D&D 5e Campaign with a New DM?

I'm new to PBP, but I've been thinking about trying to be a DM for a little while now and thought this might be a good way to get my feet wet. Would anyone (who's willing to be patient with a new DM) be interested in doing a campaign of Princes of the Apocalypse or Out of the Abyss?

Fair warning, both adventures are a little sandbox-y and will probably have some kinks as I'm still figuring out the play-by-post system and DM-ing. I'm shooting for maybe 3-5 players. Anyone's welcome, as long as you're friendly and interested in sticking it out for the long haul (I'd like to do the whole campaign from level 1 to 15).

I would be interested in playing. What books would I need to play or what else would you need from me?

Great! All you need is the D&D 5e player's handbook (or the basic rules online). No other resources are needed.

Hey, I'm interested! I actually got Abyss and only slimmed it. The group I'm DMing in real life aren't finished their LMoP still, but are gonna play that next. Would love to be a player before them. Also I'm very patient. :)

I'm always up for more 5e. Would other official WotC material be allowed?

@Valcos So would you prefer Out of the Abyss so you can play it before DMing it? I'm good with either one, so if everyone else is down to play Out of the Abyss, then we'll go ahead with that one. Or would you rather play Princes of the Apocalypse so you can do something different?

@CosmicKeyring I'm good with anything from the Player's Handbook or the Elemental Evil Player's Companion because that's what I have, but if there's something else you want to use, just let me know!

Yeah, I'd be down to play Out of the Abyss over Princes of the Apocalypse. Im good with anything you'd like to run though :)

Also, I'm kind of interested in running a homebrewed summoner or necromancer or something, depending on the group dynamic.

I'm a little hesitant about entirely homebrewed stuff just because I'm new, but if there's something you want to play, just let me know and we can figure it out.

I'm considering using some of the character options from the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide or Wizards' Unearthed Arcana articles, though I would understand if you'd say no to either.

@CosmicKeyring I'm good with the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, as long as you don't mind typing out (or pointing me towards some reference for it) the abilities for whatever you're using just because I don't have it for a reference. For Unearthed Arcana, it probably depends on what you want to use from it. Most likely, I'll probably be okay with it, just let me know what you're thinking. I'll set up the forum soon, so we can talk about it over there too.

I was thinking of playing either a Swashbuckler rogue(SCAG) or an Awakened Order Mystic(UA).

By my count you got four players in less than a day, nice going!

Now you said you would take "3-5 players" *checks on fingers to make sure the math is correct*, so you could take one more, right?

@CosmicKeyring I think I'd prefer the swashbuckler over the Awakened Order Mystic, if that's okay with you. I think the mystics are too much for me right now haha. If your heart's set on it though, I am easily swayed...

@Cerris214 Sorry! I want to keep the number limited for the Out of the Abyss campaign because there's so many NPCs, but if you're interested (and enough other people want in), then I think I can be swayed to start a Princes of the Apocalypse campaign too. I mean I have the book just lying around anyway...
