I was sorely tempted by the excellent King_Moloch's pitch two years ago, and rapped my own knuckles for not volunteering at the time. He was an amazing GM: his world-building in the Aberrant campaign he ran was top notch, and those adventure(s) we played evocative and well-run. I hope he finds his way back to us.
In the spirit of King_Moloch, I volunteer as (GM) tribute. I've read over the Quickstart material. I think the system is simple enough and will work well with the peculiarities of pbp - primarily, for me that means straightforward, consistent mmechanic, and no back and forth negotiating over dice rolls.
The
free (PWYW) Quickstart is a preview of their Kickstarter to be launched April 6, 2021. As such the third edition, full rules are not yet available. However, the QS does have a lot of material. Just not character creation - instead, 4 pregens have been provided.
RED SKY CHARTERS
Anything, anywhere, anytime—Red Sky Charters’ unofficial motto
RSC is a small charter and transport service crewed by the PCs. It’s founder—the uncle of one of the pregenerated characters in this primer—was lost at sea along with the company’s new, but uninsured, aircraft. Now in deep financial straits, and despite their limited experience, the characters are trying to keep the company afloat—literally. To make ends meet, they’re forced to take most any job that comes along; each more dubious than the last.
THE FOLLOWING PLAYABLE CHARACTERS ARE FOUND AT THE END OF THE QUICKSTART.
[ +- ] Drew
DREW LATIMER: Like Carl, Drew was Earthborn, and dreamed of getting off planet. They joined the GEO Peacekeepers, trained as a pilot, and took an extended enlistment in exchange for a posting to a colony world. When their time was up, rather than go back to the polluted dust ball, they mustered out on Poseidon, and joined up with Red Sky as the company’s new hopper pilot. Four years after Carl’s death, Drew remains a dedicated, if inexperienced, member of the crew, putting everything they have into the company for the sake of the family. What they lack in knowledge and confidence, they make up for in sheer pigheadedness. Etta believes this stubborn streak must be the greater part of the Latimer gene pool.
[ +- ] Fishboy
"FISHBOY": Drew found Fish washed up on Red Sky’s beach one morning with a serious bullet wound and no memories. Even after Etta nursed the stranger back to health, he couldn’t remember anything of his past. Nor were there public records or image archives indicating who he might be. A medical scan revealing Fish’s surgically altered brain structure and an unidentifiable cranial implant hint at his mysterious past. With nothing better to do, Fish started working for RSC, and has since become a loyal member of the family. "Fishboy" was what Bethany called him when Drew pulled him off the beach; given a lack of anything more likely, the nickname sorta stuck.
[ +- ] Dancer
DANCER: Dancer is old for a dolphin, and she and Etta have been close friends since Etta’s youth. It’s Dancer and Bethany who are generally inseparable, however, sharing a bond even Etta doesn’t fully understand. Dancer is as much a member of the Red Sky pod as anyone. Even if she isn’t technically an employee, she often accompanies the crew on local jobs. Dancer has as many connections in the local cetacean community as Etta has among the Harmony natives, and these prove invaluable in gathering information about regional waters. Dancer is also a vision/singer in the Harmony congregation of the Church of the Whalesong Theogony. Though she might seem casual about her community role in the church, she actually takes it very seriously
[ +- ] Maggie
MARGARET "MAGGIE" MERRIWEATHER: Maggie is a Silva hybrid, an ex-Peacekeeper soldier, and currently a GEO Warden. She was Carl’s oldest friend on Poseidon, and they both used to tell the story of how they met in the outback, with each blaming the other for their ultimate survival. Maggie was a big help in the early days of RSC, and she still lends a hand when not out in the bush chasing poachers. When Carl went missing, Maggie joined the search teams and continued looking for months after the authorities gave up.
The game plot will involve a homebrew adventure involving sentient dolphin rescue.
I presume the original poster will play, which means that there are three openings for players. Regardless of ghosting players, the game will proceed to completion of the scenario.
My plan is to launch next week sometime at the earliest.
