I'm placing a map of a 3d map of Hommlet below. The map will be frequently updated with new numerical keys as buildings or locations are explored, as well as a brief description of the location, its NPCs, and other information of interest.

You enter the Welcome Wench to find yourself in the common room of the inn.

This large place is bright and cheerful. It contains several rough-hewn tables and chairs, boards, and benches. Natural tree trunk pillars support the ceiling overhead, all dark with smoke and age. A motley group of people is here.

Nearly a dozen patrons sit about, drinking and eating; quite a few considering it's getting late in the afternoon, well after lunch should be over but a while before dinner is usually eaten. Some of the occupants pause to look you over for a moment as you step inside from the weather. Others seem wholly absorbed in their private conversations.
Maybe half a dozen barmaids, servers, and stable grooms bustle about and seem to be taking quiet orders from a man standing behind the bar, who is presumably the innkeeper. The man is tall, around fifty years in age, and has a bit of size to him and appears to have enjoyed a few good years of eating and drinking well, but his hands are large large and meaty and his arms are strong looking. He nods politely as you look around the room. "We meet in an inn, as they say, travelers! Please, make yourselves welcome! Warm yourselves and get dry by the fire if you like; a barmaid will be with you in a moment."
The prices of food and drink are posted on the wall behind him, and you notice that the prices seem to run a bit higher than usual.

Sister Alice nods her thanks to the barman and takes a place by the fire. When the barmaid comes round she orders a plain dinner and small beer.

I'll be heading to the church after my meal to offer my tithe, she says to those of her companions that join her by the hearth.

Selvam is ready to take load off as the plate gets that way. He heads over to the center'ish most table and sits. He calls over for a pitcher of heavy bear and mugs.

Coulson, still sore and weary from his wounds, clamps over to the fire with Sister Alice. "Mightn’ I sit wi’ you Sister? A warm spot by a fire will ‘elp me sore bones" he says, and orders an elaborate breakfast and mug of ale. "‘Twas an ‘ard fight tha’, an’ this chance o’ sittin an’ eatin’ a hearty meal will ‘elp gain us our strength back, even if I’ is a bit pricey"

Kelric was sitting alone in the corner of the Inn eating his stew and drinking a horn of ale when he sees the travelers enter the room. It looks like they have seen some action entering town and he wonders what has happened. Thinking to himself, These darn bandits keep scaring the animals away, making it hard to hunt.

He gets up from his seat and approaches the travelers. It looks like you have seen some trouble on the way into town. These bandits have been making it hard to hunt with all the lurking in the woods. He pauses, looking around at the group. Forgive me, my name is Kelric, and I am a hunter in these parts. I provide the game to this inn, and the hides to the local tanner. He pauses for another second and then says Can you tell me what happened? Which road were you on?

Looking around at the newcomer, Coulson raises his ale in welcome "Twernt no bandits that waylaid is friend, we ran inter some friendly Gnolls on the road from Verbobonc. Luckily we, an’ by we I mean the rest o’ the party, took a care of ‘em. We ‘sposed to be deliv’rin our waggon to the blacksmith, bu’ we is all new ‘ere. Any idea where about a we can find ‘im?"

Pleased to meet you, a blessing in Cuthbert's name. I am Sister Alice, and we come here from Verbobonc delivering supplies to the blacksmith.

Sister Alice rises from her seat at the fire to greet the newcomer properly.

We did encounter some gnolls on the road, nothing too difficult.
Oct 13, 2020 6:37 pm
Coulson gives a snort of a laugh at Sister Alices remark about the Gnolls not being difficult "Easy fer you ter say lass, I don’ ‘member you laid up on the wagon"
Oct 13, 2020 6:39 pm
Angel steps up to the table carrying a mug of ale that he had apparently acquired from the bar. "Ah, the village welcome wagon heh? I'm Angel by name only. We had heard there were bandits around. Can you tell us anything about them?"
Oct 13, 2020 6:40 pm
A lucky blow on their part to be sure. Your bravery in battle is not to be overlooked Master Dwarf.

Alice raises her cup in a brief salute to Coulson.

As Kelric listens to the group tell of the battle with the gnolls, he shakes his horn of ale to the point that some spills on the floor. Gnolls! He mutters to himself, but not as silently as he would have liked.

Responding to the Dwarf's inquiry, he motions towards the door. The smith is just across the road, i've not dealt with him before, but i've heard no complaints either.

Kelric takes a seat as he listens to Angle ask about the bandits. The bandits have been plaguing the village for a while now. From what I understand, they've previously tended to avoid Hommlet directly, preferring to waylay passerby along the roads, and they're suspected of stealing livestock occasionally from farms closer to town, though nobody has seen them to say with any certainty beyond speculation. Kelric pauses to look at the group for thier reaction before finishing his ale and motioning the barkeep for another. More recently they have begun to get more bold, interacting with townsfolk occasionally. I've not seen it, but I've heard they bear a mark of a black dog somewhere on their person, though whether this is a tattoo, a patch or insignia on an article of clothing, or some other accoutrement is up for debate still.

Quiet Selvam, Those Gnolls will bother no one now. It is well we have done a favor for Hommlet. Perhaps it will favor us with the blacksmith soon. He nods to Angel, It is a fine brew.

Sister Alice finishes her meal and then heads to the church to give her tithe. She offers ten percent of her coin (60gp) and asks the local priest if there is anything he needs done.
Oct 15, 2020 3:53 am
Selvam says after finishing up his meal, I will see what this jeweler/money changer we passed coming about all these coins I have.
Oct 15, 2020 6:36 pm
When the word moneychanger is mentioned Angel turns up his nose. "No, it's not the food or the company. I just never wanted to have anything to do with moneychangers. They're no better than thieves. Better to see if we can rent a strongbox from the Innkeeper." Angel gets up and goes to seek out the Innkeeper and ask about rooms and a strongbox.

OOC:
Okay, I'd say it's about 4pm by the time you finish your meals. I have Alice heading to the Church you passed to pay tithe. Angel is staying at the Inn and inquiring about a strongbox. Selvam is going to the money changer to enquire about banking his gold. The rest are relaxing at their tables, eating? Assuming that's correct, I'll post for each PC. For the sake of roleplaying and meta knowledge, I'm not going to do secret notes to each player for now. We can just assume PCs compared notes or filled in the others when they meet back up later. If this isn't correct, or someone is doing something different let me know and we'll retcon it.

It's about 4pm when Alice returns to the north edge of town and walks up to the church she passed as she arrived. The Church of St. Cuthbert is a newly built edifice standing two stories tall. Within no time at all she finds herself standing in the Audience Chamber. The room is makes up the southernmost corner of the building's ground floor. It's about 20ft x 20ft in size. There's a hard bench against the wall opposite a fireplace. Two comfortable-looking chairs huddle around the fireplace, and one corner of the rooms sits a table next to a staircase going down to a cellar below. A priest enters the room for a brief moment, long enough to introduce himself as Calmert. He begs you to forgive him as he has another matter to attend asks you to have a seat as you wait, gesturing to the hard bench along the wall. He also invites you to peruse the religious tracts and scrolls on the table in the corner if you like, and then gestures to the poorbox on the wall beside it before walking back out the door. After about fifteen minutes he returns to the room. He;s eyes quickly cast over at the poorbox before he stops in the center of the room and turns to face Alice. I apologize for the wait. How many I be of service today?

Selvam
It's shortly after 4pm when Selvam returns up the road to find the money changer they party passed earlier on the way in. He can see alice walking to the church ahead, and arrives at a sturdy new building with a sign posted out front.

Quote:
The sign displays three yellow balls; this must be the moneychanger's. A guard in chain mail stands by the door, wearing a sword and cradling a light crossbow in his arms, with a quarrel ready. Two large dogs are sniffing in your direction.
As Selvam passes the guard and his dogs and enter, he is greeted by a man by the proprietor, a man named Nira Melubb. "Welcome, welcome! What may I do for you my friend?"

Angel
Angel walks to the bar where the large man is pouring tankards while a serving wench waits. As the girl walks away with the tankards, the innkeeper turns and wipes his bar with a rag and say to Angel, "Another ale, traveler?"
