OOC:
You were right on is all of your assumptions!
Originally Bors was going to throw the cloth over the slime and attempt to light that on fire, but on his way back with the material he had a new idea. He quickly withdraws his pitted sword and wraps it in the cloth, then uses Mal's torch to set it on fire. It may not be a literal sword of fire, but close enough!
OOC:
I'll roll damage as if it was a torch instead of a sword since I'm sure the cloth would blunt any cutting effect anyway.

Rolls

Sword/torch attack - (1d20+2)

(18) + 2 = 20

Fire damage - (1d4)

(4) = 4

"Good thinking Bors!"

Mal thrusts her torch at the blob again, having no other recourse than to burn the thing.

Rolls

Attack - (1d20+1)

(17) + 1 = 18

Damage - (1d4)

(2) = 2

OOC:
Oh wow, this was a very bad round to be a Green Slime already.
Gilly drags her torch against the slime's exterior surface, causing it's flesh to burn badly, as Bors hits its southwest facing side with his makeshift burning sword and Mal strikes it from the south. All three attacks do great damage to the slime which reacts in the same manner its predecessor did, by boiling, sizzling, and thrashing like an hen's egg on a hot pan, and the slime looks severely damaged and not long for the world.
OOC:
Round 2 continues with Eltrezar.
1. Gilly, Maloria (7)
--> 2. Eltrezar, Bors (3)
3. Angel, Man-at-Arms, Green Slime #2 (2)

Eltrezar cries out, "It's working! More fire!" as he sees the creature so quickly ravaged by the flames. Alas, his lantern is not a functional weapon.
OOC:
Just chillin like a villain until I have an enemy I can actually hit.

Having no viable means of attacking the slime Eltrezar holds on his turn, and Angel and the Man-at-Arms rush over with newly lit torches in to surround the slime, while the slime makes what may be it's final hope for nourishment.
OOC:
Green Slime Target Selection roll as follows: 1-2=Gilly, 3-4=Bors, 5-6=Maloria, 7-8=Man-at-Arms, 9-10=Angel.
The slime reaches out for Mal but fails to grab hold of her, and Angel's torch misses as well. But the Man-at-Arms draws his torch along the side of the slime as Gilly had and holds it there until the slime finally stops quivering and lays still.
OOC:
The Green Slime is dead. Victory again! You once again stand in a quiet room, most of which remains in darkness. A door has been revealed at F13 after Bors disturbed a pile of rubble fighting to free a flammable sack.
Those currently emitting light are Angel, Gilly, Eltrezar, Maloria, and the Master-at-Arms.

Mal retrieves her hammer and snuffs her torch to be used later. She takes three more torches from her pack and hands them to Bors, Angel and Eltrezar.

"Can't hurt to have them in case we run into more of that muck."

She examines the newly found door in the rubble and checks the area for any traps laid into the stonework, then examines the stability of the ceiling.

Maloria inspects the area around the stonework, including floors and ceiling. Her keen dwarven eyes see no anomalies or reasons for concern, and it appears that the piled up debris was intended to hide the door. The door itself is closed, and the lock on it looks new and well-oiled.

Fifteen feet or so to the south another pile of debris is stacked against the wall.

Relieved to be alive, Gilly scurries back up the stairs and into the courtyard. She rummages around for a moment, until she finds two swords of suitable length for herself and Bors. And another one spare for good measure, just in case. Then she descends the stairs again to see what the group is planning to do.
May 25, 2021 3:59 pm
Mal cautiously approaches the second pile of debris and prods at it with her hammer from as much of a distance as her stubby frame will allow. Should nothing jump out at her, Mal proceeds to search through the rubble for anything of use or value.

Trusting the Dwarf in this underground realm, Eltrezar looms behind Mal and provides any support she asks for. He holds the lantern high, and a drawn dagger low.

OOC:
Going through my notes, it looks like only the leader had a longsword (1d8) and a lance (1d6). Everyone else appears to have had shortswords and crossbows. So I'll assume she grabbed 1 longsword, and 2 short swords. Her encumbrance for the moment is 60'.
Gilly runs up to the courtyard and digs through the pile of weapons. Grabbing the items she needs she returns more slowly, encumbered with the additional weight of the steel in her arms.
Meanwhile, downstairs Maloria prods at the second pile of rubble, which seems untrapped, and like the other one, appears to be in effort to hide a door, whci like the other, is secured by a new, well-oiled lock. The wizard waits cautiously behind Mal in case there's trouble.
With a quiet padding of feet, Gilly returns with the swords in hand.

Gilly hands off the sword to Bors.

"A sword and two shields all in the one morning! I can’t wait to see what you get me in return!

Which door then?"
she says, as she tosses her old sword aside and takes a few practice swings with the new one!
May 26, 2021 12:10 am
"Did you grab a scabbard as well?" Bors looks in shock as Gilly casually tosses aside her old blade as if it was an apple core. "Does your sword mean so little to you? Don't you at least have a bonding ceremony to transfer the sword's essence into the new weapon?" Of course a sword is a companion, keeping its owner safe. If you must change to a new weapon you have to have the "essence transference" ceremony. That is just plain common sense. "You must at least thank your old blade for its service and give your new weapon a name."

"Well, I hadn’t really thought about it, to be honest! It was my mother’s old sword."

Gilly faces the sword and bows her head in some pantomime reverence.

"Okay done! I guess I was more concerned with my essence being transferred to the blobs!"
May 26, 2021 5:09 am
Hrmph! "It would seem the bandits were right to worry about the goings-on down here, as this door is well maintained! We should prepare for resistance behind. After all, for what other reason than criminality would one skulk around in the shadows in these ruins?"
May 26, 2021 1:48 pm
Bors shakes his head at Gilly's woefully lacking bonding ceremony. And her mother's sword no less! A family heirloom. But at least she tried, he supposed. He'd make sure to teach her the correct ceremony after they finished liberating this place of treasures.

"Eltrezar is right, these locks are well kept. Something more than slime lives down here."

Mal looks around for where Angel is skulling and waves him over.

"You have the look of a first class burglar, mind taking a whack at these locks?"

OOC:
There are two doors, right? Both equally inviting? If we spend a few minutes in indecision, Gilly will listen at both of them for noises!
OOC:
Well, nothing!

Gilly listened at each door a while, finally determining there's nothing of interest to be heard, and Angel steps forward with his thief's tools out, hoping to pick open the locks...

For a while he tries at the northernmost door, but after ten minutes the lock remains held fast. The thief then moves to the more southern door, and another ten minutes passes before Angel gives up un trying to pick the locks.
