Act 1: Scene 2: The Red Barn

Jun 23, 2021 12:09 am
For some reason I am not able to add rolls to the first post in a thread, so this is just a filler post lol. Ignore.
Jun 23, 2021 12:27 am
Dareal just rounds the corner of the house and Kenzie and Kyle just make it to the back door in the kitchen as Link opens the door to the red barn. He does not even have time to take in the view in front of him before his entire world goes bright white. He is absolutely rocked with pain as two point-blank shotgun blasts send shrapnel tearing through all parts of his body. Holding the smoking barrel is a sickly-looking ghoul who stands like a drunk man on the New Vegas strip. With an old, off-kilter straw hat and a crazed grin on his face, the ghoul giggles as he watches the armored man before him stumble at the power of his gun.

"Hello there, friend. You look swell! Hahahahahahaehehehehhe....*cough*cough*" he cackles.

Link is knocked back by the sudden attack. Surprised that he's actually still standing, Link raises his pistol and fired, aiming for the ghouls head.

OOC:
you got it...
I tallied the damageonto Link's charactersheet. Between the molerats and the shotgun, Link is down to 1 health.

OOC:
Yikes! Well, don’t forget about taking chems (minor action) or the First Aid major action! Or you could use a luck point to use Luck of the Draw and say there happens to be a wheelbarrow Link can duck behind to get some cover or something (though not this turn, since Link used minor action to aim and major action to attack), you guys can get creative!
Jun 23, 2021 7:34 pm
OOC:
Is the ghoul standing in the open doorway to the barn and can we seen him?
Jun 23, 2021 8:09 pm
OOC:
Yes, the ghoul is making no effort to hide. He is just standing in the middle of the doorway. Everyone can see him, but Kyle and Kenzie are still inside the house, and so are technically in an adjacent zone. You two will have to enter the backyard in order to get into the same zone as him.
Jun 23, 2021 8:18 pm
Upon seeing the ghoul, Kenzie levels her pistol, aims, and fires.

Minor Action: Aiming - can re-roll one attack die
Major Action: Ranged Attack - +1 to difficulty for range (Using 1 AP)
Using the extra success to add +1dF to damage

Agility (7) + Small guns (2) = TN 9
Three successes (So two hits)
Damage: 5
Location: Right Arm

Seing Link get shot, Kyle mutters a curse and looks through his equipment for a first aid kit. He proceeds to run out the door and get as close as he can. Trying to stay close to the wall and out of sight of the ghoul. He'll wave frantically at Link to get him to come over to Kyle.
OOC:
So that's one minor action to draw the First Aid Kit and then I spend one AP to move close to the barn wall.
Jun 24, 2021 12:35 pm
"No hurt friend!"

The mutant bellows in rage; the turret's discarded, a mere afterthought, and only cleaving the offender in twain will satisfy him, and maybe not even then. Before the ghoul is able to reload, Dareal makes multiple frenzied slashes. He won't stop until the offender is reduced to mincemeat.

OOC:
@Rage, this was my mistake during the molerat battle, but AP can only be spent to add extra damage to thrown or melee weapons. In order to add damage you'll have to spend extra ammunition, which you can do every time you hit, and you can add a number of dF's to a damage roll equal to the weapon's Fire Rate, spending 1 ammunition for each dF you add.

@Furmyr, sounds like Kyle used the Draw Item minor action, and then the Sprint major action, so no need to use an action point :)
The ghoul hardly reacts to the shots and slaps assailing him, not because they don't hurt, but because he simply seems not to care. In between blows he coughs up a thick, maroon, chunky, vile liquid-goo from somewhere deep within him, before smiling up at you all again like nothing happened. Come on! I was *cough* winning, you bastards! That.....*cough* that's fine hehehehehe. You can only give me victory big green man... big green, handsome man. hehe *cough*cough*" he mutters.

He suddenly perks up as if he heard something from inside the house, which none of you do. "Oh! *cough*. Coming darling!" he begins to run towards the house, well, more like drunkenly skip towards the house, but turns back towards Dareal before he reaches the doorway and fires off two shots haphazardly.

Knowing he needs to find cover, Link moves around the corner of the barn and away from the ghoul. Grabbing his Stimpack, Link jambs himself in the leg and let's the meds do their work. Raising his pistol, Link sights in on the ghoul, just in case.
OOC:
How much does a Stimpack heal?

Seeing the ghoul survive their first barrage and head toward her and the house, Kenzie steps forward to get a better shot and fires. Her bullets find their mark, ripping into the old ghoul's chest with such force he is flipped backward and lands hard on the ground twitching. His shotgun, lost in sudden impact of the 10mm bullets tearing into his withered torso, lands several feet away from the dying ghoul.

Minor Action: Move into the same Zone at the ghoul
Major Action: Ranged Attack - (Using 1 AP)
Using an extra bullet to add +1dF to damage

"Jeeze," Kyle mutters still with his back pressed against the wall. "Was that the guy we were going to check in on. Report won't look good that we ended up shooting him."
Jun 29, 2021 8:58 pm
Link can't help, but to agree with Kyle. Carefully moving up he peers back into the barn, making sure that there's no longer any threats.
Jun 29, 2021 11:09 pm
OOC:
I try to put any items I give you guys in the Equipment thread, but a stimpack heals 4 HP.
Link gives the barn a quick sweep for danger, but unless the broken shards of wooden farming tools, a smashed wheelbarrow, tons of random clothing full of bullets holes, and a couple of mucusy handkerchiefs present an imminent threat, the coast is clear.
OOC:
Anyone can roll a check to further investigate the inside of the barn.
Jun 30, 2021 7:15 pm
Taking his time Link does a through search of the barn.
OOC:
Obviously it wasn't enough...lol

I did total the damage taken & healed as well as shots fired on Link'scharactersheet.

Kenzie holsters her pistol and documents the second dead ghoul with a few photos. She picks up the shotgun and checks to see if there's any shells on the corpse, before heading into the barn.

"Link?" She calls out as she enters. "Are you alright?!"

Seeing the mess within, Kenzie noses around to see what she can find.
OOC:
Yay Me! Got a critical success!

I'm fine. I'm just looking around in here. Link says as he hears Kenzie call out.
Jul 1, 2021 9:47 pm
"I can patch you up if needed?" Kyle offers holding up his first aid kit. "And preferably before we find the next thing hell bent on ending us."

As long as Dareal lets him, he'll attempt to patch him up as well. "You really got messed up buddy. Think you might have to sit the rest of this investigation out."

Link will definitely take the offer of first aid.
Jul 2, 2021 3:57 pm
Once he's finished patching up the worst of Dareal's wounds, he begins applying first aid to Link.

Rolls

Medicine + Intelligence (TN: 9) - (2d20)

(517) = 22

Jul 2, 2021 11:18 pm
OOC:
A successful First Aid action heals a number of hit points equal to your medicine rank, plus, Kyle has a First Aid Kit which adds 2 to that, so both Dareal and Link gain another 5 hit points!
I, unfortunately, don't have Dareal's sheet anymore, so I'm not sure what he's at or anything.
[ +- ] Ammo Spent
~Ghoul's Body~
Kenzie picks up the shotgun, and it definitely feels heftier than the 10mm pistol in her holster. Searching his body, Kenzie finds a couple of shotgun shells and a small pouch of caps. (double barrel shotgun stats are in the equipment thread under small guns)

~Barn~
Looking inside the barn, unfortunately there isn't much to go on. Against one wall there is a table with __ perfectly ripe melons sitting atop it. The group figures they would sure be refreshing, or they could haul them back to town and get a couple caps off of them. There is a cooking station against the far wall, but it looks like it's been a couple days since it's been used, and there are bullet holes all over the pots and pans surrounding it. A simple toolbench sits against the wall opposite the table, with numerous simple metal tools that look to be on their very last legs, like they just may have been put to use nonstop for the entirety of the past 200 years.

Scattered across the ground are all the things Link saw earlier. Unfortunately, no clear answer seems to be found here. The man seemed clearly off his rocker; hearing things that weren't there, not remembering things, and coughing up every molecule of air in his lungs. And for someone who supposedly has lived in this exact house for over 200 years, it seems strange that all of a sudden he snapped like this for sure.
OOC:
Found 6 caps and 3 shotgun shells on his body, and 2 melons in the barn. Now'd be a good time to use luck points to scavenge more or find something additional ;)
OOC:
Link rolled a complication, but I can't really think of something right now, so I'm just gonna add 1 AP to my pool, and your guys' pool is back to max!

Rolls

Caps (1d20), Shotgun shells (2dF) - (1d20, 2d6)

1d20 : (6) = 6

2d6 : (52) = 7

Melons (2dF) - (2d6)

(32) = 5

Jul 2, 2021 11:28 pm
Kenzie pockets the shells and stuffs the bag of caps into her backpack. "Let's not forget those melons on the way back to town. Its not like these old ghouls are gonna eat them or sell them."

Jul 8, 2021 4:58 pm
Picking up one of the melons and stuffing it in her backpack, along with loose shells for the shotgun, Kenzie returns to the house and does a thorough search for any clues they may have misses or salvage that when unnoticed in their rush to get out to the barn, with the sudden explosion of shotgun fire.
OOC:
Kenzie will also use a Luck point and search the house for cap stashes, electronics, trinkets, etc.

Kenzie and Link begin scouring the small property for any supplies that the group might've missed in their haste. Link finds a few extra shotgun shells in a bloody pouch on the poor ghoul's jacket, he wipes the warm blood off of them in the grass of the backyard and hands them to Kenzie as the group moves inside. Kenzie begins searching the house and finds some useful electronics in the oven and some parts to an old gun that has been deconstructed, looked like some kind of passion project that one of the ghouls might have been working on.
OOC:
Rolling a d2 to determine if she finds an extra cap cache or some useful supplies for crafting...
Crafting Materials! Rolling 3dF to see how much Common Materials you might find.
Kenzie can add 3 Common Materials to her equipment (used in crafting/modding)
