Hi everyone!

Thanks for joining our game! This thread is to introduce ourselves and figure out where to begin.

I'm Len, your humble Dungeon Master. I'm from Vancouver Canada, where I spend my days teaching Computer Science at a local high school. I'm also the proud father of twin 8 year old boys, and a life long gamer. I've been playing tabletop roleplaying games since the 1980s, but took a pretty long break from the hobby when I went off to university. When D&D Fifth Edition came out in 2014, I decided to get back in. I've been playing 5e ever since.

If you're new to Gamer's Plane, check out this awesome guide for new players by one of the most prolific members on the site, Naatkinson.

Also, if you don't own a D&D 5e Player's Handbook, you'll want to download a free copy of the Basic Rules, which gives you all the rules to play the game as well as the classic races (Dwarf, Elf, Hafling, Human) and classes (Cleric, Fighter, Rogue, Wizard) to build a character with. Don't worry, you don't have to read the whole thing, but you might like knowing where you can look things up.

So, what do you need to do?

1. Check out the safety tools thread, read up on our safety tools, and tell us what topics you want to handle with care in this game.
2. Check out the setting info. This is open and you can expand upon it if you wish.
3. Check out the character creation thread and start designing your character. Ask lots of questions and tell us how it's coming!
4. Practice rolling dice and posting in the Posting Practice thread!

Hi Len. Just about to head off to work (it's 8:20am in Australia) but I'll be back this evening and will have a look at these threads.

Welcome Astroloma. Sounds great, let me know if you have any questions! That's one of my favourite things about PbP - its asynchronous nature allows people from all matter of time zones to play together!

Hi Len - that was quick! I only applied a few minutes ago. Thanks for accepting me in the game. Look forward to starting when I have finished late shifts in a couple of days.

Hi Len and fellow players, I'm Tony from Adelaide, Australia. I'm currently working as an admin assistant part-time because I'm unsure what to do with my life at this point. I play other games: mostly scrabble and bridge at the moment but also a variety of tabletop strategy games (like Catan). I played one game of D&D in primary school (we died in the first session) and I enjoyed it but I wasn't allowed to pursue the hobby due to concerns about occult themes (this is, of course, no longer an issue for me). Some years later I tried playing in a game a friend was DMing but that group spent most of the session mucking around and making in-jokes and I was frustrated because the story didn't progress. That's all of my practical experience of the game but I've enjoyed listening to the DM's Block podcast and want to try again. I'm hoping that play-by-post means I can fit D&D into my life without it taking over.

Hey everyone! I am Peti from Budapest, Hungary. Seems like we are scattered across the globe which is cool indeed. Looking forward to the game and curious what everyone comes up with :))

Astroloma - I had a similar experience as a youth. I tricked my parents into letting me play sci-fi rpgs instead of D&D but now that I'm all grown up I'm all about that D&D! DMB is a great podcast. As a dad of twins, I find scheduling in person games impossible even before the pandemic, so play by post is my preferred way to play these days. Let me know how you like it as we go!

Hi everyone, I’m Callan, and I also live in the lovely Pacific Northwest (Oregon, US). I’m in my late 20’s and I work as a software developer (Really? A software developer who likes D&D?!! What a shock!!). My D&D experience mostly comes from playing 3.5 with my siblings back in the day. I’ve tried to get back into RPGs a couple times since then, but in-person groups tended to fall apart after a few sessions due to everyone’s time obligations. I have high hopes for PbP, though!

Callan, welcome! Yeah adulting sucks for scheduling fun. I'm excited to sneak some D&D into the pockets of time that we discover during our busy days! I dropped out of the software game a while back but still love programming from time to time.

Hi everyone. I'm Mike and live in England Northeast of London. I work for a civil service department out of hours, often at nights and weekends. I used to play a lot of D&D and Warhammer over 20 years ago with friends I was with at college. Then real life got in the way and I hadn't played for over twenty odd years until having a go at AD&D5e one afternoon last year. The DM in this game introduced me to PbP, which was a welcome diversion when the pandemic started. I look forward to playing with you all.
