You may roll up to 3 characters and pick your favorite pool. Available classes are found here.

Two quick things, sir!
(1) I like the Thief class and I would be happy to fill that role. I have a couple of character concepts which I had shelved for "later use" that I would employ here. Should I include the character history/background here for your review or include it in the bottom of the character sheet/file?
(2) Sorry for the moronic question, but when you say favorite "pool", do you mean pool of rolls or do I write up 3 complete characters, pick one, play with them and should they meet an untimely fate, I can then enlist the services of one the others?

It should also be noted that if you opt to separate race/class your race options are Drow, Dueregar, Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Human, and Svirfneblen, but not all races can choose all classes. Some are limited to certain Classes, and all races have level caps on their choice of class.
There is a list of Races allowable here.

Got it. What would be the best way for you to receive my rolls? Good faith? Does the site have a built-in rolling system?
Jun 26, 2021 11:21 pm
On that note, I'm probably going "traditional" textbook thief; the default human thief as in the original game.
Jun 26, 2021 11:31 pm
Noted that you're going to take the Thief class.
And yes, there's a dice roller.
1. At the bottom of your reply box you have two red buttons: "Post" and "Advanced". Click on "Advanced".
2. Below the comment box you'll now see a black bar that says "Rolls and Decks". There's a Red button below that that says "Add". Click on "Add".
3. There's two blank bars now below the "Add" button. One says "Reason". Type in "Character 1 Dice Pool", or something of the sort. It doesn't really matter what you type in there, but it won't let you roll the dice if it is left remaining blank. In the other blank bar, which says "Roll", you can type in whatever dice you're rolling ("3d6", or "1d20", or "2d4", for example). In this case you can copy/paste or type in the following:
3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6
That will give you six rolls of 3d6 when you click the red "Save" button, and will look like what you see below...

OOC:
Hey, that guy's not too shabby if I say so myself...Rolls
Example of Dice Roller - (3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6)
3d6 : (654) = 15
3d6 : (266) = 14
3d6 : (434) = 11
3d6 : (151) = 7
3d6 : (635) = 14
3d6 : (416) = 11

I'm going to roll that now, but before I do, let me say Thank You. I appreciate you taking the time to explain things like I'm a toddler, which in this setting, I appreciate. Even though I'm a grown ass man, this clear, detailed, step-by-step process is what I need to understand things.

First group, assuming I did this correctly.
Rolls
Character 1 Dice Pool - (3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6)
3d6 : (263) = 11
3d6 : (465) = 15
3d6 : (115) = 7
3d6 : (656) = 17
3d6 : (422) = 8
3d6 : (551) = 11
Jun 27, 2021 12:38 am
Round 2!
Rolls
Character 2 Dice Pool - (3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6)
3d6 : (223) = 7
3d6 : (631) = 10
3d6 : (414) = 9
3d6 : (231) = 6
3d6 : (232) = 7
3d6 : (114) = 6
Jun 27, 2021 12:38 am
...
I'm usually a pessimist by trade, but I feel it cannot be argued that those are horrible rolls.

Third time's a charm?
Rolls
Character 3 Dice Pool - (3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6, 3d6)
3d6 : (132) = 6
3d6 : (464) = 14
3d6 : (241) = 7
3d6 : (512) = 8
3d6 : (212) = 5
3d6 : (443) = 11
Jun 27, 2021 12:48 am
Going with pool 1, then; assigned as follows:
STRENGTH: 15
INTELLIGENCE: 8
WISDOM: 11
DEXTERITY: 17
CONSTITUTION: 11
CHARISMA: 7
STRENGTH: 15
INTELLIGENCE: 8
WISDOM: 11
DEXTERITY: 17
CONSTITUTION: 11
CHARISMA: 7

Well the first pool isn't too shabby at all. They'll have better stats than the party's current Thief, and he's survived long enough to reach Level 2, so...
Jun 27, 2021 12:54 am
Okay. He starts with Max HP plus any Con bonuses, so that's going to be 4. You'll need to roll 3d6 and multiply it by 10 for starting gold.
Jun 27, 2021 2:13 am
I guess, in hindsight, it isn't too bad. I do like that not everything is stellar, which helps shape the character and how he's going to be portrayed. Let's resolve Starting Gold next:
Rolls
Starting Gold - (3d6)
(344) = 11
Jun 27, 2021 2:14 am
So far, we have:
Norris DeWitt
Level 1 Human Thief
ALIGNMENT: Neutral
HIT POINTS: 4
STRENGTH: 15 ( +1 )
INTELLIGENCE: 8 ( -1 )
WISDOM: 11 ( +0 )
DEXTERITY: 17 ( +2 )
CONSTITUTION: 11 ( +0 )
CHARISMA: 7 ( -1 )
Starting Gold: 110GP
Norris DeWitt
Level 1 Human Thief
ALIGNMENT: Neutral
HIT POINTS: 4
STRENGTH: 15 ( +1 )
INTELLIGENCE: 8 ( -1 )
WISDOM: 11 ( +0 )
DEXTERITY: 17 ( +2 )
CONSTITUTION: 11 ( +0 )
CHARISMA: 7 ( -1 )
Starting Gold: 110GP

As far as I'm aware, all that's left is Saving Throws, Thief Skills and Inventory Management. Am I missing any other vital detail?
Jun 27, 2021 8:37 pm
That sounds about right.
Thief Saving Throws should be:
D13 W14 P13 B16 S15
Thief Skills are:
Climb 87%
Find/Remove Traps 10%
Hear Noise 2-in-6
Hide in Shadows 10%
Move Silently 20%
Pick Locks 15%
Pick Pockets 20%

I'm missing inventory, but I was going to apply him as-is right now for your review. I'm still able to update/modify the character sheet even after they've been submitted/approved, correct?
I'll send him in and you let me know what you think.

You can purchase your inventory and then we'll figure out how to fold him into the group. Just for your own information, we use Option #2 for tracking Encumbrance. Basically that means that your character's armor, weapons, and treasure are about the only things that count as weight (measured in "coins"). All the rest of his items (torches, flint and steel, rations, waterskin, backpack, etc.) just fall under "Miscellaneous Gear" and count as 80 coins of weight.

I keep a spreadsheet on hand that I use to track your PC's Experience Points, Encumbrance, and things like that, and I'll add your PC to it after you buy his gear. I wouldn't personally worry about tracking your own encumbrance too much, unless you like that sort of thing. If you ever need access to this spreadsheet, I post a link to it at the top of the first post of each "Official Gameplay" thread.
Also, when you get a chance, can you find an image of your character and send it to me so that I can make a token for them for use on the battlemaps?

Also, I'm glad you enjoyed the background! Please feel free to add any of the content as hooks or ways for him to get in trouble later on; I deliberately like to add lots of loose ends, an NPC or two, and lots of tidbits in a character's history that the DM can pluck and use. If you do, great! If you don't, great!
I'll take care of the inventory shortly.

Something's weird about the link you posted for your character's image. It just takes me to the first post in this thread.

funfungiguy@yahoo.com will work.
I see it's a google drive file. Are you sure it's set up in settings so that anyone with the link can view it?

Emailed it!
Honestly, I thought I had configured the link that way, but for some reason, GDrive has always annoyed and perplexed me. I'm not a tech GENIUS, but I feel competent enough... though GDrive gets me every time.

Got it. I'll make it a token tomorrow morning.
Now we just need to get you with the group. I'm guessing the party is slowly trying to make their way back to Hommlet, as two of them are severely injured, but I'm also open to figuring how else you might meet them.
I think it would be commonly known through rumour in the Village that the party went to the Moathouse Ruins earlier in the day.

Since Norris isn't loyal to the group (yet), he could vulture his way through the place, picking at whatever they leave behind to see what he can sell for coin. This would include any bodies of the PCs (again, since there's no allegiance yet).
Or, he could go there on his own accord hoping that the distraction caused by the PCs gives him an opportunity to focus his efforts on finding something of value in these ruins without being bothered by baddies?
That, or he could just be in town when they [eventually] arrive. Perhaps he's trying to escape from a couple of ruffians who want to break a finger as a form of late fee for a missed payment, when he (literally) runs into the group?

Ooh, a sling; my favorite! I use one of those the throw my cowdog tennis balls.
Also, you have your sling at a weight of 20 coins, but slings are the only weapons I've found in the B/X book that don't have a weight attached to them. I don't know if that was an oversight on Moldvay's part or if it's because it's basically just a small leather pouch and a couple of strings, but either way, it doesn't weigh anything or count towards encumbrance in B/X.
And in B/X you start with 30 sling stones. But you can certainly only carry 20 if you like. But also I'm pretty crap so far at tracking PCs' ammo and have been letting the players honor-code it.

Also, waiting until the party returns to town is generally the easiest way to introduce a new PC, but nezzeraj did that with his PC and Bors the Fighter was waiting around the tavern for freaking ever waiting for the PCs to return to the village. Like, months irl, I'm pretty sure.
So it might be best if Norris figures out a reason he decided to go lurking around out at the Moathouse Ruins on his own.
But also, I'm guessing they're going to either use their healing potions soon or return to the village because their fighter and their halfling are both in rough shape, as is their hireling.

RE: Sling
I admit that I too was surprised that it had a weight; I mean, in truth, you could just double-it as a belt or even add it to the "misc gear" all-inclusive weight. That said, I'll adjust that weight away and enjoy life at 340 coins. Otherwise, if everything else looks good, I'll add it officially.
RE: Joining the Party
Honestly, I'm fine either way. If you want me to sit tight in town for a little, to see if that's the direction they're going, great. If it looks like they're going to drag their feet, deviate or detour, then we can "accelerate" that meeting and have me in the area/in the same place and following my own agenda. We can RP the exchange from there, or you can nudge us in one way or another. Or maybe I emerge from the shadows in one of the rooms they amble into? I was about to start ransacking it, or searching it for anything of value, heard them, and slipped into darkness.
