I mean there's no experiments to see how livestock take to the location? Also Vets make assume medics as long as they aren't doing specialized surgery.

I like any or all of those ideas — veterinarian for the colony leaders' secret pets, part of some sort of livestock research project (secret or not), or keeper of the proverbial canaries in the coal mine.

Just throwing out ideas, it's not like Ro isn't going to use it to but us in the bum... maybe gently chew on our head.

Those are interesting ideas. I think experimenting on animals/livestock on the planet's environment could be a thing these people do.
Hmm, "canaries" that are used for "less than safe" planetary exploration. That's a unique idea. I'll think about that.
And the secret pet thing... We'll see about that...

Bonobos? No, I imagine they're all clones of Laika. :)
Seriously, I looked over the background thread. The Union seems like the faction most likely to have secret pets, though the corporate overlords of the Industrial Alliance might also fit that bill.
The United Advancement sounds militaristic, and might be the ones who use canaries to test out new environments. Also a likely faction to have a secret bioweapon project that might employ veterinarians.
If the Maker's Men have any ties to real-world, ancient earth religions, they may have need of animals for sacrifice. Many African and African Diaspora religions, Judaism—historically at least—and Islam all have animal sacrifices, for instance. They may keep and care for animals for such purposes, as typically you don't want to sacrifice a poorly treated animal, as that makes the gods mad.
The Industrial Alliance also seems like a good candidate for a secret biotech project involving live animal testing or some such.
Should we pick one or more of the above? Or just leave it undefined for now until it's narratively appropriate?

I am also not fully decided too. So I'll say we could pick one that you like that is also usable in the narrative of your background. The different factions/organisations have general descriptions, but since you have looked through that thread, we can give them additional animal related involvement.
There could be other things your character may not be involved with or have knowledge of, so those things can be for later.

Sounds perfect. Once you're ready for me to jump in, I'll just roll with the narrative, and we can determine the exact nature of the vet work later.
I did roll that "enigmatic" personality trait, though—maybe I'll lean into that after all by saying that whatever his employment is or has been (maybe he's been let go for some reason), he's not supposed to talk about it due to some NDA or death threats or something. :)

I love random character generation. Surprise me, dice! :D
Edit: and that's an... electrician? Welp, time to brush up old textbooks, that's definitely not my strongest area of knowledge. XD Look at this guy's muscles tho.
Also, Wolfish Eyes and Treacherous! Any objections if I downplay Treacherous into somehing more co-op friendly? Creative interpretation: the character tends to hesitate before fighting for others and unlikely to be the first to trust, but doesn't outright betray anyone... just tends towards selfishness. What do you think? I'm not sure I want (and can) play a traitor, but an anti-social grumpy electrician - sure! Or he might be a compulsive liar, maybe?

I see that you rolled already, ignore the recent message I sent.
Also, Wolfish eyes and Treacherous. That's a highly sus combination. Yeah, we should try to work on it. Though... that could work for a potential antagonist. I will allow you to make a reroll to see if it will be better, or you can reinterpret your electrician to be distrusting grumpy type. Whatever you feel is better.

I think it sounds like a fun combo, so grumpy type it is! :D
Speaking of, would clawed gauntlets be medium or large melee weapon? Technically you can throw them, but I doubt it'd be effective. XD (Yup, I'm leaning into that Wolfish Eyes roll. It's going to be one scary electrician.)

Clawed gauntlets would be an unusual weapon here, but I suppose the electrician could be eccentric enough to have one pair custom made. I'll say it is Large Melee Weapon when wearing and attacking with both gauntlets, and Medium Melee if you happen to use only one.

I think I'm done with the sheet! Avatar might take some time, but otherwise it's done. Let me know if I need to change anything or if I missed something!
Meet Nikolai, a furry wannabe-Wolverine electrician in all of his grumpy glory! :D

Looks good. Btw, what sentimental value does his glasses have? The Personal Item is for Will recovery, which means something that can restore sanity after experiencing some horrors.
Oct 5, 2021 10:08 pm
Something like a favorite accessory/good luck charm, I guess? He wears them practically all the time, so there's sentimentality born of having something for a very long time. (I sure have some sentimental attachment to my own glasses. XD) If there should be something concrete, they might've been something he bought after his first successful mercenary job?
Oct 6, 2021 11:20 am
Wait, mercenary job? He was a mercenary before he became an electrician?
If so, is he like the technical specialist of the team, or was he more of an assassin type to be wearing the claw gauntlets?

Sort of! I have this in his bio:
So he's a mercenary, but not always for combat-related jobs? Freelancer would be a better term! Using what skills he possesses to find various job, whatever strikes him fancy at the moment in life.
I figure a normal electrician probably will have more hesitation taking up on some quest to a cursed place. XD
Do you mean the PC team? I figure he'd be both - doing electrical jobs during travel, clawing enemies during planet missions! :D And on the colony base, he probably only been doing electrician stuff so far, which is why he's slightly bored and wants out.

Since then, Volkov spent pretty much all of his life as a drifter mercenary - from bodyfuard for hire, to a security officer, to a lonely space explorer.I figure a normal electrician probably will have more hesitation taking up on some quest to a cursed place. XD

My bad. I now have read through the spoilers in your sheet.
I meant like the Mercenary teams he was a part of. So looks like he mostly does security duty for "suspicious groups".
Ok, I suppose that's a fair motivation to join. Thank you for helping me to clarify his backstory in short notice.
I guess he would be dealing with the Industrial Alliance and other underhanded groups before coming into service with the United Advancement, which is the leading industry in space travel.

Yeah, he's mostly in it for the money and adrenaline. I was thinking he doen't care about who to work for as long as it isn't outright criminal and pays well. Be it companies, politics, mercenaries, less serious smugglers, random people looking for a bodyguard, whatever ships needed an electrician or a guard, etc. :D He also doesn't like working too long for one employer, so that's an extra motivation!
And he wouldn't think too long about which particular group (Alliance, Advancement, Maker's Men...) he inadvertly assists, since he has no opinions about them or politics between them. Except Union, as he has relatives here and probably wishes to not come into contact with them if he can avoid it. But otherwise, no faction loyalty whatsoever. XD

Ok, let's get to the inevitable...
Hp 4, O2 1 -> space docker, equipped with a hook and a mechanical jack, 20 credits, and a single oxygen cannister
Let's swap Dex with Str, -> Str 14, Dex 6, Wil 14
Stuff
flashlight, personal item: medallion with spiritual pattern, 1 oxygen cannister, hook, mechanical jack, weapon: hand axe, vacsuit, communicator, magnetic boots
Character
calloused hands, tattooed body, dreadlocks, black skin, name's Bwaudan Luossa
I'll roll for personality, but if I don't like them, I'll choose instead: dominating but impressionable. Hm. Ok, let's go with those.
