Character creation

Thanks for posting the character creation guide. I'm new to this system and it helps me. I'm sorry I haven't posted my sheet yet. To summarize my concept, I'm thinking of building a technical robot character with a little bit of social skills mixed in so he can fly in under the radar. He gained sentence by accident, and is actually very upset about the whole affair. He's giving the whole self determination thing a chance, but he has low expectations. Think marvin from hitchhikers guide to the galaxy meets the droid from rogue one.

Regarding cybernetics: if you choose a cybernetic implant at character creation you get some associated advantage that you choose. You pay for that advantage with skill die. The monetary costs for cybernetics only apply if you get an implant after character creation.

If you choose advantages in general you pay for them with skill die. If you choose disadvantages you get skill die.

No problem. I'll post a robot character sheet template for you when I get home.

I was thinking of a cyber eye that aids the character in breaking into security systems and defeating locks. I'm was thinking about giving it a disadvantage that it gives the user headaches because the resolution is so crisp or maybe it's stuck in a different wave length of light.

Given that this place is a kind of Nar Shadda or smugglers moon, would having some infamy or police worries matter much here or would those kinds of things trigger when you leave and go somewhere else? I want to kind of balance things out. Maybe the crime boss makes sure the character has a good life here, comfortable accommodations etc but when the boss says jump I say "how high?" Maybe the boss takes a cut of whatever loot I procure.

I'm thinking the character is indebted to a local crime boss or smuggler boss who managed to get them out of a sticky situation so now they kind of are at their beckon call. The character is more of a thief / cat burgler who moonlights as a singer than a conman. I'll post where I'm at currently to the character thing and we can talk me through moving the concept forward from there.

Just looked through your character sheet. Nicely done ;)

I'd suggest that your eye has the following skill bonus: Observant: +1 to any skill roll total of sleight of hand, investigation and search

As long as you didn't commit any serious crime like murder, piracy, armed robbery or the like the police forces will leave you alone as long as you stay peaceful.

Maybe the sticky situation you were in was the loss of your eye due to an infection. A burglar needs both eyes for three dimensional perception. So a local crime boss paid for the medical treatment and the implant. Now you have to pay him back. Of course with interest.
This would also be a disadvantage that'd balance out the cybernetic eye
That's just a suggestion of course

If you are indebted to a crime boss with influence in the whole sector you'd gain another skill die because it would be a disadvantage of rank two.

Now, how can I apply all of the above to my hearing implant. The hearing aids I use now only make everything louder. What I'd like is something that makes speech more understandable when there is a lot of ambient sound and, in this case, will pick up speech through a wall or some other barrier. Would something like that be an R1 or something higher than that?

I've gone about as far as I can without rolling some dice so I'm submitting the character and will look for a place to roll for Funds and Body Points. I'm not sure the background story is complete. There's so much that could use some explanation that I could write a whole book.

I am just back from vacation and am catching up on all my games. What is everyone else playing and what type of character do we need round out our party?

The "Extra Sense" special ability fits that nicely.
"You add +1D to all checks regarding the source and/or nature of sounds. You can also add +1 to all hearing based skill checks"
That would be a rank 1 ability and therefore cost 1 skill dice.
Later on in the adventure you can get the possibility to enhance your mechanical ear.

I created a rolling thread where you can post your rolls

As far as I know we have a mechanic, a robot, an intellectual character, a thief and a pilot
We don't have a designated combat character, no scientist or medic. D6 doesn't really have classes and allows for a rather nuanced character build so don't feel pressured to make a character that fills a cliché role.

If you need help just shoot me a message. Either here or on discord

I think I will make a combat medic.

Who will be our gunner or does your pilot have to do double duty. Where's my Chewy? But it's good to have an intellectual character with us. Poetry reading every Thursday night. I've always been partial to Longfellow and the murmuring pines and the hemlocks. I had to memorize the 19 line prologue when I was in Junior High. There was no Middle School in those days. I've loved the unrhymed dactylic hexameter and the nod to Homer in the work. Longfellow once said of his work "'Evangeline' is so easy for you to read, because it was so hard for me to write." I certainly found it so.

Oh nice, Smuggler guy from SWTOR, Nico Okarr. Good choice.

Rolling for hit points and moneys. I've gotten the nuts and bolts figured out, but I haven't done the deep dive into the gear and the alternatives. When are we starting? I can get a fleshed out backstory out by tomorrow if need be. Basic backstory is the same.

Edit; i apparently can't roll. is anyone else having this issue?

There's a separate thread for rolling dice

We will probably start at the weekend or next week. Some characters are still in the making. So no need to hurry. After all this is a new system for most of us

Gunner is a separate duty so you can focus on flying your ship. It's a mechanical skill so whoever has either invested some skill die in gunnery or has a decent amount of die in the 'Mechanical attribute' is suited for the job.

I'll probably be able to finish up this weekend. I'm working today a weird split shift so today is kind of out... but hey I'll make enough OT tonight to buy a PS5 if I want to, so that's good. Friday is the kid's first day back to school and he's a bit of a nervous wreck about it, or maybe I'm a bit of a nervous wreck so I'm expecting Friday to be a write off.

I posted my character but it is not complete, still working on advantages and such. I modified the medic template and choose skills. Give it a look and make any suggestions. I have not played d6 in some time and not sure what maybe helpful for this campaign.

Your character looks good. You only spent five out of your seven die but I presume that's because you want to pick some advantages or special abilities.

As for advantages and special abilities:

Maybe the skill bonus special ability (+1 to all rolls of listed skills). Either with Ranged Combat: firearms, missile weapons, throwing or Steady hands: medicine, comp. interface repair, personal equip. repair

Maybe combined with Hypermovement (+2 to movement per turn per rank)

or Hardiness: +1 to damage resistance per rank

or Equipment for a bulletproof vest (+3D armor) or a Machine pistol (Damage: 4D+1 Ammo:32 Range:15/25/50)

they all cost 1 skill die so you can combine two of them as you want
