OOC:
Gonna go ahead and roll mine now so I don't hold up the flow.
Bors swings at the strange mobile heat mirages!

Rolls

Sword attack - (1d20+2)

(18) + 2 = 20

Sword damage - (1d8+2)

(7) + 2 = 9

Angel fires his bow at a shimmering shadow, but the arrow fails to hit anything substantial.
Meanwhile two unseen enemies fly at the group and attack. Gilly hears one buzz nearby and swipe at her face, as does Eltrezar, though neither of them hit their targets and they seem to flutter back again.
OOC:
Unless there's a specific reason an enemy would single out a specific PC, or the number of PC engaged in combat changes, Target Selection for this combat will be as follows:
1=Angel; 2=Gilly; 3=Eltrezar; 4=Maloria; 5=Bors; 6=Man-at-Arms

Bors on his part takes a moment and finds a disruption in the air nearby and slashes out with his sword. He feels the blade strike and a spray of blood hits his companions as something wet smacks the ground at the party's feet. Looking down they see the now visible and cleaved-in-half body of a 2-foot tall pixie, aged and quite large for her species, struggling to pull it's final agonal gasps of air into lungs now severed cleanly open, before falling still and dead.
Around you you hear enraged shrieking from the remaining invisible creatures at witnessing the death of one of their own, who by appearance may have been an elder amongst her kind. The buzzing of pixie wings becomes even more frantic, and another one attacks, this time going after Maloria, who hears a *CLANG* off her breastplate before the pixie, still invisible retreats.
OOC:
Round 1 continues! Turn order is as follows:
1. Maloria (7)
2. Angel, #2, #6 (5)

As much as she would prefer not to fight the fayfolk, Mal feels that she is committed at this point and must press the attack. She lashes out with hammer and shield at the invisible sprites, the act making her feel a bit ill.

"I'm sorry ya daft little buggers but ya came at us first!"

OOC:
Maloria isn't up right now; Gilly is. But somehow #4 made it onto the turn order twice as well and should only get to take their turn last this round after rolling a 1 for Initiative. So, I'm going to keep #4's failed attack roll for when it's actually their turn, and for roleplaying/storytelling purposes we can just say #4 dived in and got inconsequential swing on Maloria, who made an inconsequential retaliation back at it with her hammer.

Also, while we wait for Gilly's turn, let's get an Intelligence roll from Mal.

Gilly sends an arrow at the sound of some shrieking. She may not see them all that well, but she can hear just about fine! She lets it fly!

In the fray, Eltrezar tries to call out to his companions to lay down their arms. "Wait, my friends! Shaped like men, they can be reasoned with! Sheathe your..."

His words are cut off by one of the little shit's trying to stab him. Immediately, the dagger in his hand is flung at the next shimmering form to fly past his field of vision. Unfortunately, the speed at which these creatures flitted around kept him unbalanced, and his dagger flew off into the field. In the fray, the wizard hopes only to be able to find the blade again after the struggle ends.

Seeing how ineffective his throw was, he bolts out of the combat zone, hoping to stay alive long enough to take one of these creatures down.
OOC:
I was hoping to talk our way out of this, but we all went ham on these... things!

Heading out to some tulip festival for the weekend, and probably hitting up a lake. I'll be back Monday morning, hopefully without requiring a death save.

Gilly's arrow misses and two more pixies dart in to attack the party. One goes after Angel, but narrowly misses.
The other seems to go after Gilly, as a reaction to her attack but also misses.
Eltrezar takes a moment to plead for peace among all involved but at the first sign of aggression he heaves a dagger that sails into the tallgrass alongside the road.
The silent Man-at_Arms swings his sword at a shimmer which easily darts away, and the pixie Maloria has been struggling with ducks in and *CLANG*s off her armor again.
OOC:
Have fun, cowleyc!

Gilly fires an arrow and it comes almost to a dead halt mid air and falls to the ground, another pixie suddenly appearing, skewered on the end of the shaft. Bors swings his sword and feels the tip of it connect with a shimmering spot of air, and blood suddenly spatters the area around the party.
The rage exhibited in reaction to Gilly's killing of another of their own, furthered by Bors's grievous wounding of another increases, the sound both pathetic and unsettling at the same time, but the shimmering warping spots in the air around you retreat, well out of melee range, and one by one the pixies become visible and drop to the tallgrass around the party. Three of them remain unscathed while another, presumably the one Bors just struck, squats in the grass, an ugly wound opened up in it's abdomen.
In a language none in the party understand, the pixies holler and shout, tears filling their eyes and streaming down their tiny faces as they shake small fists and daggers at you.
After a moment they begin turning invisible again and you hear their wings again buzzing as they take flight. Two of them rush to their fallen companions and pick them up and flutter away to safety. Another buzzes once or twice more at the silent Man-at-Arms and retreats well out of range before the man can lash out with his long sword. You hear the sounds of their rapidly beating wings get quieter and quieter until the only sound is of your heavy breathing and a number of birds singing in the tallgrass.
OOC:
Success??? Unless you wish to give chase, a difficult task considering they're nearly impossible to see while they remain invisible, you have defeated the Pixies by way of retreat. While there is no treasure to be harvested from this encounter, all XP is awarded as if you had killed them.

Mal feels sick the her stomach at the sight of the tearful fairies and let's her hammer slump.

"They were the fae folk. Pixies I believe, and it is bad luck to hurt them."
Apr 19, 2021 12:12 am
Bors feels a little bad, but then remembers the pixies screeched at the party, hurting their ears. "Well now they know it is bad luck to attack Bors the Fighter and his trusty blade, Pixiepoker."
Apr 19, 2021 2:39 pm
With the enemy withdrawn, Eltrezar starts poking around the tall grass to find the discarded dagger. It is possible to hear his grumbling about stabbing first and talking second, when a mighty wizard should be able to use the magic of language to disarm his enemies and diffuse combat.

"Perhaps we should continue before any more innocents are struck down by Bors' blade." His words are harsh, but seem formed from frustration at the situation rather than an actual anger at the warrior.
Apr 19, 2021 9:15 pm
The wizard takes a moment to search the tallgrass and eventually finds the blade he threw. With the pixies seemingly gone, at least for the time being, the party mounts their animals and begin making their way to the moathouse ruins. By around 11 or 11:30 they arrive at their destination and stand staring at the damaged gate.
To the right of the road the remains of the giant toads lie, now starting to bloat with gasses despite the cool fall temperatures. A number of dead bandits lie at the gates as well, and appear to be undisturbed from when you last left them.

Ahrm! "Well, my companions, we still have much daylight, but also much to explore here. Bors of the Strong Stomach, see about cutting open those frogs. They nearly ate us not but a few days past, and I suspect they may have succeeded on those less prepared. No use letting possible treasure rot away with the beasts." The wizard stays towards the middle of the group, happy to let them take the brunt of any ambush or surprise that may arise. He squints at the sun, noting his estimation of the time and weighing the options before him. One hand lies on his jeweled dagger.
Apr 19, 2021 11:13 pm
Dear gods that smell is unholy! What on *insert campaign world name* happened here?" Bors covers his nose and mouth with a hand. "You want me to what? What possible treasure could be in a frog's belly?"

"Given that they nearly swallowed one of us yesterday, you might at least find some poor fella’s armor and weapons swimming around in there. Who knows what else!"
Apr 20, 2021 3:42 am
Mal shrugs her shoulders and helps with the dissection of the frogs. It wasn't the most glamorous way to start out but every coin recovered would help the cause of good.

"After this, we have a secret door and a stairwell leading down to choose from. Any preference?"
