While at the smithy/stables I visit the horse that saved my life, making sure he is comfortable, fed, and healing well. I also use Lay on Hands to heal him 4 hp. Horse heals 4 hp
With some extra healing from Runeson the horse is looking much better. Attached to the horse's stall is a note with Runeson's name written in a flowing hand:
[ +- ] Runeson
The note is signed Laurëa.

"well you just clack them together in a rhythm.. it usually sounds better when everyone’s drunk"

Rift fades in and out after talking to the ogre. What was his name? Tiny? Stinky? No, something small. Smally? Smelly? Why was he thinking so much about smells?

The world swims around him and he feels like he's flying. Was his mother here or did he finally figure out how to fly on his own? He smiles. Then there is wet pressure on his shoulder. Did he grow wings? He tries to flap them. Or are those his arms?

Noises filter into his brain, but they are soft and fuzzy. So soft. So fuzzy. He snuggles up and closes his eyes. This is a good dream.

"That's awesome. You have to know your audience and let me tell you, I've seen a few drunk people who would go wild for some spoons."

After reading the books I found, I decide that it is time to return to my room for a long rest.
Maybe I will visit Laurëa tomorrow evening. Tonight I am exhausted.
In the morning, I decide to revisit the library again.

"Have you seen it? If not, could I look around for it?"
Drosh rubs a nailed finger down the side of his scaled face, making a clack-clack-clack sound. "Yes, I remember Phlydia. She was quite filthy that day, as though she had rolled about in a stable stall. But I do not remember a book in her possession. To be truthful, the Avowed are rather strict about letting their books in here, for reasons that I am sure you are aware."

He gestures to the various rooms of the bathhouse. "You are welcome to look about, however! And if something you see looks appealing, we can make arrangements for you next time you come."

After searching for a good while, Stella does not find the book anywhere within the bathhouse, and no one recalls having seen it.

After a diversion in the tavern, Aiwë enters the Pillars of Pedagogy and approaches the first Avowed she sees. "Aiya! I was hoping you could help me. I'm looking for the histories of the elvish and orcish races in the area. Also, I'd like to read the most popular ballads. Do you know where Sir Chief Keggruk is? I'd like to sit with him."

Dieter decides to visit the library and see if he can find any books on business management or bartering

"hello I’m wondering if you’d be able to find any books on these topics?" Dieter says when approached and gives them a note with some subject prompts on them
Jun 7, 2021 7:55 pm
A weary-looking Avowed answers Aiwë's request. "Of course, Seeker. Sir Chief Keggruk has a room just over there. I'll go see about those books. Excuse me, Seeker."

As the Avowed leaves, Aiwë can hear him muttering to himself. "Finally, some normal requests for books..."

An Avowed returns to Dieter sometime later with a pair of books.

"Thank you!"

Aiwë follows Mesen's direction to where her uncle is reading. Slipping into his room, Aiwë settles herself across from him, making note of what he's reading while she waits for an opportunity to speak or for Mesen to come back with her books.

Kay eyes the clothier suspiciously and asks
"Worms? like for fishing…? ah no before i forget im lookong for a book a toung women may have left here within the last 42hour/"

Keggruk smiles as Aiwë walks in, immediately giving her his attention. He slides a feathery bookmark into his tome, which bears the name Martyr's Progeny.

"Hello, Shelur!" The orog always has an extra *oomph* to his voice when he speaks Orcish. "How have you enjoyed Candlekeep so far? Chaide would have loved it here. I doubt even the Keeper of the Emerald Door would have kept her from exploring the secrets in the Inner Ward."
Jun 7, 2021 10:53 pm
"It's too bad she wasn't well enough to travel," Shelur mourns. "We'll have to bring her back some good books.

Speaking of, do you have a copy of your book yet? My blood burns to read it! There's a super sour grump who wants to read a copy too. A half-orc named Koveras Anchev. He was in charge of that ore cart job me and the others did.

Sounds like his nobleman dad adopted him as a charity stunt or something. 'Stamped out' everything undesirable, like his orc-ness. I think that's why he wanted your book. He shut himself up about that far into our conversation, though. He finds me extremely aggravating."
Aiwë chuckles, clearly unbothered by his opinion.

"I don't think he's used to people talking to him like a person. Anyway you might like talking to him."

Stella scribbles down some notes and nods.

She bites her lip and smiles sheepishly, obviously tempted by the offer.

"I'll keep that in mind. Thank you Drosh!"

After a fruitless search, she thanks Drosh again and leaves. Wiping sweat from her face, she partially regrets not getting properly changed out of her boots, skirt, and blouse.

Alright, she relents to herself. After you've done some good studying, then maybe...

She opens her tome to study her notes.

"She was dirty...as if rolling around in a stable...?" she muses, thoughtfully tapping her pencil to her lips. "Something like that would explain why she also went to the Clothiers..."
OOC:
She briefly searches for Phlydia where she had run into her and Kay. It's earlier than they said they'd meet up again, but if she can find her, she'll report that she didn't find it in the bathhouse and ask what she had been doing beforehand like if there was an accident at the stables or something. If she can't immediately find her, she'll head to the Stables to investigate and ask around.

Kay eyes the clothier suspiciously and asks
"Worms? like for fishing…?"
Feldmar Bisset III puts a hand to his heart. "Ah, but you wound Feldmar, mademoiselle! Do you really think me a man of mere fishes? Nay!" He stamps one foot and spins around, graceful as a dancer - which he might be. "My worms of silk! With the cocoons they leave be'ind, I craft beautiful dresses of the 'eighest fashion!" He whirls over to a line of dresses and picks out one of soft lavender with gold filigree. "Be'old! The inspiration for this one came to me in a dream once, and I didn't eat or sleep for nearly a tenday until I finished it! I-"

Feldmar nearly faints in disappointment, though somehow not before safely rehanging the dress. "The dress does not impress. Woe is my heart until I... Oh. Yes. I mean, there are several books that 'ave been left 'ere. The clients often have someone read aloud to them while measurements and fittings are done."

The odd clothier pulls a handful of books from behind the counter. Their titles are Volo's Guide to Monsters, The Flowing Light of Divinity, and Praktikal Mekaniks.

Stella does not find Phlydia at the meeting spot. The woman is likely still combing through her quarters at the House of Rest. But the stables are only a few minutes' walk away. The stablehand there is an elven woman, who is currently fitting a saddle on top of a large draft horse.

"Elen 'sila lumenn' omentielvo." The customary elven greeting flows gracefully from the stablehand's tongue. "My name is Laurëa. Can I help you, Seeker?"

Keggruk nods slowly. "There are some who always seem angry and continuously seek conflict. The battle they fight isn't with you, it is within themselves." The words have the ring of a quote. "It sounds like I should have a word with the man. These days one should be proud of our heritage."

The orog meets Shelur's gaze and then looks away, obviously uncomfortable about something. "I was going to have it be a surprise, but... I ordered a handful of copies to give out as gifts. One of them is for you, and one for your mother, of course." He frowns. "And one for... Well. If she doesn't want it, perhaps I'll give it to this Koveras Anchev."
Jun 8, 2021 1:15 am
Shelur hops up with delight and leans over the table to kiss Keggruk on his lovely orcish nose.

"Blood first!" she declares at his plan. "You give Anchev my copy, and if Wirrow doesn't want hers then I'll take care of it until she wises up!"

The paladin blinks in surprise at Shelur's token of affection - though he knows he really shouldn't be surprised. Then again, can anyone actually predict what the spontaneous girl might do next?

"That's very kind of you to say." There is no true Orcish word for 'kind'. There is a close one that means 'soft' in a rather derogatory sense. But in the years since the One-Eyed God's death the Cagebreakers have been hard at work filling out the holes in their vocabulary. The word Keggruk uses actually means 'childlike'. It turns out that even orcs have nice words to describe the young of their species.

"You have a generous heart, Shelur. All who know you love you for it." Again, there is no Orcish word for 'love'. But the idea of finding strength in someone, that idea has existed for much longer than the Cagebreaker tribe. "I understand why you have not choose the life of a paladin. We have a way of painting our own view on the world, and it can blind us to certain truths and opportunities. But you." The orog's eyes show a hint of wetness. "You can relate to anyone and lift them up. It is a gift, Shelur; your father's empathy, and your mother's sheer will. I hope to see all the good that you will accomplish with it."

Keggruk sighs and looks away. "I wish I could talk to Wirrow like this. Like a proud... someone. I have tried to respect her space over the last few years, but I worry that she may never let me in. And so I remain at a distance, trying to think of indirect ways to help her. To show her that I care." He forms a fist and places it gently, yet solidly, on the table. "You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it." Another deliberate quote?
