*CLOSED* - Iron Gods Campaign (PF1e)

Be sure to read and follow the guidelines for our forums.

In the town of Torch, the settlement's unignorable tower of violet flame has gone out. The only clue to its disappearance is a newly discovered cave dug nearby. Are the heroes bold enough to uncover the otherworldly secrets that sleep beneath the city and reignite the fires of Torch? Or will their first foray into Numeria's ancient mysteries be their last?

This will be a Pathfinder 1st edition campaign that will play through the Iron Gods Adventure Path from Paizo. The game is rated PG-13. Please keep that in mind when creating and playing your character.

Character Creation Rules:
* Generate a 1st level Pathfinder 1e character based on 15 points.
* No evil alignments.
* Races permitted are aasimar, catfolk, drow, dwarf, elf, gnome, half-elf, half-orc, halfling, human, ifrit, oread, ratfolk, sylph, tengu, tiefling, or undine.
* Classes are those found in any Paizo book except Occult Adventures.
* Players should read the Iron Gods Player's Guide, found for free at Paizo's web site.
* You may have two traits, one of which must be from the aforementioned book.
* You may draw from any non-3rd party source (i.e., Pathfinder books from Paizo) except those relating to Occult Adventures.

Game Duration and Post Frequency: It is my intent to run this game until the Adventure Path is completed. I am aiming for three posts per week. However, and I will be upfront here, my wife is blind and I serve as her eyes. Her needs come first. If I am going to be gone for an extended period, I will try to give a warning, but don't get discouraged if I am a few days late in posting.

The game is open to anyone, but I will be reviewing applications in this thread. Post your character here (an alias is not necessary until you are chosen) and I will select six people to join the game, sending them an invitation when they are chosen.

I'll definitely toss my hat in . I'll work on a character concept and post it here.

Can confirm it's a good ap, have run before. (Otherwise would be throwing my own hat in the ring)

I'll apply too, sounds fun! Thanks for running it, WhtKnt.
Aug 10, 2021 10:53 pm
I would love to play WhtKnt, I will be submitting a Dwarven Advance Weapon Training Fighter. Will come up with a background shortly

I'm also interested. I have concepts for an undine swashbuckler or a tengu kensai (I promise it won't be a weeaboo samurai with the numbers filed off lol).

Always interested in Pathfinder, and this AP sounds fascinating.

I'll go with a Fighter and take the Local Ties story trait.

I have a Cleric (Iron Priest, Ecclesitheurge) of Nethys. Here's a semblance of a backstory for starters, I'll invest more detail in case I get picked.

Chracter sheet: Korgar Skyglass
https://i.ibb.co/58Zyfdr/Korgar.jpg
Iron Gods Trait: Stargazer
Concept: non-martial scholar cleric of Nethys, focused on technology and engineering

Backstory
Born to a Numerian tribe, Korgar was the younger smaller, and weaker child of the family.
He was constantly dismissed and mocked by his peers and tribe, he had no passion to pursue his family's lifestyle of hunting and battling along the plains of Numeria. Korgar was a dreamer, he always felt that he had little in common with his family.

His tribe was a nomad tribe, and frequently fought other tribes and the creations of the Technic League. One day, after his tribe was trapped and forced to a furious battle against a large mechanical spider, Korgar felt useless, and he was both terrified and marveled at the machine that could bring forth such destruction, and possessed so much power.

Without his family knowing, he went back during the night to the field of battle to scavenge parts and tinker with them in secret. He thought that his power could come from the same source.
He had a curious intellect, and seemed like his hands would instinctively guide him to the correct parts and to find the correct sequence to assemble and connect different components. Little did he know that Nethys was guiding his hand, curious about this odd creature that had come to the world.

When found by his tribe, they were furious. He was of no use to the tribe, and he dared to use the same devices and their enemies. Against his family's wishes, he was cast out. With no family, no tribe, no temple or church to follow, he had only his belief.

Frail, he wandered the plains of Numeria. He saw the beasts of the Technic League roaming in the distance, he saw the rival tribes, who would enslave him or kill him without thinking, but Nethys looked to him, his faith kept him from harm.

One night he saw trailing in the night sky a white line. Then another, and another, all going in the same direction.
Something inside him told him he had to follow.
He followed the stars during the night, rested during the day until he arrived at the Torch.

Built around what seemed a holy fire, this mismatch of tribes cultures, and people made him feel at home, so Korgar settled in.

He found odd jobs to keep him busy and to pay for food and shelter. He had a good eye for machines and felt at home, taking them apart for scraps to then sell to the smiths in the Torch. He always believed he was destined for a greater cause, he just waited for it to crystalize.

Khonnir Baine was a big name in town and on a few occasions, Korgar interacted with him, buying off scraps to experiment with his smelting techniques, even chipping in building the water system for the town. He admired Khonnir Baine and what he did to the town of Torch and it awakened in him a desire to help and be part of this community.

One night, Nethys came to Korgar in a dream, and Korgar was awestruck. It all became clear to him, and he understood why he had never felt at home in his tribe and family. His heritage lied dormant for generations, only to appear suddenly in the child of two human parents. He was aasimar, and he had been chosen to pursue a greater purpose.

On waking up, he had this certainty that his purpose involved these machines, and he dedicated himself fully to his intellectual pursuits.

In machines, Korgar saw magic, and he believes that engineering and technology are the manifestations of Nethys

Thinking of making a gunslinger. I've never played one and it seems that it would fit well within the themes of the AP

A gunslinger would make a great fit!

Am going with an Against the League Dwarven Fighter, possibly a Foehammer, still researching the Archetype. The league is responsible for the deaths of my parents. I am better coming up with something on the fly for anything more than that.

I think I'm going to either make a bard or a skald, Feeling like a potentially martial heavy party and some support may be warranted.

Here is my entry! Went with a Tiefling Magus, pretty happy with the build overall. I will add a full item list later, if chosen. I will also work out my backstory, personality, and appearance stuff when able.

This is my attempt at completing a Bard. No backstory written so far but I have a fair bit in mind if picked. The only issue I found is that I plan on being middle-aged and I don't know if that will matter in any way or not.

I hope that it won't upset anyone, or cause too much issue, but on consideration, I think that we will use the Elephant in the Room feat tax rules for this one unless there is mass objection.

Your link to the webpage was pasted twice, so it doesn't work. Might want to fix the link :)

Also, thank god you're using this. So much better this way

I am definitely on board with this - ty for using it! I'll update my character sheet accordingly.

Throwing my hat in as well if it's not too late. I'd like to play a Half-Orc Witch (Scarred Witch Doctor) who is Against the Technic League.

Also, I see you're using Elephant in the Room, are we also using Background Skills?

Out of curiosity can you link to the background skills?
Aug 18, 2021 3:31 pm
I definitely can! I have it bookmarked cause I never remember which are which.

Background Skills.

It basically just gives you two free skill ranks/level in skills that would mostly be not -that- useful during the game, or background type stuff. Craft, Perform, Profession, some Knowledges, etc. It doesn't make them class skills, just gives the ranks. It's there to help give classes with lower skill points some options, so like, fighters can have skills more than just Climb and Swim, and have more flavour.

I also really like this optional rule

Not to put undo pressure. But I do as well. It encourages RP skills in a format (pbp) which really benefits from them.

If you guys want to use Background Skills, I'm game.

+1 to this. But, tbh I'd be happy to play regardless :)
Aug 19, 2021 4:54 am
Cool! And yeah, I'd play without it, I just like the boost it gives to the lower skill classes. Especially in a 15 point buy where you don't have as many points to throw around.

admittedly I was struggling a bit in adding intelligence to a cleric so he had all the knowledge and this fixes some of it. Thanks for bringing it up

Name: Elizi Vanogur
Gender: Female
Race: Half-Orc
Class: Witch (Scarred Witch Doctor)
Alignment: Neutral Good
Role in Party: Arcane Spellcaster/Debuffer

Background

Elizi was born to a pair of half-orc slaves that had escaped from the clutches of the Technic League, and were hiding in and among some of the barbarian tribes of the land for several years, until she was a teenager. Their past had caught up with them, as slavers who worked for the Technic League had found the group they were living with at present, intent on taking the whole lot of them in as slaves. Her parents Andrar and Mesli didn't want the same fate to befall anyone else, so, they fought off the party of slavers while everyone else fled. The old shaman of the village taking a tearful Elizi out of there as the two most able bodied, the former slaves tried to drive them off. It ended in a double loss, both sides succumbing to wounds before they could escape. Which, was really the second best thing that could have happened, as there was no one to try and give chase to them after this. This is where Elizi's true hatred of the Technic League crystalized. She had heard about them, but never actually experienced them for herself.

The shaman K'leshtau took her in as his own, raising her the rest of the way. He trained her in the ways of communicating with the spirits, and gave her ritualistic tattoos to help protect her even further, his surrogate daughter. He passed away about 4 years ago, the 'tribe' having been reduced to just the pair of them over that time. Now, it was just her. She took his mask as his parting gift. As she put it on for the first time, it changed shape in a subtle way, modifying its outward appearance to more match her. Left on her own, Elizi decided to move to Torch, the spirits telling her that was the best place for her to be. Living there, she set up a small herbalism shop, helping the people that she could with her knowledge and magic.

When Torch's flame was extinguished, she consulted with the spirits to see who was responsible, but they weren't able to tell her. She was fairly certain though, that it was the Technic League, since that flame was the only thing keeping their town from being completely under their boot.

Personality

Elizi is an amazingly bright woman, by any standard. The stereotype of a dumb half-orc could not be further from the truth with her. Her upbringing has left her wanting to do good in Numeria, to try and counter the evil and invasive tendrils of the Technic League, to try and let good flourish instead of their monopolistic greed. Her appearance may be scary, especially with her mask and ritual dagger with a wicked looking blood red blade and a ruby in the pommel, but she is a very kind soul that is much happier to proscribe someone a remedy for what ails them than use that knife for a blood sacrifice.

Okay, we have five character submissions and six slots. Whoever can get their character done first, from among Rizzoxiii, Squadfather, and Nezzeraj, can have the remaining slot. (If your character is already done and posted and I just missed it, please feel free to correct me.) The rest of you will receive invitations shortly.
