School of Magic: Scanning (2 Points)

Scanners are not magicians in the traditional sense, but instead of gestures and incarnations they focus their magic with the power of their mind - due to this mental focus a Scanner may only take a single action in combat unless they have have taken Concentration (see below). Rather than being a Lore test Scanning is a contested Conviction test.

The basic abilities of a Scanner are to read surface thoughts, implant a single word suggestion in someone's mind, or cause D6 mental fatigue at the cost of 1 Willpower per attempt even if not successful. An unwary target may miss an initial attempt at a Scan, but further pushes will not go unnoticed.

New Traits

Concentration 1 Point (1 Willpower)

Some Scanners have learned to be focused enough that they can use their abilities while performing other actions and do not have to suffer the single action penalty for using their powers in combat.

Mind Scan 2 Points (2 Willpower)

The Scanner may make a contested Conviction roll to try and find the answer to a single question - if successful they must receive an honest answer although that need not be embellished with further information. On a critical roll the Scanner may either ask a second question or push for any pertinent information that their target may have not filled in from the initial question.

Implant Command 2 Points (2 Willpower)

On a successful contested Conviction roll the Scanner can implant a command in their targets mind that will either happen immediately or under designated conditions- this command may not run contary to the morals of the target who will not remember carrying out the action. On a critical roll the command may run against the morals of the target although they will recall being given the instructions afterwards. A target may not be given multiple commands less they suffer mental trauma and pass out.

Cronenberg'd 2 Points (2 Willpower)

Direct line of sight required - this is a Scanners most potent attack , yet the most risky as well; a successful contested Conviction roll causes D6 Endurance and Willpower damage, however if the target gets a better success then then the Scanner (success / failure or critical success / success, ) then the damage may be turned back upon the attacker.

If a Cronenberg reduces both Endurance and Willpower to zero then the targets head will explode in a gruesome and untidy manner!
