to you can dig through them and pick some of the advantages, disadvantages and special abilities but please seek my approval prior to including them. I really want to you all to have cool characters but I also have to keep the balancing in mind. If you want to you can choose one cybernetic implant.

If you don't want to dig through all the options just shoot me your idea and I'll suggest fitting options for you.

The same goes for alien races. The default race is human. If you want you can choose an alien race from the alien supplement or you just tell me your idea and I'll make an alien race that fits your imagination as well as possible. There really are hardly any limits on what you can play.

Just post your concept in your character's thread and I'll explain the next steps. Those will differ a bit for each of you so I'll individually lead you through the creation of your character if you wish so.
If you are using a template or you are already familiar with D6 just create away :D

Here you can download all the D6 rulebooks including the D6-Space rulebook that we are using

Submitted the Technical Wiz Template from the Open D6 Project "Space Templates" page.

Background:

Danica "Dani" Faraday

The daughter of a swamp rat (crew member of a salvage dredger/mining/whatever someone will pay for down there outfit) and a station hole-in-the-bulkhead greasy spoon and coffee shop owner, Dani is a born and bread Westie. She showed a mechanical aptitude early, helping keep the food processors and salvage gear running all her young life. By the time she was a teenager, she was helping around the station with anything and everything. She's never met a machine she didn't like, even the ones she hates on a personal, deep level only a Scotts and Irish Ginger can muster. Cheerful, outgoing, a little spacey at times, a little hypermanic and with a hidden temper that can flare as bright and hot as a star, Dani is never dull to be around.

Before I post my backstory, what is the overall status of things like robots and AI. I just want to play a robot really. I'll make whatever fits work, but I do like the idea of an accidental consciousness.

I've got my character sheet started and am slowly filling it out. Since you mentioned cybernetics I took a closer look at those rules. I was first thinking of an aural upgrade so the character could eavesdrop more effectively and more surreptitiously but that seems to require two slots and you've only allowed one. Or is that one implant no matter how many slots it takes? My second thought was a neural jack and taking a hand comp with a neural jack outlet but for the single purpose of enabling quicker reactions to flying skills like dodging attacker assaults in a souped up ship. Let me know which way is better from your game mastering perspective.

Robots are commonly used for assistance and for scenarios that are too dangerous for humans. On a space station you will find cleaning robots sweeping the floor, maintenance robots that crawl over the outside of the hull and fix damages and transport robots that help with all kinds of logistics.
True AI is something that is researched but is very heavily regulated because there is apprehension that a sentient robot could lead to an robot uprising.
AI is somewhat advanced so that robots can do even difficult tasks but so far no one has heard of a fully sentient robot that has self reflection and fully independent behaviour.

The aural upgrade is no problem. The upgrade slots are for enhancing the implant. So you could install additional upgrades in your cybernetic ear

I want so many things I'm suffering from indecision. :) I'm glad we're using Defined Limits because it gives us so much flexibility, but I'm wondering if you'd like us to try and fit one of the roles outlined in the templates or are we able to choose things we think makes the most sense for the type of person we're playing regardless of whether it makes them an ideal fit for something. That was a super weird way of asking if we should be creating optimized characters or not.

The latter is the case. You can make your character as you like.
If you need any kind of guidance or inspiration just ask ^^

I’m postulating a character who’s a thief or maybe a con-artist who’s also a singer at one of the station’s clubs or cabarets.
Sep 8, 2020 7:29 pm
There is a nice con-artist template in the rulebook. ZivenOfNine linked to a page where the templates are in a format that makes it nice to copy into your character sheet

I've also written a quick step by step guide for character creation if you want to it from scratch.

For a con artist I'd suggest a high perception and agility score. Knowledge would also be a nice thing to have.
Maybe invest some skill die into con, sleight of hand and artist.

You could also have the advantage of contacts at the expense of an enemy that's after you
The Good Luck and Ventriloquism, special abilities could also be worth having a look

Since our characters haven't been accepted or even submitted I can't roll my 2d6 for body points. I'll just have to remember to do that later.
Sep 8, 2020 11:26 pm
I must have forgotten to submit my query about cybernetics. I was pondering just a single eye.
Sep 9, 2020 12:19 am
Oh? Is your character also purple and does it eat people? And does it have one horn and does it fly? That's a song from Sheb Wooley in 1958. I remember listening to it on my clock radio in my bedroom when I was a kid of about 10. I loved it so much I was bouncing on the bed like a 4 year old.
Sep 9, 2020 12:25 am
It only eats purple people. But that's not the reason why it came to land.
Sep 9, 2020 12:43 am
Oh, that's right. He changed his name and joined a rock band. He eventually joined Queen and changed his name to Freddie.
Sep 9, 2020 12:49 am
What a sight to see...

I was getting at the single eye replacement but your dad joke strength is strong.

I'm looking at the rules now and Cybernetics are silly expensive and I only have 500Cr.

I'm looking at Advans and Disads. We can have up to 10 points in Disad's it looks like we can buy Advantages with the points we get from Disads and then any spare points we can throw into our character build?
Sep 9, 2020 2:38 am
I looked at the advans and was disappointed by the dearth. Not sure what I expected so I'll have to think on it awhile. I'll have to look at the disadvans first and see what might be the opposite or what might balance the disadvan.

I'm thinking that if we wanted a ship it might be good to have a Patron but with that you would also have a Debt. I haven't heard yet from Scrol regarding how we came by a ship although we're supposed to have one. Probably a broken down rust bucket that's more of a money pit than a space going pleasure vessel. But then a Smuggler will always complain about how terrible his ship is.
Sep 9, 2020 3:15 am
I assume (ass u me) that the dice you earn from disads go to skills not attributes but can also be used to buy advantages.
Sep 9, 2020 3:48 am
Wow... Do not look at the starship pictures in the Ships book. There's a lot of great starship images out there.
