Thanks for the info! But I have another question. I thought the class I choose in the beginning is my favored class. Do I have to choose one in addition to Ranger? Or can I choose Ranger as my favored class as well? How does that work?

Also, I'm trying to add weapons to GP sheet but it doesn't accept. I don't see an Attack Bonus stat in d20PFSRD so I don't fill that, that's why it doesn't accept. Is information on d20PFSRD lacking or should I just write 0 in these cases?

Sorry for spam posting but I guess I'm done with the character. I made the sheet public so you should be able to see it from here. If you have the time, can you check the sheet and review it for me? I've bought armor, weapon, shield and basic kits. I've looked at your characters also to see if I missed anything. Do I need additional gear before starting?

C1NDER says:
Okay cool - keep in mind that everyone at level 1 chooses a favored class as well. Any time, including 1st level, you gain a level in your favored class you get an additional HP or skill point. So if you go with skill points, you could potentially start with up to 16 skill points!

Half-elves get the racial trait 'Adaptability', which gives them the Skill Focus feat for free at level 1. In addition, all characters get 1 feat of their choice at level 1.
And as level 2 ranger you get another feat from your combat style.

Okey. With the huge help of LightOfMidnight and the aids of others from the thread, I've finished my character and submitted it for the game. Now it is up from GM to approve it if there is no problem and continue the game where it was left off. I hope I'll fit in nicely and we'll have a nice and fun game.

I've accepted it into the game. Ill review it in more detail later, but feel free to jump into the current scene.

I'd suggest picking another PC and "knowing" them from earlier in the week. They're drinking at a table at the Tooth and Hookah tavern.

I have entered the scene. I realized I have not explained what kind of a character Abenor is. Much like me who is eager to learn Pathfinder and venture into this adventure with you, Abenor is also known for his eagerness and over-optimism. He has a good heart (Chaotic Good obviously) but he can be selfish as he fails to assess how his actions may affect others in certain situations or if the judgment he made is good enough to act upon. I made a background story with Khadi and left it open, LightofMidnight is free to expand the story or leave it altogether as it's just an opener. For his background, he was one of many, many children of his disinterested and self-obsessed family, thus he cut his ties with them a long time ago. He is used to taking care of his own and never forms a permanent bond with a place or a person. When he feels he has become too attached to a place, he quickly leaves there and never returns. He learned this adventure while he was going through such a phase. In general, he is a light spirited person.

Awesome start, glad you joined us!

I thought I could use some combat experience before we delve into undeads :) Although, if I unknowingly broke some rule with that question, like there is a strict no fight policy in the tavern and people would look at me strange, I’ll totally accept the consequences.

Okay, so how will this work? Should I roll initiative? I'll already have drawn my sword since this is an agreed fight but how do we proceed after that?
Feb 19, 2022 2:28 pm
Yeah, just a normal fight, but since it's a duel, you should define terms. First hit, first hit that would be serious (call it more than 5-damage), knocked off a table, you'll pull your blows so no actual damage done.

I added the rolls you wanted. I think when I uncheck the minor edit box, it sends you a notification even when you read the first version of the post. Am I correct? If it's indeed like that than I won't post here to notify that I've edited it in the future.
Feb 19, 2022 4:05 pm
It should do that, but I don't see a notification on the front page.
Feb 19, 2022 4:08 pm
Maybe I couldn't click it or forgot it. I edited the post again to check. Do you see a notification this time?
Feb 19, 2022 4:16 pm
Actually, it marked your post as unread, so that was good. Just not a notification per se.

Great scene, @Ireneofunyes. It wasn't necessarily a great tutorial on dueling (since I ruled you were both pulling your punches, for which I don't think there is a solid rule for), but any questions about the process?

Thank you! I think it went great, too. I'm justvery happy I win, otherwise I would have to do extra work to compensate my failure...

Yes, it was one-on-one and not a real fight, technically, so it was like a simplified combat. For now, I only have one question related to combat in general. I think attack of opportunity is a great tool in combat that can be extremely effective if used correctly, both in D&D and more so in Pathfinder. My question is: how do I understand if I can use an attack of opportunity? I mean, we don't use a grid page here also, should I just ask that if the opponent is in my range of attack?

Attacks of Opportunity are an important part of Pathfinder combat. Using only a they're of the mind approach, I tend to favor the players in such evaluations. If it comes up, I'll try and prompt you, but if I do forget, asking is certainly appropriate.

It wouldn't be out of the ordinary for any one of us to mention it, if it stands out as being a possibility based on the description of the scene. To be quite fair, there are so many fiddly things to keep track of during Pathfinder combat, it's easy to miss something like an attack of opportunity prompt, so we all help each other out.

Okay great then. I'll definitely have more questions in the future, especially when we level up and I get to make spells.

Since we are talking about Attacks of Opportunity and learning combat it is important to point a few things:

Power attack: we are using THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM house rule. In this rule it is stated that Power Attack is "a combat option for any class with at least +1 BAB". The original say you must have at least a STR 13 to use power attack. The GM has the final say about this, but I think it would be better if we get rid with the STR 13 prerequisite.

Feint: Feint is a standard action that provokes opportunity attacks. So normally it is not possible to feint and attack in the same round, even if you attack more than once per round, since a full attack is a full round action (attacking with two weapons is a full attack).

To avoid the opportunity attack THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM house rule uses the Deft Maneuvers feat that is not free. And it is possible to feint as a immediate action using the swordplay style feat tree.

I would like add that the RULE OF COOL must apply in this scene, since it was very cool.
