Turana took a while to talk again as she was checking the wounds that the quintpods inflicted her and trying to ease the pain a little, they were not that bad, but they did still hurt, hopefully she wont get an infecton from that little monsters she though, , after that she went on ahead :

"Well , Ybreg's idea is definitely worth a shot. i mean trying something else like breaking it might even atractt more atention, in case they get too curious we can try to distract them with a glowglobe.. if blocking the light doesnt work i have a small prybar and hammer in my bag to try to either break or remove that thing out of its base, but maybe its just like plan b or c, the quints will more likely react to something that noisy

"Someone help me drape this synthsheet over this solar collector." When someone approaches to help, Y'breq will cover the solar panel with the sheet and note any effects.

Lyle helps Y’breq with the synthsheet.

The portal quietly powers down with no noise or other to do. You hold your breath a few moments and whoever watches reports from the edge of the lip than none of the quints in the broader cave seem to be teaching.

Y'breq looks over the craft. She's suddenly not sure that it's really in that bad of a shape. The outer panels have been pulled off, but not really damaged. The interior seems vandalized but it could all be cosmetic.

Emmett watches with satisfaction. "Good, glad to see it'll shut off. Let's make sure it'll come back on again and we're in business. We could probably tie somethin' round one of those tubes pumpin' into the gate and rip it loose from the other side."

While the others fiddle with the synth sheet, he walks into the craft to see if there's something he could use as a rope that would be strong enough to cut off the energy flow to the gate.

Well I have 50 meters of rope in my bag.. but maybe you can find something better here.

For Emmett's search, he'll see what Y'breq saw, that the shuttle has been partially disassembled but isn't actually damaged all that much. In fact, as the first person to search the shuttle *, he determines that it has power, high tech systems that even without the energy fed to it from the panel are glowing from some kind of stored energy.

The portal powered down when the solar panel was covered. What you take from that is on you, heh.

Correct, the portal is basically the back of the ship. You would need to make some kind of test to determine whether the ship can fully power the portal on its own.

I'll entertain any proposed tests to work out a solution.

"I wonder if cables work through the portal. We could tie some cables or rope to the synthsheet, walk through the portal, and pull the cables to draw the synthsheet over the solar collector while we're on the other side." Y'breq thinks for a moment. "That assumes the quintpods didn't intentionally power on the portal and won't remove the synthsheet hen they notice what has happened."

Emmett explains what's inside the shuttle to the others. "So, yeah. There's a part of me that wants to fiddle around with it to see what we could do, but I'd really like to not get stripped of all my skin by them things. I like my skin."

Emmett doesn't have any way of judging the power of the ship's thrust, although it does appear to operate that way.
