[ +- ] It's a bit long. Firbolg Nature Domain Cleric
As a young Firbolg, Spirit's clan changed how they interacted with the forest. They ceased hunting of all kind and banned fires of any kind, causing the clan to persist on edible plants. The clan's priest of Silvanus claimed that these changes would disrupt the balance of the forest and anger the gods. The priest interested Spirit so he began to learn from her.
Over the decades changes could be seen in the forest. Debris of dead plants and animals began to build up; the supply of edible plants began to dwindle; and the populations of the woodland creatures began to rise. Over this time Spirit also became a full priest of Silvanus.
After a long heat wave Spirit was meditating by a dwindled stream away from the tribe when a sudden storm struck. In the storm a fire started in the forest and quickly overtook much of the woodland. Spirit took shelter in the stream and only just survived. As he explored the aftermath of the fire Spirit discover he was the only survivor of his tribe.
After this tragedy Spirit went to human villages that were located on the edge of forests to preach for natural balance. He would disguise himself as a half-elf to preach the dangers of over and under hunting, and over and under harvesting from the forest. He would preach by day and go into the forests to clear debris by night, hoping to help prevent further forest fires.
In time during his nomadic existence of preaching balance, he overheard some villagers refer to a "spirit" that they thought was cleaning up the forest. Liking the idea of that, Spirit adopted the term as his moniker.
He has traveled around for quite some time, learning more about the world and doing his best to maintain the balance of nature. Who knows how he would react to suddenly arriving in a barren, ashy landscape? Will it test his faith in the balance of nature? Will it test his patience to be away from the forests he loves? Only time can tell.
