Building Your Krewe

There's a bit of overlap in Jay having Reconciler and the 4 dot Mystery Cult Initiation Merits for it. So, if I may, I'd like to move the three dots I had in Reconciler into Mystery Cult Initiation and pick it up that way along with the other Mystery Cult perks. Would that be acceptable, G_C?

No problem. That's a good idea. That'll also give you access to all three of the krewe's Ceremonies.

Max is in a similar situation. He has two dots in reconciler and 2 in mystery crew. I'll move the two dots from reconciler to mystery crew for the same reason.

Sounds good.

I need some last minute information about the krewe before I make my post.

The original Crossroads Kings functioned as a Voodoo church; a group of likeminded people united by their shared beliefs. Should I assume the same for your krewe? Is the krewe operating as a tour business or paranormal investigators, or have those ideas been dropped?

Also, when was the krewe founded? I’m assuming just a few years ago or so.

My thoughts:

Since ghost and paranormal tours are booked out front of the House of Voodoo and they often have voodoo practitioners offering their services in the back, I'd say we could do both. As for the church aspect, I have no problems, but it would take someone better adept at Voodoun to actually head services. Vikki maybe could pull it off. Though, another celebrant with more experience would be better.

Adriana has only been in the Krewe a few years. I would guess Derek and Max have been in longer. IIRC, Max has been dead for 10 -15 years. Derek, I don't know. I don't think we've actually established who started the Krewe.

Whether the Krewe is involved or not, I imagine that Max's paranormal investigation service is still in business. Although, the extent of his operation would vary based on the demands of his work with the Krewe.

I'm inclined to think Jay is a rather recent addition to the Krewe, given that he's only been dead a couple of years. I'd think the ghost tour business is one of the financial mainstays and activity cover of the Krewe do that'd be in full swing with Max's paranormal investigations and Derek's child advocacy group folded in as side interests/side businesses, run by their respective Bound, offering additional avenues of investigation and action.
I'd think that one of the Krewe celebrants lead the actual 'church' and be its public face unless either Max or Derek has a substantial knowledge of Voodoo. Whether it be Adrianna's girlfriend or another celebrant would make sense. The four of us having taken over the Kings from an older batch of Bound passing on would make sense if the Krewe has a reputation and presence in New Orleans previous to any of the PCs.

I'll assume that the investigation service and the krewe are separate things, but that you use the service to acquire haunting cases for the krewe to work on. It's probably also a good way to recruit members, since your customers are likely to be people who've already had a brush with the supernatural and believe in ghosts. Some celebrants might help with the service from time to time, but the two are distinct organizations.

Your krewe also has a single dot in the Safe Place Merit, representing the krewe's headquarters or place of worship. At one dot, this place is fairly rudimentary. Probably someone's apartment, an abandoned building, a room rented at a local community center, etc.

The original Crossroads Kings had a hounfour (Voodoo temple) set up in the raised-basement of one of the members. The hounfour also doubles as the krewe's Cenote (a place connected to the Underworld where Bound members can replenish Plasm). This would presumably be the site of the krewe’s Library.

The nature of your HQ doesn't need to be decided now. Just keep it in mind for the future.

No problem. A krewe typically requires a minimum of one Sin-Eater to be a founder; all other founding members can potentially be ghosts or regular humans. Perhaps one of your characters may have founded the krewe, and the rest joined up later on. You can decide among yourselves who is the founding member(s). Doesn't need to be decided know. I just want to get your krewe's history straight in my head before I write up the celebrants.

Alternately, your krewe may have originally been founded by an NPC Sin-Eater who perhaps recruited some or all of your characters. That NPC Bound has since, for whatever reason, died or left the krewe, leaving your characters to carry it on.
