don’t forget Elmo will be at the back of the queue
OOC:
Oh gahl-durnit!... Why am I so bad at remembering this?
Quote:
I assume that the elapsed time from when Gilly speaks to when the adder makes it's unsuccessful attack is a surprise round. Angel would have reached the door by the end of that period.
OOC:
I'm good with this. You technically said a couple of days ago that you were going to keep your distance while Gilly grieved, so I think it's reasonable that as soon as she walked into the room and was speaking to the "bundles" Angel might have wanted to see what's going on. I'll update the token on the map.

@everyone: Also I know we have one player in the woods for the weekend, one player in Joshua Tree, and one player traveling for doctors' appointments, so I think we may move things a bit slower for everyone for the next couple days, if that's alright.
If someone does get a chance to post this weekend, that's great, but if things slow down for the next couple days because people are doing stuff in their personal lives, we can pick it up on Monday. I'm going to hold ff NPC-ing any of your characters this weekend or I might wind up running more than half the party. At that point I might as well just bust out my Four Against Darkness books.

Killing one character to get two more into the game can only work out... eventually, right? :D
Gilly yelps, and dodges out of the way of the strike! She slashes out at the snake instinctively to defend herself, and then heeds Angel’s advice and makes space for a shot! She moves back beside wherever Angel will be!
OOC:
Please direct the snakes attack towards Gilly. I don’t want anyone else’s character to die for my mistake. I suspected that we might miss out on our new companions if Gilly didn’t have a cry down this side. I didnt consider a snake attack.

OOC:
Oh sorry, my bad. I forgot to click "Approve". You should be good to go now.
Gilly stashes at the snake opening a deep cut running the length of the animal's flank, then retreats back towards Angel.

In response the snake gives chase making a wide circuit of the room before darting in at Gilly from the southwest and making another bite at the halfling. The crossover strike hits her hard in the inside of her left forearm with a resounding smack and as the serpent recoils again two ugly holes have been stabbed in flesh. She immediately feels an excruciating burn as the snake's venom craws up her arteries, making its way towards her heart.
OOC:
Gilly may take an action as usual on her next turn, but she will also have to make a Saving Throw vs. Death/Poison on that turn. For 1st Level Halflings she needs to roll an "8" or better (wow, I didn't realize Halflings were as hardy as dwarves in B/X... The's some hope still...)
As the snake recoils for another strike, Angel drives an arrow through it's throat. The snake thrashes in pain for a moment then gets itself in a coil, an arrow sticking crossways through its snake... neck?
OOC:
Round 1 continues! Turn order is as follows:
1. Gilly (7)
2. Giant Snake (4)
3. Angel (3)
-->4. Eltrezar (1)
5. 2. Elmo (6, 2-handed)

Eltrezar can hear the commotion from the Grand Hall, but he's not going to make it close enough this turn on 40' of movement. If he runs at a full sprint he could get 80' to X23, and from there he would have a shot if he throws a dagger over Gilly's shoulder (at probably a -2 penalty).

Rolls

Giant Snake Attack roll, Damage roll - (1d20, 1d3)

1d20 : (19) = 19

1d3 : (3) = 3

Jan 17, 2021 6:44 pm
Hearing the abnormally loud hiss echo through the courtyard, Eltrezar charges towards the sound. He had already lost two companions today, and he was especially fond of the Halfling who was likely in danger. His wizened lungs burned as he sprinted for the first time in ages, hoping he was not too late.
OOC:
Eltrezar will spend his turn running (double movement if possible) towards the combat. I trust that the DM using Roll20 have a more accurate idea of where I can end up.
Jan 17, 2021 7:03 pm
Eltrezar rushes into the hallway and sees a huge serpent coiled before Gilly who is bleeding badly from her forearm. From behind him he hears Elmo rush into the hallway. He gives a gasp seeing Gilly's bite and shouts, "Little one, get back! Everyone retreat behind me! Fire at it if you must, but retreat behind me and let it deal with my axe, if it advances!"
OOC:
Round 1 ends; Round 2 begins! Turn order is as follows:
-->1. Gilly (8)
2. Eltrezar (5)
3. Angel, Giant Snake (2)
4. Elmo (8, 2-handed)

Remider: Gilly can make a move and action per usual, but she needs to make a Saving Throw vs Death/Poison ("8") as well.
She is currently at 4HP.

Gilly let’s out a painful scream as the snake sinks it’s fangs into her arm. She thinks about running, but sees Angel beside her, resolute and firing shots into the beast! And more have come from behind to help. Gilly is no coward, she’s an adventurer! Steeling herself, and gritting her teeth, she slashed out, and raises her shield prepared for an attack.
OOC:
Boy I hope we can kill this thing before it kills me!

Rolls

Attack - (1d20+1)

(16) + 1 = 17

Damage - (1d6+1)

(5) + 1 = 6

Death/Poison - (1d20)

(16) = 16

Dagger drawn, Eltrezar steps right behind Gilly to get line of sight on the serpent. A grunt is all the party hears before he throws the blade, hoping to end this before it gets worse. After all, the Halfling's veins were likely coursing with venom at this point. Urgency dictated they end the conflict quickly. Unfortunately, the sprinting left him far more winded than anticipated, and his aim is affected by the gasping for air.

Ignoring Elmo's heeds Gilly stands her ground and slashes at the snake again, a sever cut across the perpindicular of its length just about Angel's arrow. The slash opens and Gilly gets the briefest glance at the esophagus running through it. she then is forced to focus on the venom running up her arm. It runs up her arm and into the center of her chest, but seems to stop there, but Gilly seems weakened and has to force herself to sand on her feet...

Eltrezar steps behind her and throws a dagger and hears the familiar clatter of the blade against the wall.

Angel draws another arrow and fires with his bow. The projectile strikes the serpent in the head and it hits the floor. Rises up again, and crashes to the floor again. The snake uncoils from it's striking posture and unravels. Its length continues to squirm and slither, going nowhere, but the arrow through its head is enough evidence it's dead.

OOC:
Gilly is down to 1HP. The snake is dead. Two barely moving bundles squirm on the floor of the room.

Giant Snake venom damage - (1d3)

(3) = 3

The wizard takes a quick glance around the room while rushing to his short friend's side. Upon reaching her, he yells back to Elmo to check the cocoons (he hasn't had time to determine that they're rope) before kneeling down to see if his knowledge is of any use in poisoning. "What have you done now, little one? We were supposed to head back to town, not get eaten by serpents!"

Gilly feels nauseous almost immediately after the snake acts out it’s death flop. Holding her stomach, she stumbles a pace, and empties her breakfast on the floor. She rubs her mouth with her tunic sleeve and weakly responds:

"Heard... something..."

She smiled weakly at Eltrezar. "Time... to... go?"

Hearing a dull, muffled sound of battle, shortly after it felt like he had been moved, the barbarian, tightly bound, in darkness and feeling his mouth bound and gagged, tries to wriggle free again.
"it’s useless......try again......no moving.....try again..." is almost a mantra running through his mind. "Have to meet my end standing, weapon in hand, not trussed like a pig fattened for slaughter" his inner voice growls at him, yet again, as the impotence and helplessness settle in again
