No I misread the post and thought it was a new round.

Ah, ok.

Looks like ten on the battle map.
Indeed.

um, where do I find my chance to hit? My hit % is blank, so I'm guessing not that great.
Depends on the melee weapon, though it's usually AGL+Warrior. There should be a space on the character sheet to note weapons and hit%...

So, could you explain what it takes to actually accomplish something? What type of rolls mean success? I can’t even seem to stab something I am standing next to.

Could you make your character sheet public, so we can have a look? Click Characters->All Characters then on the line for Sorrack the Fluid click the book-shaped icon until it is red.

Ok, I believe I have it set to public now

Right, so melee would use Warrior (-20 and disadvantage because you're untrained) which is based on Strength. Therefore your skill is 25, you need to roll under a 25. But it's harder that your roll is you take the worse of the result of you swap the dice order. Rolling a 25 is the worse of 25 and 52, so 52.

Marksman had the same problem, obtained, but it's based on Agil which is 65. That means if you had a ranged weapon, you would hit on a 45 or less (again with Disadvantage).

Summary: you're not a combat character, but you'd do a lot better with a ranged weapon.

FS uses a fluid (no pun intended) system of Attribute + Skill level for action rolls.

Basically, when performing an action, pick an attribute + skill combination which will make sense for it. For certain actions, it won't be much of a choice, which is especially true for combat action (requiring the Attribute + Skill combination listed in the weapon's description on pp.59-76).

An attribute of unskilled is really bad, because on top of the -20, you also have disadvantaged (with your tens and units potentially being switched if the result would be worse for you).

Edit: Simultaneous posts
Qralloq is nearly right. Melee can be based off STR, but once again, it depends on the weapons. For example, your whip definitely uses AGL. Similar thing for ranged: most uses CRD, but a few weapons will use other attributes, you just need to read your weapons's description.

That makes more sense, thank you. I’ll take that into consideration on my build. What about thrown knives? Agility with a -20?

The weapon's description on p.68 shows us that knives can be thrown with a CRD+Marksman skill check. Both your AGL and CRD are at 65. No need to give yourself a -20 penalty on top of any other you may accrue during the round...

I don't think I have the marksmanship skill. Does that change the calculations?
Jul 3, 2021 6:54 pm
Same as if you don't have the Warrior skill to attack in melee: -20 and disadvantaged...

Surgeon Nero obviously has marksmanship skill and bad nasty mean dice.
Jul 4, 2021 12:07 am
Yeah, so far the RNG really seem to hate you guys... Nero and Mesec in particular... XD
Jul 4, 2021 1:16 am
The Machine hates Nero? Can't think why that may be...
Jul 4, 2021 1:19 am
Probably cause it is laser edged on his mind might be a good reason for the Machine to somehow hate Nero.

Antiproduct says:
"You think we should just go left, or go for that door at the far end? Could be risky... " Mesec said, checking nervously around them and at his autorifle clip.
Just a reminder, that door on the left was the door you heard all that scratching come from, and judging by the noises, there are more crabs behind that door than you fought here...

Accidents happen™? On a serious note though, thanks for the reminder. I won't pretend I said it to see if the others remember. xD
(please someone point this out so I may cry out "onwards then comrades!")

Sorrack roll is reminding me that I've had an idea lately to fix those specializations which I'm really not a fan of. Instead of rolling your specialization at +10 above your score, and everything else at -10 below your score (never rolling your skill at the actual score you levelled it to), how about I grant re-rolls per "sessions" to one's area of expertise? Let's say 1 for a broad specialization, and 2 for a regular one? Feels like if players are saving their re-rolls for an important check, it would fit well with the game's cinematic feel. Of course a re-roll would be a free action and would not further multi-action penalties (well, not anymore than the regular failed roll would have). And of course, you cannot "bank" unused re-rolls to use in a later session, you either use them or lose them.

I think that's the best solution I've came up with so far and I wanted to run it by you guys first.
