Prologue 1.2: Target Acquired

Apr 6, 2016 4:21 pm
Irvanovich says:
Toshi: You've started to run out of roof, so you take to the streets, keeping to the shadows and doing your best to keep the halfling in sight. At one point, you actually lose him...and then you hear the high pitched scream of a frightened child, not far off. Rounding the corner, you see Perrin standing between some women and children and 4 kobolds, with brilliant green, blue, white, and red scales. The white advances on the lone halfling, who draws and throws two daggers at the creature, only to have them deflected off its armor and shield. A fifth kobold appears from the shadows to the side, with dark black scales, and drives a dagger deep into Perrin's back. He is badly wounded, but still standing.
This is where you were left in the previous thread. It is now your initiative. Have fun.

Five against one... not the best odds, though five against two isn't that great either. Kage hopes to even the odds by taking the kobolds unawares. He moves in as close as he can without being detected, fires a crossbow bolt at the black kobold, and tries to melt back into the shadows.
OOC:
-Using 1 Hero Point (+5) to offset the effect of shooting into melee (-4).
-Spending 1 Ki point for an additional attack (and applying a Hero Point to that as well).
-Target of the second attack is Black if he's still up, White if he's not.

Rolls

Crossbow vs. black - (1d20+7)

(18) + 7 = 25

possible damage - (1d8+4)

(3) + 4 = 7

sneak attack? - (2d6)

(25) = 7

2nd crossbow attack - (1d20+7)

(5) + 7 = 12

possible damage - (1d8+4)

(4) + 4 = 8

sneak attack? - (2d6)

(55) = 10

confirming critical (1st attack) - (1d20+7)

(15) + 7 = 22

Hiding after attacking - (1d20+12)

(18) + 12 = 30

OOC:
So I don't know if I did all that correctly. Black is definitely engaged with Perrin (-4 penalty to shoot into melee) so I spent the Hero point to offset. I'm not sure if White is in melee or just approaching but I applied the same modifiers to him.

I don't know if I'm allowed to use more than 1 Hero Point or more than 1 Ki Point per round.
Apr 7, 2016 11:52 am
OOC:
Only one hero point per turn, and I think it's one ki per turn for additional attacks. Full response inbound once I get to the office.

Also, you roll to confirm a critical when the first attack roll is 19 or 20 before bonuses....so this instance wasn't exactly a crit, but that doesn't matter too much.

Toshi, you line up your shot, and just as the black kobold in the back is about to twist the dagger, you fire. The bolt lodges itself through kobold's eye, dropping him instantly.

Your training kicking in, you quickly load the second bolt and fire off a snap shot at the White, but it goes wide and you melt back into the shadows. The Green, Blue, and Red kobolds whip their heads around, searching for you, but to no avail. The White one advances on Perrin, who dodges a sword swing and scores a minor hit with a thrown dagger, drawing a line of blood across the creature's snout.

Begin next round.

OOC:
Ah, I mistakenly thought light crossbows scored crits on 18-20.

1 Hero Point per round, got it. So I've spent 1 Hero and 1 Ki, right?

Am I correct in rolling sneak attack damage for being hidden?

Will post my next action in a bit.

Yes, sneak attack for being hidden.

With Perrin holding his own against the White, Toshi starts methodically picking off the rest of the kobolds.
OOC:
Something I forgot to apply earlier: +2 to hit from total concealment?
Do I need to make a new Stealth check to hide each time after attacking?

Rolls

Crossbow vs Red - (1d20+8)

(7) + 8 = 15

(5) + 4 = 9

The red kobold you were aiming for falls dead to the ground, arcane energy sparking and fizzling around his hands.

The Green and Blue kobolds both start looking down the alley, furious that they can't see you. In a fit of rage, the green kobold opens his mouth wide and roars, acid streaming out and covering everything in the alley (Reflex for half damage).

Meanwhile, the Blue Kobold holds up a pendant from around his neck, very reminiscent of a holy symbol, and dark energy pours out from it and surrounds Perrin, the citizens he was protecting, and anyone else that isn't a kobold in that general area. (Will to resist.). Several of the citizens fall to the ground, unconscious or dying...Perrin is still on his feet, but he's in very rough shape as he takes a hit from the white kobold's long sword.
OOC:
I need both a Will and Reflex roll from you...you have a +2 circumstantial bonus to your reflex, due to being hidden, but the cone of the breath attack does hit in your general area.

Congratulations, you made them angry.

OOC:
Argh! I don't suppose I can retroactively spend a Hero Point on the WILL save?

Rolls

WILL save - (1d20)

(7) = 7

REF save (at +2) - (1d20+6)

(2) + 6 = 8

OOC:
'Fraid not.
The fact that this kobold can spit acid catches you fully by surprise, and you grimace in pain as your section of shadows is covered in the burning bile...then, you are physically assaulted by every negative emotion you've ever felt in your life as the cold energy from the Blue's held symbol washes over you. You take 5 acid damage and 4 negative energy damage.

Toshi splutters silently from the vile acid. As a cold dread grips his heart he recognizes spellcasting from the blue kobold. He takes careful aim, and fires.
OOC:
-Spending 1 Ki point for an additional attack.
-Target of the second attack is Blue if he's still up, Green if he's not.

You fire, reload, then fire again...quicker than the eye can see. With a solid grouping in the chest, the blue kobold falls to the ground...that cold energy dissipating into the evening air. Perrin falls to the ground after a vicious swipe from the White kobold's sword, and the Green kobold spots you as you move from one shadow to the next, screaming in rage as he raises his own crossbow and fires, the bolt slicing across your hip as it flies through the air. Take 2 damage.
OOC:
Also, something I've just noticed you're doing: Your Dexterity modifier isn't added to damage rolls for ranged attacks. For your crossbow and such, you just roll the 1d8 and that's it.

We'll roll with it from here, but just for your own knowledge :D

Rolls

Down to two foes, Toshi pounces. Like a black arrow the feline ninja streaks towards the White and tries to catch and break the kobold's blade in the claws of his tekko-kagi, and follows it up with a vicious swipe of his own sharp claws.
OOC:

-Oops, sorry 'bout the ranged damage mistakes!
-Sunder attempt with the iron claw. Unsure about modifiers so just rolling d20. Finesse and +2 to sunder but non-proficient.
-1 ki point for the claw attack.

Edit: double roll on the sunder attempt was unintentional - must've double-tapped my phone. :-)

Sunder attempt - (1d20)

(7) = 7

Claw attack, damage - (1d20+6, 1d6)

1d20+6 : (20) + 6 = 26

1d6 : (5) = 5

confirming crit - (1d20)

(4) = 4

You run in, swiping at the White's blade with your tekko-kagi and his face with your claws. You manage to connect with the claws, but not the tekko-kagi...he grunts as you slash deep into his snout, then launches two rapid fire attacks as he parries the tekko-kagi. You dodge the first attack, but he quickly reverses and drives his blade deep into your shoulder...right before another crossbow bolt slams into your back. You fall to the ground, your vision darkening...and the last things you hear are the screams of the remaining villagers, and the thought that crosses your mind before it all goes black is how similar those screams are to your sister's mewling, oh so long ago...
OOC:
You are officially unconscious, at 0 HP, as you take the last of your HP in damage this round. You are not dead, and you have a chance to get back into the prologue if the other PC's (specifically Dahlia or Hegy) happen to find you.

Otherwise, you're on standby until the end of the Prologue. Holy crap. Well done. You just took out 3 of these guys yourself, with some EXCELLENT RP to go along with it.

You do not have permission to post in this thread.
