It's really a nice way and it makes my job a bit easier as I can see who is doing exactly what and in which condition.

It's neat and concise, which I can totally get behind :D

OK it is neat and concise but being new to 5e I have questions lol
Can someone break down easily what exactly some bonus (actions I guess) are and give a few examples for all of the different categories please.
And are there other options? Make it for Dummies lol

Bonus: None
Move: None
Action: Taking aim

I use this site as a cheatsheet.

For bonus, it depends on your class, feats e.t.c

Rhys has the Crossbow Expert feat which means if he attacks with an one-handed weapon, he can use a bonus action to also attack with his hand crossbow.

If a spell specifies bonus action then it can be used as a bonus e.g the warlock's Hex spell.

That page was very helpful, I will be using as well from now on.

And I will be adding those to my list, now I need to find something similar for the pathfinder 1e game I am in... If anyone has any suggestions for PF please pass them on ).

DnD Beyond explains bonus actions like this.
Quote:

Various class features, spells, and other abilities let you take an additional action on your turn called a bonus action. The Cunning Action feature, for example, allows a rogue to take a bonus action. You can take a bonus action only when a special ability, spell, or other feature of the game states that you can do something as a bonus action. You otherwise don't have a bonus action to take.

You can take only one bonus action on your turn, so you must choose which bonus action to use when you have more than one available.

You choose when to take a bonus action during your turn, unless the bonus action's timing is specified, and anything that deprives you of your ability to take actions also prevents you from taking a bonus action.
I think the only common bonus action that doesn't (strictly) depend on class is a second attack if you wield two light melee weapons. Edit: oh yeah, and some spells!

OK can anyone recommend a good DND language site?
May 8, 2021 4:12 am
What are you looking for? A list of languages or a translator?

Translator

This is what I have saved. Not complete and maybe there are better alternatives, but here you go!

Thanks Queni

The cheat sheet that Queni posted already covers the usage of Actions, Bonus actions and reactions very well, so thanks for that ;)

As for languages: If you encounter the usage of a language that not everyone speaks, I'm gonna put the translation in a note that each character/player who understands that particular language can read. So you don't have to translate anything by yourself

Scrol, are we able to retrieve bolts after combat? Or do we need to do some rolling? Not sure about what to do in that situation.
May 9, 2021 12:31 am
Per the Guidelines if you have time to collect then you recover half (round down) the number you used
May 9, 2021 12:33 am
Thanks for the info!

Wasn't sure if I should roll for Bardic Inspiration - Rhys is the next target? Did it anyway. Ignore the roll if that's a misstep.
May 9, 2021 8:43 pm
Yeah, I did target Rhys with it. :D
Also, post coming soon, I usually don't go online often over the weekend.

Question: is it possible to cast a spell that uses bonus action as a normal action?
Edit: found the answer, nope. Gonna heal Annika next turn then, if we don't finish combat by then.

Good question. I had to look it up myself

Turns out no you can't trade bonus actions and normal actions.

(Posted the edit at about the same time, haha. Thanks anyway! I'm gonna think what to do now for a moment then...)

Not going to argue with the GM nor the Guidelines but I have to say that sounds so wonky that it makes next to no sense.

Okay personally I would have no trouble with someone using a Bonus Action as an Action since as they state conceptually a Bonus Action is supposed to be faster than a standard Action so if its faster than logically you should be able to use it during the longer Action time frame. I would have to hear a solid argument otherwise (beyond the lame - that's what the guidelines say) since so far there is no conceptual reason for it not being so. Kind of like that forever unexplained reason why Wizard's cannot cast healing spells. However, I am one of those folks that analyze Guidelines to see if they make sense rather than just always take them at face value. I mean designers are not omnipotent they make mistakes just like everyone else and sometimes more so as they are rushed to complete things to meet deadlines (and implement the 80% solution) and thus cannot put into the product the full quality it truly deserves.

Now someone said its unbalancing, to that I say hogwash, as Bonus Actions are designed to be weaker than what you can do with a standard Action and really I am guessing if one went through and made a thorough listing of all the Bonus Actions along with their denoted criterion (as some have specific pre or post requisites) that we would find that they truly are not unbalancing to be done as an Action as opposed to a Bonus Action. Again I am not saying the GM is wrong for going with it as it is but it is just one more of those anomalies that denotes that the guidelines as a whole are basically broken as they stand. Still overall they are fairly solid guidelines and much better than some of the other guidelines that are out there.
