Louis stands sentry by the door while Inquisitor checks the room, hopefully preventing anyone from sneaking up and locking the door behind them all again. He doubts they have much chance of surprising anyone after the racket they made in the last two rooms, but he follows Inquisitor’s direction nevertheless and does his best to remain quiet and alert.

Once Inquisitor gives the all-clear, Louis gestures to the double doors with the intertwining snakes. "After you, Inquisitor. Let’s not keep our new friend waiting."

Gharn nods and steps into the room with his mirrored shield up.

He conjures an illusion of a small highlands hound and sends it running across the room.

The illusionary hound bounds across the room, but doesn’t seem to cause any sort of reaction from anything in the room.
Seeing this ,Inquisitor makes his way to the door at the far end of the room. Weaving his way through the statues in the dim candle light, doing his best to be on alert for anything he might have missed in the darkness.
Then just as he reaches the large double doors…
A faint pressure pushes against the edge of a joint in Inquisitors armor making an audible clank.
Inquisitor catches on of the smaller statues hidden in the darkness scrambling back into the shadows before going completely still. Counting on the darkness and the minor nature of the failed attack to conceal it.
Inquisitor can see in the dark, and is not amused.

Standing guard by the door, Louis perks up at the sudden movement from the shadows. "What was that?"

Chariot: Between the darkness and the mirror gazing you can only tell the general area of the thing that made a move on Inquisitor. If you choose not o fire upon it, it’ll be a shot in the dark.
Banshee: You follow Inquisitor’s gaze to the short outline of the thing in the dark. It’s standing stock still, waiting for someone else to make a moving. Seeming to hope nobody noticed.

Gharn makes a gesture, signaling his companions to take the other way around and try to get to their hiding adversary.

He begins to walk around leisurely, looking like he's admiring the statues, but he slowly closes in. Suddenly, he pauses and simply says "Gotcha bugger". - his mystical eye flashes and the floor beneath their ambusher liquifies and instantly solidifies, holding whoever it was in place.

He raises his sword and growls: "You poked?"
OOC:
need a roll for this?

Though he’s not exactly sure which statue is actually the ambusher, Louis steps forward to block the door, cutting off a potential escape route should their enemy give Inquisitor the slip.

The creature startles at Inquisitor’s yell, causing it to trip over its own feet in the instant the stone floor transforms to mud. This leaves it unable to leap away from the trap and ankle deep in the floor.
It struggles to free itself to no avail, and does not seem keen to answer Inquisitor.
Faux, seeing the threat effectively neutralized grabs one of the candles and sheds some light on it.
The creature is humanoid, completely wrapped in rags that cover all of its skin along with a large hood to hide its face. It’s only about waist high to Inquisitor with spindly limbs. Making it look a bit awkward as if it wasn’t finished growing quite yet.
It is currently trying to use a small bronze dagger to chip away at the stone binding it’s feet. Without any success. It’s grunts of exertion are faintly hiss like.

Gharn slowly approaches, his sword faintly glowing.
OOC:
readied action:

"Quit playing with not-so-sharp things before you get hurt. By me. Show yourself. Slowly.
His low growling and now not-so-hidden tusks, along with his raised sword made clear that Gharn wasn't to take much shit.
The Manor has been giving him shit aplenty already, and his patience was running low.
OOC:
shitty intimidation roll. Meh.

The creature freezes at the threat, slowly placing its knife on the floor beside it.
With slow deliberate movements, it reaches for its hood and slips it off its head.
What lies beneath is a surprise. A mop of shaggy black hair conceals a lot of the top half of his face, but it is certainly the face of a young boy or what was once a young boy.
Scales cover the entirety of his neck and jawline, his eyes are slitted and reptilian. It’s clear he was once human, but no longer.
He stares at Inquisitor awaiting the next order.
Dec 17, 2022 11:53 pm
Louis sighs and holsters his pistols. He’s not about to shoot a kid. Joining Inquisitor on the other side of the room, he crosses his arms and asks the boy, "Can you speak?"
Dec 20, 2022 3:08 am
The little snake gremlin nods his head, but makes no move to speak. Only eyeing Inquisitor and Chariot with extreme wariness.
Dec 21, 2022 12:06 pm
"Very good. In that case, perhaps you might like to explain to Inquisitor here why it is you decided his back would be a good place to put your dagger?" Louis speaks in a calm, neutral tone— almost friendly— though there is a subtle edge to his voice that suggests things could become very unfriendly very quickly if the kid were to make any stupid decisions.
