Garret's life is like something out of a serial drama. He is old, very old if you consider his time spent in stasis. Born on Earth in 2116 Garret was the son of a prostitute, who was murdered by her pimp.
Raised by a friend of his mother's he grew up on Government Basic assistance, struggling to make friends due to a genetic mutation, Aspergers Syndrome. He did not do well in school, and spent most of his days recovering from unavoidable altercations.
He won the lottery for trade school at the age of 9 and thus began the next stage of his tragic life. He had aptitude scores for extremely hazardous assignment. With almost no fear to speak of he was placed in the highest demand job in human space, ice mining.
Being that hyperdrives were cantankerous and "slow" in those days, stasis was used to preserve the humans during their transit to their new world. Caina named after the frozen Hell in Dante's Inferno was to be Garrett's.
Garrets prepubescent body flourished in Caina's gravity, after sufficient hormone therapy brought his circulatory system up to speed. To most Cainites, the gravity was as easy as earth before long. The effects of heavy gravity in terms of blood volume and bone density made them a hard, long lived people. Most Cainites lived to the age of two hundred before their brains succumbed to entropy.
In his late 20s another tragedy struck when a plague killed everyone on Caina but Garret and a Vendendrian. The two survived together for six years by building a signaling platform with which to signal their need for assistance. When the help had finally come Garret alone was alive to be rescued.
Sixty years passed in the blink of an eye to Garret. He still wasn't good at making friends. But his hardship gave him unique and valuable skills anywhere in the universe.
Garret quickly noticed that outside of Canias gravity well, everything was easy. He didn't tire, barely needed to rest, never became sick, and unless he was in microgravity healed faster than other humans. He didn't age anymore either, now in his nineties Garret passes for his early thirties.
Garret has made a living being one of the meanest enforcers or various law enforcement and criminal organizations. Everyone always needs good muscle, and Garret was about as indestructible and dangerous as muscle came. He met Eddie after braining one of Eddie's thugs within an inch of his life in a barroom brawl. Steve as the man was called and Garret are fast friends after and enjoy Strength training several times a week.
