Knowing better than to go too far alone this time, Gilly will look back over her shoulder, and see Angel approach. She beckons him to the door quickly, pressing a finger to her lips.

Once she joins him, she nods her head, and twists the door handle open, and pushes the door in, while standing to the side as much as possible, for fear of anything that might jump out.

If the coast is clear and no bats or other creatures emerge, Gilly will poke her head out and take a peek into the room!
Jan 26, 2021 2:42 am
In the mean time Angel aims his bow at the doorway ready to fire if anything leaps out at them and will follow Gilly into the room should she enter but keeping a couple paces behind her.

Finding nothing in the bat room, Mal trots over to the door Gilly is about to open and stacks up in the hallway ready to breach.
Jan 30, 2021 5:28 pm
Gilly shoves the door open a,d takes in a pile of old furniture reduced to broken rubble. This room was once a conference chamber, but is now empty. Its dirt and wreckage show no signs of any recent occupants, though a couple of small rats are seen scurrying away. There is a dust covered writing desk on the north side of the room and an old wall case stands on the south side, it's contents missing save for a couple of cobweb filled shelves.

Mal does a thorough search of the room, starting with the desk.
Jan 30, 2021 6:30 pm
Mal uses a turn to check the 10'x10' area around the desk, which proves to be mostly empty. It's covered with a thick layer of dust disturbed by the scurrying footprints of an occasional rat walking over its surface looking for food or nesting materials to take back to its home. Cobwebs cover the desk, a couple pieces of blank parchment which crumble like ash when the cleric picks them up, and a small small inkpot, it's contents long ago dried up.

Leaving the batcav.....bat room, and the irritable old spell slinging demon, sorry, wizard, Loken comes up behind the rest of the group. He just stands there, watching
Jan 30, 2021 7:16 pm
Angel makes a rather loud, grumpy sound. "Well if there is any treasure in this place, it's not in this room. Is there any place we haven't been yet?"
Jan 30, 2021 7:52 pm
"We'll be wanting to check the walls and furniture in this place as well. These old fortresses were often built with tricky stonework, secret passages for the lords to come and go by."

Mal checks behind the desk and shelves in this room, pulling them out a bit and looking for any building tricks or passages.

"Maybe we should all check, in case one of us misses something."

Having already given the desk a thorough search, she inspects the wall shelf. It's covered in more cobwebs and dust. A few rusty and tarnished candle holder set here still, though they appear to serve more of a tuilitarian purpose rather than be made of any valuable materials for decoration. A couple of books set on the bottom shelf, but like the parchment on the desk, the pages and brittle with age and fall apart as soon as they're touched, not to mention they have been partially eaten by rats using the pages to build nests somewhere.

She's about to give up on the wall shelf as just more useless junk when she notices with he keen dwarven eyes, that the top of the shelf isn't flush with the wall like the bottom one is. Inspecting further, she notices that above the wall shelf are small holes that look like they might have been used for brackets of some sort but the stone has crumbled at some point. As she reaches behind the shelf
and pulls it away from the wall, she finds a long slender object, and reaching in she drags it out to discover a very fine longsword was wedged behind the splintered wall case, probably having fallen behind it at some point.

Hrmph! "It would seem that we have discovered all the secrets this hallway had tried to hide. You newcomers have a true thirst for exploration, so perhaps we could investigate the adjacent hallway. Several rooms there, and we were unable to thoroughly explore any. And please keep an eye and careful hand out for any arcane scrolls. If the previous owners were as crafty as you say, Dwarf, it is likely they had some secrets written on parchment as well."

Eltrezar begins walking to the hallway to the north, but moves slowly. After all, it was quite unwise for a frail man to take the lead. Let the barbarian walk into a trap. In the north, men like that were a copper per dozen.

"Ah-ha!" Mal exclaims as she pulls the blade from it's dusty tomb behind the shelf.

"I'm tellin' ya, these old castles are FULL of secrets! We should search the rooms you have already checked but in more detail. The old master might have had a secret wine cellar..."

She looks around at the group and holds out the sword to any who would claim it.

"Blade like this is against my order, Loken you look like the only fellow here who might get some use out of it, but I'd hand it off to our rescuers first out of appreciation."

Once resolved, Mal moves eagerly back out of the hallway and up toward the great room. It's the first time she has left the hallway in days and she is eager to see the rest of her temporary home. Looking toward the greatroom, Mal makes her way in and looks around at the scattered bedrolls and realizes it must have been the bandits lair.

"Just a moment, let me check the master suite. If I was gonna put a secret wine cellar somewhere if put it in my bedroom."

Loken watches the miserable, dusty old codger move off - "He is old, if he sets off a trap, we won’t be losing any one important. Or strong. Or untainted by devils magic" he thinks to himself
Jan 31, 2021 6:51 pm
"Aye, you do have the nose for treasure. But try not to take too long, I still hope to return to town today. The bandits we questioned earlier mentioned frightful noises at night, and I do not believe we are fit to fight whatever may have caused them. After all," and Eltrezar glares at Loken, "it only took a few pox-ridden men to capture you and leave you to die."
OOC:
Eltrezar will hang out in the hallway and wait for Mal to finish her searching before heading to the unexplored hallway.

Angel is not well trained with the blade so will leave that for someone better suited. As he moves off he revisits the earlier locations where he left arrows trying to see what he can salvage including that one well crafted arrow he shot.

With Angel passing on the sword Mal hands it to Loken.

"Here ya go, maybe it's lucky!"

The Dwarf returns to searching the bandits quarters in the greatroom for construction tricks and secret doors...

Mal returns to the bandits' quarters and inspects the room more closely. It takes ten minutes to give a 10' x 10' areas a thorough search. Is there a specific area Mal is checking?

While Mal inspects the quarters, Eltrezar moves to the hallway and waits, while Angel passes the wizard and makes his way down to the Giant Lizard room to try and recover his arrow. The arrow is there and he can see that the finely crafted fletching on the shaft is miraculously still as exquisite as it was previously. It should probably fly as true as the remaining +1 arrow he has left in his quiver.

Taking the sword from Mal, Loken gives a grunt of thanks as he looks at it longingly. An extra blade is always a boon. At Eltrezars barbed comment, Loken gives a mean smile "Such a wonderous sorcerer, to be a feared of some night sounds....." he sneers at him, casting a wary eye about nonetheless.
