OOC:
Okay the characters have been with this caravan for well over 2 months and have fought along side one another. During that time they became friends and decided to join forces and be an adventuring group. Note this covers any connections that were not made previous to the journey to Far Reach
The trip to Far Reach was long and fraught with peril. On more than one occasion those being employed to protect the caravan definitely earned their keep be it wages at journeys end or safer passage to Boareskyr Bridge. However the last leg of the journey proved to be the worst. For upon the constantly wind swept fields of the Sky Plateau the group was set upon by a large contingency of raiders. It took a massive effort upon the protectors behalf to finally repel them leaving many badly wounded and a few dead. Still the caravan was able to make the safety of Titan's Cleave. It was rumored that a Titan's Great Sword had created the break in the Sky Plateau and it appeared that the rumor may have well been true for it resembled a jagged gaping wound. Still from there forward the most dangerous element was just the occasional falling rock as the caravan descended down through Titan's Cleave into the valley of Far Reach.

As the caravan begins moving out of the Cleave and into the valley proper one could see the fabled Boareskyr Bridge in the distance and next it the rather ramshackle town that rests at its southern end. The warmth of the valley was quite noticeable compared to the colder air of the Sky Plateau and one could imagine that at times it might actually get uncomfortably warm at times. Still the weather in the valley seemed to be pleasant enough right now and the grassy hills the caravan travels through seems peaceful enough. One could easily tell when one was getting close to the village as even a few farmhouses had already sprung up indicating that some protection was given to the region immediately south of the village.

Upon arrival just short of the town but in sight of the large wooden sign labeled "Southbridge Village" the caravan pauses for inspection. A small contingency of archers flank the caravan on either side while four seasoned looking veterans walk the length of the caravan two a side and a fifth with a writing board speaks with the caravan master up front. Their surcoats over their chain mail denote them as followers of different deities. The one up front who is obviously a well-groomed Tiefling wears an equally fine surcoat of Kelemvor while one of the walkers who is obviously a Dragonborn wears the surcoat of Bahamut, next to him is a Human wearing the surcoat of Torm, on the otherside is an Elf wearing the surcoat of Correllon and along side him a Half-Elf wearing the surcoat of Lathander. While a mixed group of dieties even the most unknowledgable in religion would easily note that they are all dieties associated with law and order. Perhaps these were some of the actual seven Paladins that are rumored to be the anchor of government and safety here.
Feb 7, 2021 11:43 am
On their walk back up from the rear of the caravan the Dragonborn states in Humanish in a deep booming voice that is easily heard by all. "We here welcome you all to Southbridge Village. Please refrain from excessive rowdiness as that may get you a visit to our wonderful stockade. If any of you are planning to stay on please report to the garrison in the next few days as all long term residents are expected to actively help with the defenses of the village. Other than that we hope you enjoy your stay here in Southbridge Village."
OOC:
If any of you wish to explore the village let me know otherwise we can assume you have agreed to go to the garrison straight away upon arrival to hopefully be the first from this caravan so you can get the best potential assignments or maybe word of someone looking for some adventurers to solve a problem for them.
Feb 7, 2021 7:30 pm
Amos thoughtfully takes in what sights he can see of Southbridge Village while the caravan is inspected. He makes a point to seek out those in charge of the caravan and thank them for the work and say his farewells. Living through a trip such as this has a person developing a bond with his travel companions and he truly wished them well in their next endeavors.

The bond he had made with his three closest companions was especially important to him. Many a companion had turned away from him after realizing the peril his "condition" put them in. In a world where surviving day to day could be trying, associating with someone who could not be relied upon was to put one's life at risk. For the time being, Ulgar, Karg, and Arjaak had seen him at his worst during the trip and still considered him a part of their group. For that, he was thankful to them.

Returning to these three companions, he gives them a brief, tired smile. "Arriving at one goal is the starting point to another, friends. I have called dirtier places home in my travels, I think. What do you say we visit this garrison the Dragonborn speaks of and be the first names considered for work? I also imagine someone there will have suggestions for lodgings for us."

The travel has had some wear on Ulfgar especially because of how little time Ulfgar has had to commune with nature, but he is glad to have meet Karg, Arjaak, and Amos. Ulfgar hopes that they will continue to get along well as they work together.

Before Ulfgar leaves the caravan, he will cast speak with animals as a ritual and make sure the pack animals are healthy and seek aid for them if it is needed.

Ulfgar responds "Good places to start and if that turns up dry for work then seeing what else needs doing in Southbridge might turn up things of a less adventurous nature. "
Feb 10, 2021 1:51 am
"Aye. The journey here was rugged, and checking in at that garrison does seem to be the best way to go. I want to learn about this place, and what better way to do so than through working and aiding its residents?"

Travelling with Amos, Ulfgar, and Arjaak, Karg has come to enjoy their company and wants to continue adventuring with them. The journey was exciting even though it was difficult. He knows he could use at least a short break from that long journey on the road, and exploring this new town sounds interesting. He wants to head to the garrison first and fulfil his duty, then explore the town and its surroundings later.

Having decided to head to the garrison the group makes their way towards the gate that leads into the village which it does not take them long to reach that seemingly ramshackle looking gate. Although, upon closer inspection one can obviously see that the gates and the wall are actually quite sturdy they just appear to be shoddy due to their non-uniform lengths and widths. Still the gates are not the first thing one notices as they get near as an odor wafts out to greet them first. The strong scent of animals, manure, cooking, campfire smoke, and earth all mix together creating a none civilized smell that while pungent is not necessarily unpleasant, especially for those who prefer outdoor living versus city living. The dirt packed streets are lined with make-shift board walks making it obvious that when the streets get wet they might not be easily navigable. The semi-sea of kaleidoscopic tents seem to make up the bulk of the interior accompanied by the din of the marketplace that they represent. Off in the distance rising above these tents like majestic wooden towers stand five wooden structures the signs hanging from them, due to their shape as they are too far away to make out clearly, indicating that they were Inns. The fact that these flat roofed structures actually stand taller than the walls lends to the sense that perhaps they are even used as towers when needed. The road stretches out in front of them as well as going off to the right and there is a well worn path off to the left that seems to lead to one of the Inns. There is also an Inn to their right, another further down and to their left, and yet another even further down and to their left, the last appears to be across the center of the central marketplace but also to their right. Several guards stand just inside the gate holding halberds and then of course the various vendors and customers of the marketplace are milling about near by. Off in the distance banked by the two inns that are towards their right stands a seemingly majestic Stone Fort. However there are no signs that say, this way to the garrison.
Feb 15, 2021 1:15 am
Amos approaches one of the halberd-wielding guards and bows deeply in greeting. "Excuse me. My friends and I are new here and mean to be heading to the garrison. Could you point us in a direction?"
Feb 15, 2021 1:54 am
Guard nods, "Yeah just take the road to the right it will take you straight there."

Amos nods acknowledgment for the assistance and then turns to his group. "And there you have it." He flashes that tired smile again before heading in the direction given by the guard.
Feb 16, 2021 12:05 am
"OK." Karg nods as our group heads down the road, "I think I am going to like this place."
Feb 16, 2021 12:21 am
As the group begins heading down the road Karg notices a fetching female Yroc watching him from the market place. When she sees Karg notice her she smiles warmly, something a non-Yroc might call a snarl.
Feb 16, 2021 1:00 pm
Amos would nod a polite greeting to the Yroc but otherwise continue on.
Feb 16, 2021 3:18 pm
OOC:
oops I realize my last post was too generic and I adjusted it - the female is eyeing Karg
Feb 16, 2021 4:53 pm
Karg smiles back. 'I think I might come to like this place more!' Karg thinks before stopping himself trying to decide if what he is thinking is within his oath. He then turns his head away and takes a deep breath to collect his thoughts.
Feb 16, 2021 7:05 pm
Noticing Karg's attention on the female, Amos slows down to come into step with Karg. Without looking directly at him, Amos says quietly to Karg, "Old boats can be restored, but youth and beauty cannot. Is your mind somewhere other than our current task? We could take our time reporting to the garrison? We have been on the road long and she is very pretty..." Amos does then look at Karg, with a questioning raised eyebrow.
Feb 17, 2021 1:47 am
"You make a good point. Why waste an opportunity? I think I will go talk to her at the very least. However, I will refrain from any rash decisions." Karg turns from the group and walks up to the Yroc. Karg says to her, "Good day madam. As I was walking by, your beauty caught my eye. My name is Karg. It is a pleasure to meet you."

OOC:
The lighting is bad in the pic ;) -- her skin is actually a shade of green
"I am Ootah Killer of Many, I too noticed you. You are new here, yes?" Karg notices that about her neck she wears the; 3 bones, triangle, and eye; symbol of Gruumsh the Yroc patron of Conquest, Storms, and Survival. Looking upon the symbol had drawn his eyes downward, as it rested just above here breast. "You like what you see? I like what I see."
Feb 17, 2021 6:09 am
With some force of will, Karg pulls his gaze back up to her face. "Yes to both questions. This is the first I have been to this town. You clearly are more familiar with it, you should show me around sometime. We should get to know each other better. I came here as protection for a caravan. If you don't mind, what brings you to this far-away place?"
Feb 17, 2021 2:58 pm
Amos will busy himself inspecting some nearby merchant tents. Since Karg mentioned only talking to the woman, he will not want to stray too far so that they can regroup and move to the garrison shortly.
Feb 17, 2021 4:47 pm
OOC:
Is Amos looking for anything in particular or just browsing to see what it what?
Feb 17, 2021 4:52 pm
"I not brought here, I always live here. Not this village but this area has always been home. We should bare fight soon, see if you measure up to your looks, as I assure you I measure up to mine."
OOC:
Bare Fight : A Yroc challenge to a contest of strength and combat prowess, no armor, no weapons in fact the two contestents are traditionally completely naked so that nothing can be hidden upon their person to give them an advantage as not all Yrocs are fully honorable -- think Greek Pankration

Again if it helps and you have followed Star Trek at all -- think Klingon society

The female, blue-tinged silver (osmium) dragonborn you all know as Arjaak walks up behind Karg oblivious to the ongoing situation. "Whew! I caught up to you before you made it to the garrison. That's good. I still can't believe someone wandered off with my bagpipes of all things. I'd understand if it were my money or something along those lines, but my bagpipes? Really? she says before sighing exasperatedly and rolling her eyes.

Dang thought I had already posted this weird
As Amos is perusing through some merchandise he spots an interesting piece of pottery as he picks it up to examine it one the images upon it shoots out at him turning into a vicious mouth of fangs and painfully bites into his face. While he recognizes the source and quickly recovers it did not prevent him from instinctually dropping the pottery and jerking backwards. As the pottery fell it struck the edge of the merchant's table and shattered into a myriad of pieces.
Feb 18, 2021 5:52 am
"Tis good, we learn much by bare fighting. Yes I go with you, would not want you sneak out of fight." She smiles playfully at Karg.
OOC:
Karg cannot tell whether she is stronger than him or not but she is about his height.

Arjaak giggles quietly a moment at Karg and the lady Yroq before moving away from them to help Amos or the merchant clean up the pottery. "Tsk, tsk, such a mess. Let me help gather the pieces." She will look them over briefly as she picks them up wondering if they were greased in some way or if there is anything odd about them other than being broken.
Feb 18, 2021 2:13 pm
Picking up the small pieces of fine pottery, not an easy task mind you, reveals that they were definitely not greased but something she does note is that they seem to have perhaps some form of Dragonic symbols on them. However, to even figure out what they had been could take hours of piecing enough of them together to reveal a full symbol, assuming she could find enough of the pieces as some of them were really small and could have gotten lost in the dirt.

However the merchant is obviously less than happy, "Useless garbage now, you broke it," he points at Amos, "you bought, that will be 10 dragons you owe me."
Feb 18, 2021 4:25 pm
After the mental attack, Amos takes a few moments to close his eyes and focus on a few deep breaths. I am so tired from the trip. I let my guard down...

When he opens his eyes, he has a forced composure about him. He stiffly looks down to see Arjaak, already attempting to clean up the mess he had just made. "I...thank you, Arjaak. I must be more tired than I thought to be fumbling so much."

Amos then turns his dark eyes to the merchant, still doing his best to quell the slowly dissipating cloud of fear in his mind. "I'm sorry, sir. I just arrived in town and have not had a chance to find work. I do not have that much coin on me and I understand the position that puts us in. Would you accept 5 dragons for the piece?"

"Hmm okay well 5 dragons better than no dragons," and holds out his had upon payment he then says, "Okay well you should get that", he points towards Amos's face, "looked at, you are bleeding."
Feb 18, 2021 8:46 pm
Amos raises a hand to his face as if not realizing until then that he had actually been wounded. He smears a bit of blood on his face as he does so. He retrieves the five coins from his jacket and hands them over quickly. "Thank you, sir." He will then kneel and help Arjaak clean up the rest of the debris.
OOC:
Sorry, I thought the attack was more of a mental scare thing. I didn't realize I actually got bit in the face. The source was my haunting though, correct? Did I take any damage to speak of?
Feb 18, 2021 10:28 pm
OOC:
The attack is normally only a mental scare and while there is a trace of blood there is no actual wound -- this is extremely peculiar as it has never manifested anything physical at all before.
Feb 18, 2021 10:38 pm
Noting the blood comment, Arjaak turns to Amos grasping her bagpipes as if she’s about to play something before seeing there is no wound and instead asking, "Shall we gather Karg and be on our way again?
Feb 19, 2021 6:26 am
"Don't worry about that," Karg says to Ootah, "Let's find the group."
Seeing Amos and Arjaak near one of the booths, he walks to them and asks, "Amos! Arjaak! Found something interesting? I would like to introduce you to Ootah, she will come with us to the garrison. We will bare fight after. Ootah, meet Arjaak and Amos." He gestures toward each as he says their name.
Feb 19, 2021 12:46 pm
Amos stands from collecting the broken pottery. "Nothing interesting. Let's go." The slight bit of cheeriness he had upon arriving in town is gone. He turns without saying anything more or even acknowledging Ootah and will head in the direction of the garrison.

"Haaa Finally I've found you!!!! Too eager to get a head start you forgot these small legs of mine!"
The gnome's face seems half joking, half serious, as he catches up to the group. As he sees the blood on Amos's face he adds
"I hope you did not already got in trouble?"
Feb 19, 2021 2:41 pm
Ootah follows Karg over to his friends gesturing a hand greeting to them as he introduces them. At Amos's actions she leans and says to Karg, "Your friend seems ill at ease, he not feeling well?"
Feb 19, 2021 8:05 pm
"Ahh, sorry we lost track of you, Belgar'ath. Greeting, Ootah, I am Ulfgar" Ulfgar says rejoining the conversation having taken the pause in making their way to the garrison as a chance to gain a feel for this new place.
Feb 20, 2021 12:49 am
Arjaak smiles and nods a greeting to Ootah before following along to the garrison.
Feb 20, 2021 6:45 am
Karg replies to Ootah, "Maybe. The trip was long." Turning to Belgar'ath, "Sorry. Glad you caught up."
Feb 21, 2021 4:25 pm
The group finally arrives at a bridge in perhaps the eastern most part of town. The bridge spans a deep chasm separating a fort from the main village and resides at the end of two of the roads out of three that exist within the village. The other road is the north-south road that seemed to be a nearly straight line between the north and south gates. Using these main packed dirt roads is pretty easy and there are board walks along either side to allow easier travel when the roads are not so dry as they are now. Further they can see that once you leave one these main roads the tents appear to be a haphazard maze of narrow walkways interspersed with small open areas where a tent once stood. Upon getting closer the group can see that the bridge, which from a distance looks rather crude and unstable, is in fact quite stable and probably capable of handling a pretty heavy load before even complaining. Just before the bridge though seems to be a guard check point as the group is halted from going any further, "Please state the nature of your business."
Feb 21, 2021 10:32 pm
"We thought it best to get our registration with the garrison done with before other business." Ulfgar replies to the guard.
Feb 21, 2021 10:36 pm
"Ah, so you are wanting to join the garrison, good. Well then you will need to check all your weapons with him," he points off to his right where a man sits at a small table with a book. "Then we search you to make sure you are not holding out. Then we check you and if everything checks out we escort you in. Fairly routine procedure."
OOC:
If anyone plans to hold out please denote so and what you are holding out otherwise this goes fairly smoothly and you can post what you do up to the "we check you" stage.
Feb 21, 2021 11:27 pm
Arjaak pulls out a dagger and small knife, proffering them easily before doing so as well with her very fine rapier with some trepidation. She then gestures to her bagpipes saying, "Some have told me these are weapons. Must I check them as well?"

"Nah," the scribe says to Arjaak, "that will be taken care of in a bit, you can keep your instrument."
OOC:
Note Arjaak does realize though that if they do not check the instrument that some clumsy guard is going to be checking it for hidden weapons.
Feb 22, 2021 12:27 am
Amos nods at the guard's instructions. "Caution is the parent of safety. I do believe you will treat our belongings with respect." He offers his daggers and shortbow to the guard at the table.
Feb 22, 2021 1:42 am
The scribe at the table answers Amos' comment with, "As is our charge."
Feb 22, 2021 1:52 am
Belgar hands over his short staff "Here take it, and careful with it. Its used for more than just walking!" As he is about to withdraw from the man at the table and turn around fetching something from one of his pouch. Putting a small knife, which looked more like a butter knife than anything else, next to his staff he adds "I almost forgot I had that thing on me... Barely ever used it".
He then wait with the other for the next instructions.

The scribe nods to Belgar's statement, "Do not be concerned, we take great care of all items checked here."
Feb 22, 2021 4:32 am
"Makes sense," Karg says as he hands over a flail and two javelins, "These are my weapons."
Feb 22, 2021 10:48 pm
Ulfgar hands over his scimitar and sling.
Feb 22, 2021 11:36 pm
OOC:
Since no one said so I am assuming no one is attempting to smuggling in a weapon -- not sure what was done with the bagpipes but to save wear and tear on the instrument I am going to assume they were checked in as a weapon and thus do not need to be searched for hidden weapons.
Once all the weapons are turned over and each person is respectfully checked for any hidden weapons another guard steps and says, "Left hand please," he demonstrates by holding out his left hand palm up. Upon compliance he places a small orb, about two inches in diameter, into the palm of your hand. Arjaak being first the orb glows a soft blue and the guards says, "Divine caster." Then another guard steps up to Arjaak holding out a short dark metal bracer, "Left wrist please."

Meanwhile the guard with the orb moves to Amos repeating his mantra when the orb is placed in Amos' hand it flashes a faint red, then a blue swirls in. The guard waits for the the colors to stabilize and soon the orb is a chaotically swirling sphere of faint red and blue that in turn gives off a faint purple glow. "Divine, Arcane caster." the guard finally says.
OOC:
Is anyone going to object to the bracers being placed on your left wrist? And what does Amos do, note he does not have to do anything just curious if he does?
Feb 23, 2021 11:49 am
Amos curiously watches the orb do its work. Upon the guard's announcement, he raises an eyebrow and addresses him. "Hmm. I can promise you I am not trying to pull one over on you, but you might want to have these things recalibrated. I have no such abilities."
Feb 23, 2021 3:10 pm
The guard looks at Amos and matter-of-factly states, "The orb is never wrong, perhaps you are simply unaware of your abilities."
Feb 23, 2021 5:46 pm
Arjaak graciously accepts the bracer though with an eyebrow raised. "Hmm and here I always considered myself an arcane caster, she says softly to herself before shrugging and moving along.
Feb 23, 2021 5:51 pm
OOC:
Note I consider Bards divine casters because they can cast healing spells which an Arcane caster does not usually do as the ramifications of attempting to do so are not conducive to being an arcane caster. So you most likely serve the patron of bards ;) although perhaps they just had not realized it yet since its simply a natural extension of who they are. Perhaps now they may wish to explore that a bit more
Feb 23, 2021 6:21 pm
Amos looks thoughtful for a moment before replying. "As long as such abilities will not be expected of me, I do not care what the orb says, I suppose." He almost seems to dismiss the matter but then turns back to the guard and asks quietly, "These orbs, what are they called?"

The guard seems a bit taken off guard by the question then looks over at their commander who replies, "We call them Revealing Orbs."
Feb 23, 2021 6:51 pm
Amos smiles and nods in gratitude. He will not resist should they try to place one of the bracers on him.
Feb 23, 2021 7:22 pm
Balgar stares at the bracelet intrigued "I'm not against your custom and policies but what are those supposed to do? I like to know what people put on me"
Feb 23, 2021 7:39 pm
The guard matter-of-factly replies, 'They restrict your ability to use magic while it is worn."
Feb 23, 2021 7:45 pm
Belgar looks at the bracelet with visible signs of disdain "Well I guess you really make sure no one is 'armed'..." He looks at the others who don't seem to bother that much "Fine, but lets do this quick"
Feb 24, 2021 8:16 pm
"A druid." Ulfgar adds in response to the orbs reading "and hopefully by the next time, we trust each other enough that such precautions are no longer needed, yes?" not entirely happy with the suppression of his connection to the natural world.
Feb 25, 2021 3:20 am
The guard responds to Ulfgar, "Just protocols every non-garrison member goes through the same thing, regardless of race or privilege."
OOC:
Sorry been contemplating a hidden issue, trying to figure out how I want to go forward with it should be moving the group along soon-ish

With the registering of each individuals magical affiliation and the snapping in place of those dark metal bracers the group experiences something they have not in a long time, if ever.

Arjaak, Karg, and Ulfgar feel a stark emptiness inside as they become completely disconnected from their source of magic and their patron and the world takes on a much grayer and uglier appearance.

Belgar'ath experiences something similar in that his connection to the Weave that flows through all things gets shutdown, and that bracer becomes an annoying irritant next to his skin. Like a thousand misquitoes all biting at once.

Amos on the other hand initial experiences a peace he has not known for a long time, however this quickly turns into gut wrenching pain that begins mildly but then begins to slowly intensify.

With everyone secured the guard says, "Okay, follow me," and begins walking towards the fort. The guard leads the group across the bridges expanse and the group is followed by two other guards. Below the bridge is just cliffs and dark water. On the opposite side is a wooden palisade with a gate that is about half the height of the Forts 30 foot walls that encloses the area directly in front of the gatehouse itself. The stark difference between the wood and the old but very solid looking stone is quite noticeable making the palisade seem even more inferior than it is. This little courtyard of sorts is filled with a handful of men, numerous small barrels holding ammo and even a small catapult. However perhaps the most noticeable things within the courtyard sit just inside the gate on either side, a pair of sturdy tierces (aka @40 gallon barrel) painted bright red.

The group passes through this little courtyard uneventfully only drawing some glances from curious guards. They then pass under the open exterior portcullis through then gatehouse and then under the interior portcullis. Those experienced in castle design could easily see the the murder holes and ceiling holes used to decimate any trapped units. The gatehouse opens into another courtyard that surrounds the 3 story fortified stone building that sits in the middle. If there were stables they were most likely around back because they could not be seen from here. Sitting on the steps of of this building is a old looking Gnome smoking a strange looking three-bowl pipe, he watches the group as they approach with seemingly casual interest but says nothing. The guard leads them up the short stairs and opens the stout door fairly easily and turns to check on the group.
Mar 1, 2021 7:58 pm
Amos closes his eyes immediately after the bracer clicks into place, his instinct to relish the inner tranquility. Then, perhaps amplified by the contrast of the momentary euphoria, the pain hits and his eyes shoot open. He takes a step back from the guard who had just placed the bracer on him and enters a fighting stance, believing the bracers to have been a trap. He quickly notices that although the others all wear strange looks, no one appears to be in any pain as he was. As he had trained himself most of his life, he turned his mind inward. He began counting his breath to calm his nerves and then sent his mind's focus to the pain itself. He utilized a form of meditation he had used many times in the past, where he delved into the sensation of pain and used it as his focus. In most cases of minor pain, this was often enough to erase the sensation of pain altogether. This pain seemed to barrel through his attempts at holding it and continued to intensify.

As they were led further in, Amos progressively showed more and more signs of strain as he wrestled with the pain. Perspiration ran down his face and the front of his undershirt was visibly soaked through. He notices none of the sights they pass.
Mar 1, 2021 8:45 pm
As the bracer closes on his wrist Belgar'ath starts to feels itchy.
But what was an intriguing sensation soon becomes an irritating feeling hard to ignore.
As they pass through the courtyard, he constantly try move the bracer around and scratch underneath it.
And even though he would like to take a closer look at the funny looking red barrels or the catapult or the palissade or fort stonework, he just wants to get this over with be out of there.
Looking at the others Belgar'ath find some comfort in the fact that some of his companions appeared more affected by than him.

"Hey Amos! Hang on. This is only a bad moment. We'll forget all about later around a good bottle of rhum... Or anything strong they got here"
Mar 1, 2021 10:22 pm
Amos nods in acknowledgement of Belgar'ath's comment though does not speak. He was not certain he could sound composed if he spoke right now, and he did not want to invite more questions. Only a moment... He hoped the gnome was right.
Mar 8, 2021 1:31 am
Registering that all are still present he enters letting the person behind him take the door. As the group passes through the door they step into a 20 foot wide hallway and once the two rear guards, have entered, the door is closed completely shutting out the exterior light as there are no windows within the hallway and so finely are the doors set not even a crack of light can be seen about them. Still the evenly spaced wall sconces provide ample light to the hallway but whose fires are noticed to give off no smoke which indicates that some sort of magic was at work here.

While there is a door to either side, the lead guard instead moves down the hallway turning left heading up some stairs. Past the stairs is another pair of double doors and off to the right a set of stairs going down. At the top of the stairs the guard again turns left and heads to the only door which is on his left and opens it indicating that the group should enter. Once they have passed through the door the guard closes it behind him.
Mar 8, 2021 1:31 am
Inside the room sitting at a desk is a Dwarf and standing beside him is an Elf. Their manner of dress, indicates they are also paladins and the dwarf speaks, "Greetings here to join the garrison?"
Mar 8, 2021 4:38 am
"Yes, but this better be fast, so I can get these things off, or I might change my mind." growls Karg. The bracers caused him to become woozy, disoriented, and not happy. Thinking they were harmless at first, he complied, but now he feels cut off from Dukagsh and a little betrayed. However he has noticed that Amos clearly has it worse than he does, so he was bearing it silently until now. "You should at least take them off of Amos. He looks like he might need medical attention if this goes on much longer! I really don't see why these were necessary..."
Mar 8, 2021 5:47 am
"Well they are standard protocol for anyone not part of the garrison who wishes to enter the garrison, we do have enemies and magic can be very difficult to thwart if allowed in unchecked. The process is fairly simply though if you wish to move things along quickly Weimin will simply administer the oath," he gestures to the Elf, "and the bracer comes right off. If your friend truly needs medical attention than Weimin or I will gladly attend to him, however we have never had anyone experience more than discomfort so this is extremely unusual."
Mar 8, 2021 5:50 am
As Kustaa is finishing his explanation Weimin moves over to the other desk and turns a wooden pedestal sitting beside around to face the group and then pulls out an orb. "Please step up and take this orb in your left hand and recite this words written here, if you cannot read I can recite them for you and you can just repeat them."
OOC:
I hereby enter into this oath willingly and of my own volition.
For as long as I carry the mark of the Garrison of Bridgefort I
will do my best to protect Bridgefort, Southbridge Village and
its law-abiding citizens from harm of any sort. So be it thus forth
Mar 8, 2021 3:33 pm
Normally, Amos might have given more thought to entering this sort of magical contract. In these circumstances though, he is the first to stumble forth and grabs the orb from Weiman. He recites the oath in broken fragments, taking a few deep breaths at odd intervals to steady himself.

As if the process had taken the last of his energy, upon saying "So be it...thus forth" through gritted teeth, Amos slumps to his hands and knees. The orb rolls out of his hand and into Weiman's foot. He raises a shaking arm to present the bracer. "Please..."
Mar 8, 2021 7:47 pm
Upon speaking the last words the bracer pops open but the pain does not immediately subside. Weimin reaches a hand down and touches Amos shoulder while retrieving the now non-functioning bracer. As he does this pain relieving warmth flows from his hand into Amos' body and he helps Amos return to his feet, seeming to be much stronger than he appears. "This is very odd, are you cursed some how?" he asks Amos.

After Amos responds and denotes he is okay, Weimin retrieves the orb and readies himself for the next person, "Next."

Mar 8, 2021 8:24 pm
Belgar'ath steps forward, grabs the orb and starts to recite the oath.
He was not a fan of oaths but he could see they sometimes had their uses.
This one was inline with his interests and he really meant to do his best to help the people of this region.
As for whether his best was enough for them or not... Well it was not his problem.
Mar 8, 2021 11:52 pm
"No, I'm not cursed, but those damned bracers must be!" Amos says gruffly. He allows Weimin to help him stand. He quickly gains control over his anger. No one is as angry as he who is wrong. I need to just let it go before they further suspect something.

"Thank you. For the...relief." He steps back to allow his companions to be rid of the bracers as well.
OOC:
Don't know if it's necessary but there's a just-in-case Deception roll for Amos' bluff.

Deception - (1d20+1)

(17) + 1 = 18

Mar 8, 2021 11:58 pm
"You are welcome, and I will have these checked to make sure they are not malfunctioning." whether the Elf believed Amos' ruse or not was not clear but he did not pursue it either and just proceeded to swearing in Belgar'ath.

Once the bracer popped open the infernal itching quit and the feeling of the Weave once more flowed through Belgar'ath

Rolls

Secret Roll

Mar 11, 2021 2:30 pm
As the bracers fell to the ground the annoying itching sensation left Belgar'ath. With a relieved sigh he rubbed his wrist as if to make sure they were still properly working. "Haaa that feels good to be rid of those things!". After those words Belgar recites a few strange words and a spectral hand appear in front of him. The hand goes up to his hair and starts 'placing' them. "Well now that formalities have been taken care of what exactly do you expect of us"
Mar 12, 2021 8:30 pm
Seeing the others get their bracers off, Karg steps up. He reads the oath carefully; he does not want to agree to something he will later regret. However, as he was already prepared to protect the people, he felt the oath was very reasonable, and would not ask much more of him than he already would strive to do regardless. He recites the oath solemnly, and in anticipation of the bracers' removal.
Mar 12, 2021 10:01 pm
Once the oaths have been taken and the bracers removed and returned the Dwarf speaks up, "Yes with the basic formality taken care of and we are assured you mean no ill we are more than happy to discuss business with you. As for what we expect from you, nothing more than we expect from ourselves or any other member of the village and that is to pitch in and help while still doing what it is you do. Now if you can express perhaps what you would prefer to do or your skill set then we can ascertain what to assign you that is more appropriate for you."
Mar 13, 2021 6:10 am
OOC:
This is for each individual character, right? Not what the party as a whole would like to be assigned to?
Mar 13, 2021 6:46 am
OOC:
Well it can be taken individually or as a group -- but the premise was you all came here to work as a group but I am always open to let players do their own thing
Mar 13, 2021 11:02 am
"Well, we apparently work well together in a battle. We encountered many raiders as we saw our caravan safely here. I suppose if you have any tasks for those hardened by battle, we are the group for that. On a lighter note, I have been called a great chef." Amos tries to flash a smile but it falters in his exhaustion.
Mar 16, 2021 1:15 pm
"Bah! those bandits were not half as competent as they thought they were. But on a more serious note it is true we have had our share of battle and handled it well. Perhaps something to get to know the region better would be good as well? If we are to help the folks here, it would be better to know what to expect"
Mar 16, 2021 11:22 pm
"Yes, getting to know the land sounds like fine idea though if there is need of a healer, I have both skills and spells that could be of use."
Mar 18, 2021 7:39 pm
"Well very good then you are allowed a few days if you like to get acclimated to the village or you can get started right away the choice is yours. The issue I would have you look into is not of pressing concern but we would like it investigated thoroughly. So would you like a few days, or would you rather get started right away and get acclimated as you go?"
Mar 19, 2021 1:54 pm
Let's ear it! It will be better to have a goal instead of just wandering around aimlessly. Despite his serious tone Belgar is in fact quite excited at the persepactive of discovering this region and its secret.
Mar 19, 2021 3:57 pm
"I'm ready to go whenever. The sooner we know about the issue, the more we can help."
Mar 20, 2021 8:46 pm
"It seems we are all pretty eager to get to work. Let's hear what you have for us then." Though he speaks about being eager, Amos looks anything but.
Mar 22, 2021 5:16 am
The Dwarf nods, "Very well then, Weimin that thing you have been concerned about might be something they can cut their teeth on."
Mar 22, 2021 5:27 am
The Elf nods and walks over to his desk where he opens up a fairly large book and then flips through a few pages before taking a moment to read something then says, "Okay we have a potential situation that we would like you to look into. We have had numerous reports of vandalism and raiding of the few farms south of town, now while none of these reports are consistent unto themselves upon compiling them all together there does appear to be enough to suggest that there might be more to it. As such we would like you to look into this and either determine if it is just mere unfortunate happenstance or if there is something going on that is more deliberate." He glances up and looks at the group, "Sound acceptable and if yes, any questions?"
Mar 22, 2021 4:14 pm
"Sounds like just the kind of work I was hoping to find. Which of the farmers would be most helpful in providing us with information?"
Mar 22, 2021 4:42 pm
"Well that we cannot say exactly as we have not spoken to these farmers directly and the reports we received do not get into that level of detail."
Mar 22, 2021 6:09 pm
"Hmm. So we are going in blind." Amos looks worried for a moment before dismissing it. "Well, nothing for it." He turns to his companions. "I think I would rather not spoil myself with a comfortable bed tonight and my bag is already packed. I'm all for leaving immediately if you lot are."
Mar 22, 2021 10:47 pm
Weimin comments to Amos' statement, "You might want to leave bright and early in the morning as the furthest farms from my understanding are a good days walk from here and that is just in one direction. Also keep in mind, you are going in to determine if there is an actual issue or if it is just all an unfortunate coincidence. So yeah if we had more information we would not need you to look into it since we would already know."
Mar 22, 2021 11:59 pm
Amos allows a small grin onto his lips. "A comfortable bed it is, then. Are lodgings provided or are we responsible for finding our own rooms? I require a personal room on the account of my snoring. No one will get a wink of sleep with me around and a tired man is a dead man out here, I think." He holds his hands out in a "what can you do" kind of way. It's a half-truth. No one would be able to sleep in the same room as him on account of his night terrors, but either way the personal room was required.
Mar 23, 2021 12:27 am
"Well you are welcome to make use of the barracks and the mess hall while on assignment or during recovery if needed, however, there are no personal rooms. In order to get a personal room you will need to go to one of the Inns which we do not cover the expense of. Still that seems like a detrimental aspect for field operations perhaps you might consider checking with Kezzel our resident alchemist. He has been known to cure... oddities that folks have or have acquired."
Mar 23, 2021 11:37 am
"Alright! Sound that we got ourselves a plan. Do you have place to recommend for us to stay until the morning."
Mar 23, 2021 12:41 pm
The Dwarf looks a bit confused and replies, "Well unless you absolutely need privacy I would suggest the barracks they are on the first floor, the first set of doors just after you enter. For privacy, well the various Inns cater to different preferences so best to check them out yourself and make your own decision."
Mar 23, 2021 1:56 pm
"I highly doubt this Kezzel can cure my condition, but perhaps I will seek him out. Thank you." Amos gives a shallow bow to Kustaa.

This was troubling. After paying for the broken pottery, he did not have much left in the way of funds. He would have to attempt to trade services for a room at an inn if he wanted to avoid questions about his condition.

Amos turns to his companions. "I will take Kustaa's advice and hunt down an inn. Will you lot be joining me or will you be staying at the barracks?"
Mar 25, 2021 2:13 pm
"I think I'll stay in the barracks tonight. It is good that we do not leave immediately because I need to barefight with ootah soon."
Mar 25, 2021 3:23 pm
Faedrith had stayed quiet, catching up with the group on their way through the town and sticking towards the back. She'd registered her weapons, worn the bracers, and taken her oath, same as them. "I'll be coming with," she says to Amos. "A tired man is a dead man, like you said, and I'd rather take every precaution I can."
Mar 25, 2021 10:06 pm
OOC:
Okay so it appears that Amos and Andy uh.... I mean Faedrith are heading to the Inns. Are the rest retiring to the Barracks or accompanying Amos and A... Faedrith ;)
Mar 26, 2021 2:39 pm
Belgar looks at Faedrith and adds "That's the spirit, besides barracks are bound to be boring". Turning to Amos he adds with a wink "Now lets get you that drink we talked about earlier and get a good night of sleep"
Mar 27, 2021 3:04 pm
"Well, have fun with that Karg." Amos gives Karg a wink. "We will meet at the gates in the morning."

He will join Belgar and Faedrith as they leave and search for an inn, looking out for something large enough that it might have a kitchen. He is hoping to find someplace he can perhaps help in the kitchen (cooking preferably but maybe washing dishes or whatever is needed) in exchange for a room or a discounted room. He has a single gold piece in his purse that he needs to stretch as far as he can.
Mar 27, 2021 5:55 pm
OOC:
Okay I believe I described the five Inns on your way in as they are literally towering buildings with the universal sign shaped to indicate an Inn -- leaving the garrison the closest Inn would be the Book Inn off to the left (south), and the Rock Inn off a ways to the right (north), the other 3 are on the other side of the village and from south to north are the Nag Inn, Tipsy Tankard, and Mamz Inn
Mar 29, 2021 2:34 pm
Faedrith doesn't imagine a difference between the inns, and will just follow Amos and Belgar to whichever inn they may choose. She takes in the surroundings that she wasn't able to focus on in her hurry to the barracks, noting the marketplace of tents and the shoddy-seeming craftsmanship of the permanent constructions.
Mar 29, 2021 3:27 pm
Amos leads his companions to the Book Inn and enters.
Mar 29, 2021 3:41 pm
Walking up the short stone pathway that leads from the main dirt road the group gets a closer look at this semi-pyramidal shaped tower. It was still much taller than it was wide but it noticeably narrowed as it went up and like the other inns its top was flat. From a distance it had look pretty much like the other inns which are seemingly large wooden structures. However up close one can see this is much more than just a normal wooden structure as it almost seems to be made of a single piece of dark colored wood that has been polished to a near glass-like finish. The amount of effort to have done this by hand would have been phenomenal giving the impression that more than hands were at work here. This then gets doubly reinforced as the group steps up into an exterior porch like foyer and are greeted by a by a mouth appearing upon the actual door to the establishment. "Greetings and welcome to the Bookend, please state the nature of your business."
Apr 1, 2021 3:22 pm
Amos is slightly startled by the mouth. "Ah...we are looking for lodgings for the night. I'm also looking for work for the evening myself. I just arrived in town and haven't the funds for a room but I am great in the kitchen if you will allow me to work for my bed"
Apr 1, 2021 3:56 pm
"I see," the lips purse up a bit before it continues, "then you should perhaps try one of the other Inns. We cater to a selective clientele in order to assure those clientele are not disturbed by the unknowledgeable. However, if you can demonstrate that you possess significant knowledge then perhaps arrangements can be made."
Apr 1, 2021 4:06 pm
Amos ponders the mouths words. His own thoughts go to the orbs used to determine his magical aptitude and the reading they gave of him. If this was a place of knowledge and academia, perhaps it was a place of answers about both the orbs and the unanswered questions he had carried with him since birth.

"I cannot speak for my companions, but I am more a seeker of specific knowledges than one who is knowledgeable. Though as they say, real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance, in which case I may be a genius. What demonstration do you require?"
Apr 1, 2021 6:26 pm
"Can you manifest magic or miracle or can you share information on some obscure topic that may prove of interest to someone. The latter would require obtaining a sponsor which, based on the information provided, might preclude you from staying here tonight."
Apr 2, 2021 9:53 pm
Faedrith approaches the door-mouth. "What exactly do you mean by 'obtaining a sponsor'? I am quite knowledgeable on certain topics, but you make it sound as though this process is a bit more trouble than just answering questions."
Apr 3, 2021 3:55 am
"A sponsor is simply a member of the Order that has interest in what it is you know but to ascertain that we have to communicate with a likely sponsor to see if they are willing to sponsor you and they will probably want to meet you first."
