Without a word, the Man-at-Arms rushes forward and stops at Maloria's side. Ignoring his own sword the man brings his torch down on the slime flesh and holds there for a moment, and Maloria sees it's gluey surface vibrate and boil at the fire's touch. The Man-at-Arms looks at Maloria's hammer and shakes his head back and forth at the dwarf.
OOC:
Round 1 continues! Turn order is as follows:
1. Gilly, Green Slime (6)
-->2. Maloria, Man-at-Arms (5)
3. Angel (4)
4. Eltrezar (3)
5. Bors (2)

OOC:
Actually, the Man-at-Arms has the torch. Eltrezar has a lantern. They swapped at the top of the stairs.

OOC:
whoops, reposting...
Mal catches the silent swordsman's meaning and drops her hammer and pack, quickly pulling a torch and her flints from the top. She sparks to life a new flame and brandishes it before the caustic monstrosity...
May 16, 2021 10:22 pm
With the poor lighting and the fact that any communication had was silent with the Man-at-Arms back to him, angel fails to notice the silent exchange regarding weapons and takes a five foot step forward and to the right, to get a better shot at the slime with his bow, occupying the space the Man-at-Arms just vacated. He draws back his bow string and fires. Unfortunately his shot flies wild clattering on the wall beyond the slime.

Upon seeing the use of fire being effective against this beast, and the lantern in his hands being useless (though it may be his skill in lantern-combat that is useless), Eltrezar does his best to provide adequate lighting for his fellow companions. The dagger in his hand would likely be useless against this creature, but he gives a single test throw to be sure.

Damage - (1d4)

Eltrezar throws his dagger, which hits and embeds itself in the slime's mass. Like the arrow Gilly fired, it seems to sit suspended in whatever fluid makes up the creature's slimy composition.
OOC:
Round 1 concludes with Bors's turn! Turn order is as follows:
1. Gilly, Green Slime (6)
2. Maloria, Man-at-Arms (5)
3. Angel (4)
4. Eltrezar (3)
--> 5. Bors (2)
May 17, 2021 9:17 am
Armed with only a shield and sword, Bors does what he does best, even if it will be less effective. He waits for a pseudopod to form, then attempts to sever it clean off.

Rolls

Sword attack - (1d20+2)

(13) + 2 = 15

Sword damage - (1d8+2)

(3) + 2 = 5

Bors sword strikes true and cuts deeply into the slime. The blade extracts coated in a fair amount of the sticky ooze than makes up the slime's entirety but the slime seems to be oblivious that it was sticken, or that a fair amount of its mass was robbed by the fighter's blade.

1. Angel (7)
2. Bors, Man-at-Arms (6)

Seeing Eltrezar's and Bors's attacks seem to do little damage at all, Angel notches another arrow. Only this time he uses his Action to nudge the Man-at-Arms and places the tip of his arrow in the torch's flame. It takes a bit of time for the arrow to catch fire, and Angel draws back the string on his bow to take a shot.
After the arrow is burning, the Man-at-Arms turn around at takes another swipe at the slime with the torch, but the attack misses as the Man-at-Arms seems hesitant to get too close to the creature.
OOC:
I'm going to rule that Angel will fire a flaming arrow at the slime, but actually getting an arrow to catch fire takes a bit longer than if it was soaked in oil or something flammable, so getting the arrow lit will take his full turn.

Round 2 continues with turn order as follows:
1. Angel (7)
-->2. Bors, Man-at-Arms (6)
3. Gilly, Maloria (5)
4. Eltrezar, Green Slime (2)

1d4 : (4) = 4

Bors sees Craig hesitate and make a half-hearted attempt with torch and fail miserably. Frustrated at the lack of results from his amazing sword and at Craig's terrible performance, he tries to think quickly. "It seems many of our weapons are ineffective. Wizard, don't you have any fire magic? I'll try to distract the slime." Bors retreats a few paces deeper into the room, trying to get the ooze to follow him and give his party time to come up with a plan. Or at worst, prevent the thing from blocking the entrance and separating him from the party.

Useless in this combat, Eltrezar shrugs and begins to step back.
OOC:
I ain't wasting my one spell for the day on something that's highly flammable. Also, this is a response to Bors rather than an actual combat turn.

With an exasperated gruntsigh, Gilly runs forward, snatching the torch from the hired hand as she does so, and then drives the flame into the jelly creature.
OOC:
Tell me if I can do that!

Lol I think with that roll you probably grabbed the flame end of the torch :P

Bors moves back five feet to open the area up for others a bit more, and Gilly snatches the torch from the Man-at-Arms hand and swings it but misses nearly as badly as their party's hired man did.
OOC:
Round 2 continues, but with Gilly now holding the torch a bit more light is illuminating the room before you. Turn order is as follows:
1. Angel (7)
2. Bors, Man-at-Arms (6)
3. Gilly, Maloria (5)
4. Eltrezar, Green Slime (2)

It should also be noted that Maloria has a torch lit now as well this round.

Without any other options (other than using his limited magical ability), Eltrezar holds out his lantern to allow Angel faster access to lighting his arrows.

OOC:
I have a bad feeling about the slime’s round...
May 19, 2021 8:04 pm
Eltrezar holds his turn and the slime attacks.
OOC:
There's four targets to for the slime to select from: 1=Bors, 2=Gilly, 3=Maloria, 4=Man-at-Arms.
Another set of pseudopods advance forth from the amorphous blob, this time reaching for the Man-at-Arms. Expecting one appendage the man is caught off guard by a second one darting forth from elsewhere, which grabs hold of his arm and immediately retracts dragging the man towards it. More extensions of lithe slime's body erupt forth and begin enveloping the hirelings arms, crawling crawling up and over his body. For the first time, the party hears the man give a vocal grunt of exertion, but finding himself unable to free himself from the slime's sticky grasp.
OOC:
Round 2 concludes, and Round 3 begins! Turn order is as follows:
1. Angel (6)
--> 2. Gilly, Bors (4)
3. Maloria, Man-at-Arms, Green Slime (2)
4. Eltrezar (0)
Seeing the Man-at-Arms in trouble, Angel forest his burning arrow at the slime. The projectile hits and the creature quivers again in response to the missile's flaming tip.
