"It looks like a boarding craft," Dotty says watching her sensors, "small fast, there should be more of them and a mother ship." She tweaks the resolution of her scans, "There's a debris cloud where it came from, I wonder if they're trapped in system. OH! You hit it! Good shot!"

Adonis easily evades the shots fired by the enemy ship and brings the Sycorax II back on course.
The ships are now in short range to each other and the enemy is not slowing down. Maybe it tries to board your ship. Maybe it wants to involve the Sycorax II in a dogfight. Or it has other plans that are not obvious now.
Round three of combat begins!

Since the shields haven't been a help so far I will try again. What are the options again for them since we are at short range are they able to get behind or to the side of us yet?Rolls

Yes they could try to go to the sides. Behind you is possible but unlikely as it would require a very good pilotFeb 8, 2021 5:00 am

Derek puts the shields to the front, seeing how their pilot seems well able to outmaneuver the enemy ship.

Do we need more sensor rolls or not?OOC:
Just a few examples for things you could do with the sensors:-Scan the space around the ship for objects, possible covers or anomalies
-Try to find out any kind of ship ID
-Try to predict the next movement of the enemy ship
-Scan the enemy ship for damage and give Adonis guidance on where to aim
Sensor's may seem like a soft skill but clever use can turn the tide of the battle

It seems like Derek figured out how the ship manages the shield systems and after a bit of tinkering he successfully deploys the front shields.
Adonis executes a number of moves in a zig-zag pattern hard on the limit of the ships structural integrity. The ship groans under the unusual stresses but thats better than being hit.
For a short time he stops and fires at the enemy but his fingers slip from the fire button before he can fire a full volley. Maybe a few bullets will find there target...
Dotty meanwhile scans the enemy. It seems like Adonis blasted away the shielding of the thrusters making them less efficient. Hopefully the reduced maneuverability helps to hit the enemy
The ship fires another volley of shots, breaks away to the side and narrowly avoids Adonis' fire. But the shots from the enemy don't connect either.
It's difficult to say but apparantly it wanted to get to the starboard side of the Sycorax II but instead sent itself into a spiral. It stabilizes eventually but it stays in front of you.
It's hard to say if it wants to try this again without sufficient data. Maybe Dotty can provide some early warning to help Derek deploy the shields where neededRound 3 of space combat is complete. Round 4 is on!

So if I roll a 6 on any dice of my gunnery roll I can edit the text and roll another dice? I've never really used exploding dice before.Last edited February 9, 2021 11:45 pm

Only if it's on the wild die. This is the first die that appears on a roll.If it's a 1 you lose your highest die and the wild die.
If it's a 6 you can roll again. If you can keep rolling as long as you keep rolling sixes.
Examples:
4d6 - (4, 5, 1, 6)=16
Wild die is a 4 and the roll is unaffected
4d6 - (1, 5, 4, 6)=16
Wild die is a 1. You lose the value of the wild die and your highest dice bringing the total down to 9
4d6 - (6, 5, 1, 4)=16
Wild die is a 6. You can roll another d6 and add it to your total. If you roll a 6 again you can keep rolling until you roll something lower

"I don’t think that fancy dodge was intended," Dorothea says looking at her readouts. " I think you clipped his thrusters and when he tried to slide up against our starboard side he vented a lot of thrust out in a weird direction."
Dotty tries to get a better lock for the captain to assist in his own targeting.

@Viking1031 I hope you don't mind that I skipped you this time as Adonis annihilated the enemy with his wild die@Aldrusian I rolled the wild die for you in order to bring the battle to a conclusion
That's a nice example of how the wild die mechanic works. Your gunnery roll had a 1 as the wild die and therefore you only had a total of 9 but that was enough to hit the enemy who just rolled a 3 on his piloting roll.
Your damage roll however had a 6 as the wild die. Rolled the wild die and we got another 6 which means we roll the wild die again.
Adonis easily avoids the shots. That's when Dotty notices a faint trail originating from a spot on the enemy ship.
This looks like reactor plasma. I think they've got a reactor leak. Shoot here! Dotty calls out to Adonis and sends him target coordinates.
Adonis wastes no time and fires a volley directly into the origin of the leak.
Full hit!
Suddenly instead of the ship you see a bright spot in the sky, momentarily brighter than the red dwarf star. Seems like Adonis hit the sweet spot of the reactor containment.
Derek's shield console lights up. Good thing he brought the shields up as the ship is hit by a shower of debris which are deflected away by them.
Great work everyone! You managed to destroy the enemy without even getting a scratch. You may act freely now.

With only the slightest smirk on his face Adonis resets the ships target to the original coordinates. When they come within range (if they are not already) he will hail the station.
Feb 12, 2021 3:24 am
Derek shuts down the shields and says, Looks like there is more here than we were told. I think we figured that but who knows what we will find as we go forward.
Feb 12, 2021 5:37 am
"Good reason to stay on those shields then. Get ready to bring them back up at a moment's notice." He turns to Dotty on sensors. "Can you see anything odd about the station or the world on the sensors that might seem a little off?"
