Stray Dogs Episode 3 - Day of Freedom

May 12, 2016 7:46 pm
While checking in with the crime lord Jorbo, whom the crew of the Ronin are in servitude to for the purchase of their ship, they encounter a desperate miner who has a job for them - Rescue some imprisoned miners held in slavery by what are believed to be forces of the Mazuran Empire - in a section of space deemed neutral territory by the peace treaty between the Empire and the League of Free Worlds.

The crew of the Ronin are to land on the windy, dusty planet of Tarnara and make their way to a mining colony. There they will find a group of enslaved miners and their well armed and armored captors. The mine produces talium, a volatile substance used in the making of fuels and explosives.

There are 4 mine shafts, each protected by a barracks, one miner billet, a storage facility, an HQ (including subspace radio array) and even a tavern on the premises.
May 12, 2016 9:53 pm
S'skaar punches in the coordinate for the landing, some distance away form the compound, just like their employers had suggested.

"I think we should switch to passive scanners: no need to loudly announce our arrival... Keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary."
May 12, 2016 10:02 pm
"Copy that. Switching the Ronin's scanners to passive mode." Hotwire makes the switch, and adjusts his helmet scanners as well.
May 13, 2016 12:59 am
"Well that was a breeze. Passengers, hope you had a great flight, you can leave complaints in the box by the exit. These will be completely ignored". He turns around and sighs... land.

"Good, they haven't spotted us..."

Grabbing his gear and checking it, making sure his respiratory filters are in working order.

"Alright grunts, let's go save some miners!"
May 13, 2016 8:00 pm
Hotwire checks and re-checks his gear and waits for everyone to get ready before lowering the ramp.
May 13, 2016 8:06 pm
Tchok sits and waits patiently, patting Soupy's head.
May 19, 2016 1:59 pm
Kalerik finds a gully that the Ronin will fit snugly into and sets her down. The ship's front view port makes it clear that Tarnara is indeed a dark, dusty, windy place. The winds whip through the canyon leading out of the gully. Sensors show that the air is breathable, but the particle count is high, making a breathing mask or wrapping and goggles a good idea.
May 19, 2016 2:49 pm
S'skaar turns to chuck.

"Chuck, I know talking is more your style, so maybe you should stay behind in the Ronin, look out after the old girl while we're gone, and maybe keep an eye out for trouble on the sensors. If we need of you, we'll give you a call. Alright grunts, move out!"

S'skaar will lower the access ramp and, being the medic, wait for the heavier members of the team to go first.
OOC:
That ought to prevent using Chuck as a DMPC until Grendel comes back.
May 19, 2016 2:58 pm
Hotwire re-checks the seal in his respiratory filters, gives S'skaar a thumbs up, and moves down the ramp.
May 19, 2016 3:14 pm
Kalerik loiters around the door of the ship. "Ummmm... grunts? So that means I stay... right?"
May 19, 2016 6:37 pm
"That means you too celery boy. I hope you're not thinking of using that chainsword of yours again. I swear, if you end chopping yourself again, I'm planting what's left of you in a pot and keeping you as a house plant!"
May 19, 2016 6:37 pm
Tchok puts on his breathing mask and heads out onto the surface as well.
May 19, 2016 7:54 pm
The wind is filled with bits of sand and dirt, it stings any exposed flesh a bit (no game effect) but you are able to walk. If you don't have communicators you'll have to yell to hear each other (especially within breath masks). You can see the lights of the mining colony to the North East... the ravine ahead should take you in the right direction.
May 19, 2016 8:22 pm
S'skaar will take out his radio and does a quick scan of the frequencies, see if he can pick up anything and also to find an unused frequency which he can use to communicate with the others.

Following along Kalerik looks offended at S'skaar. Kalerik shouts after him. "P-p-plant me? How about I put you in a Terrarium, buddy and feed you crickets. Lets see how you like that". Kalerik looks for any type of animal life, how do they survive here.
May 20, 2016 3:37 am
"So long as you keep that terrarium nice and warm, I'd quite like it. Crickets are my favourite food, especially Tau Ceti IV crickets... hmm, plump and juicy, quite the delicacy from where I come from... Now shush, I'm tying to listen to the radio..."
May 20, 2016 12:25 pm
S'skaar finds a scrambled comms channel. There is occasional chatter on it, but he can't make it out. After a while, he seems to have found a channel not being used, suitable for communication.

Kalerik looks around and sees a bit of scrub here and there (Please make a MND+IN check, too)
May 20, 2016 3:43 pm
Kalerik mumbles something about eating "soil" and looks around for life.

S'skaar will turn around to the rest of the group and show them the frequency he found on his radio. Shouting over the wind.

"Alright, they don't seem to be using that frequency, so we can use it to communicate via radio. But since we don't know if they do frequent radio sweep, we should use it only if it is absolutely necessary."

Kalrik finds some fairly large tracks that could be insectoid in nature. If he had to guess they'd be the size of a large dog.
May 20, 2016 9:53 pm
Kalerik scratches his head. Adjusting his hat he turns to S'skaar, "Uh, hey, man... err lizard, there are some large footprints, like those of a bug. They're just bigger, a lot bigger". Kalerik continues to keep a look out for any insects that look bigger than normal.
OOC:
Tell me if you need me to roll again, the only thing that changed is that Kalerik is on high alert.

S'skaar looks at the tracks Kalerik found. then shouting again over the wind.

"Okay, also keep an eye out for hostile wildlife. Apparently there are big bugs here. Hopefully, they've learned to avoid people around here, but it's better to stay alert just in case..."
May 21, 2016 12:12 am
Kalerik looks around franticly and then shouts ahead "Wait... what?... thugs? There's thugs here too? S'skaar we apparently also have giant bugs see over there, the foot prints!"
May 21, 2016 12:14 pm
OK, what is your marching order/ Who's in front, etc?
May 21, 2016 1:42 pm
OOC:
Well, I'm a fightey type of dude,
So we should probably have one of those on our front, and another on covering our rear. I can take either of those positions if the group wants.
May 21, 2016 2:00 pm
OOC:
I'd suggest Saru first, followed by Kalerik, then me in the middle (the medic, I need to be able to reach everyone as equally as possible...), then Hotwire, then Tchok closing the march. How's that sounds?
May 21, 2016 4:55 pm
Following closely behind Saru, Kalerik keeps his thumb on the throttle of his chainsword.
Jun 2, 2016 1:51 pm
The group makes its way through the winding ravine. There's little to see other than rock and dust. Finally, it spills out onto a rockcrete paved courtyard. There are three buildings and a service vehicle, along with misc. drums and barrels. There is no sign of anyone outside.

MAP
Jun 2, 2016 2:12 pm
S'skaar will compare their position to the map he was given to see what those buildings are supposed to be.
Jun 2, 2016 2:44 pm
M3 is definitely an entrance into the mine.

Q2 is clad in thick rockcrete with gun ports on the blast doors. Atop is a landing pad (H)

B3 is a shanty looking barracks type building.

There are two tracked vehicles and one pickup truck type wheeled vehicle.
Jun 2, 2016 2:59 pm
S'skaar will signal the group to pay attention to him. He will point at the larger building and point to his weapon while writing "soldiers" on the ground. Then he will point to the shanty building and write "barracks" on the ground, and then point to the closest building and write "mine" on the ground. He will then erase what the wind hasn't already erased moments later.
Jun 2, 2016 2:59 pm
Tchok looks to see if there's any recent tracks or obvious signs that the machines are in working order if needed.

S'skaar will point towards the area between the well-protected large building and the mine entrance and pantomime looking around a corner to relay to the rest of the group that this area seems to be the best place to take a peek...
Jun 8, 2016 1:35 pm
The group carefully makes their way into the courtyard, using cover where possible. The door to the mine shaft is sealed. There is a palm scanner beside the door. Perhaps they do not run shifts of workers in the evening?
Jun 8, 2016 2:38 pm
Hotwire walls up to the palm scanner, prices the cover panel free, and hotwires the door. With a wink to the others he opens it.

Hotwire, always technologically focused, sees a security camera on the ceiling in the far corner.
Jun 8, 2016 6:32 pm
Hotwire points the camera out to the others silently and tries to scoot out of of its field of vision. He looks around for the cables so he can hijack the signal and feed it a loop.
Jun 8, 2016 6:37 pm
It's aimed at the door, so most likely Hotwire was on camera already. He moves underneath it. There are some wires going into the wall directly beneath it. but it would be a bit of a stretch for him to reach.
Jun 11, 2016 7:27 pm
S'skaar lays flat against the wall, out of the way of the camera as soon as he notices what Hotwire is actually doing...

"Frak! Well, I hope they're not constantly monitoring their surveillance feed..."

He then signals the rest of the group to be on the lookout for possible trouble.
Jun 11, 2016 7:39 pm
Kalerik smiles, "And if they are, lets hope that they think we are the interplanetary pizza delivery guys". His voice drips with sarcasm.
"Both are slim chances".
