Aaxi realized he should never have come into the camp. He would have been better off starving. But once he got over being angry, and a cooler head prevailed, he knew that there was strength in numbers, so he succumbed to the blindfold, but vowed revenge for being put in such a demeaning position.

OOC:
Does anyone want to do or say anything, or am I ok to push forward? As for the next step, I'll take it wherever you want to go, but you're basically about to apply for a job. What can you collectively offer the militia to convince them of your sincerity?

OOC:
All good here -- nothing further to add until we get to the camp, see some higher-ups, etc.

OOC:
I'm ok to move on, too. I apologize for falling a little bit behind. I haven't felt well the past couple of days and somehow didn't realize that it had been as long as it has since I last checked in.

OOC:
We can move on.

Deprived of your eyes, you can only follow along with your remaining senses. There's movement all around you, and smell of campfires slowly burning out. Before long, gentle hands help you along, and offer you a cord to hold onto. The trip is full of stumbling, but the pace is manageable, but the rain falls on cue. You're all drenched in minutes, and even though you can't see them, so is everyone else in the makeshift caravan.

Through the din of the storm, you can hear voices in the distance, and the pace feels like it's picked up a bit.

Tired, wet, and a little cold from the rain you're ushered into some kind of shelter. You know this immediately because there's no rain falling on you, but the drops are hitting a roof above you. It's then that your blindfolds are removed. You're in a small shelter that has been crudely put together and is just big enough to let you all fit, but no one else. Several people offer you some food, water, and dry blankets. You're told to wait, and there will be some others to come and speak with you as you'd requested before setting out.

You have no idea where you are, or you might meet. However, there's a strong possibility that you could by chance run into former acquaintances from the city.

Swaneke isn't with you, but Arnd is. It isn't clear when you were separated.
OOC:
Before your hosts arrive, does anyone want to do anything?

Arden blinks as his blindfold is finally taken off, looking around to get some idea of where they've been taken.
OOC:
Are we essentially inside a windowless wooden shed? Earthen floor? Are we five the only ones present, is there a pack of captives in here, or some where in-between? Are there gaps in the boards, any way to see out?

Phineas allowed himself to be guided, grateful that those who were leading them did so patiently. Apart from being caught in the rain, it wasn't an unpleasant march. Although wet or not, it would have been nice to be able to take in the scenery.

"Thank you," Phineas said to the person who removed his blindfold. "Who is it that will be coming to speak with us, please?", he asked. "Their rank will suffice if you aren't comfortable telling us their name. I'd just like to know how they should be addressed."
OOC:
I can't think of anything, but the answers to Harrigan's questions may change that.

I don't suppose that the rain, or being soaking wet, caused the blindfolds to slip at any point that may have revealed a glimpse of our surroundings before someone fixed them?

Once the blindfolds come off you see that from within the structure it basically just looks like something that was crudely put together. As much for seeking shelter from a storm as it might be for storage or protecting things from exposure to the weather. It's primary wood, with only an earth floor. Everything looks to have been fairly recently built. There could be enough space for a fire, but there's no space in the roof for the smoke to exit, and there are no signs that anyone else has made in here at any point. You still have your weapons, but no gear at this point. Your "hosts" appear to have relieved you of that.
OOC:
In my mind, this qualifies as a "shanty" or "lean-to", basically just an ad-hoc structure that is thrown together at short notice. Very much purpose-built. There are no windows, and the people who removed your blindfolds have left. We could fairly comfortably say there are gaps in the boards. Only the PCs are present. No one saw anything with regards to their surroundings, but if anyone tried to measure distance, perhaps by trying to measure distance as you walked, we could make a check, with a penalty, to see if it worked.

OOC:
What about Phineas' question of who would be coming to talk to us?
"Men, and lady. At this point, since they are doing us no real harm and have even left us our weapons, as humiliating as it is, we might learn more about these people and then get a better sense of what some of us might want to do. I've cooled down a bit to let common sense prevail. For now. That may change. But we are among them and might learn more if we can gain their trust. That's a big if though."

"As far as Swaneke is concerned, I could give a rat's ass about that one."

"And as far as Emil goes, we don't know much about him either and these lot won't give us an impartial opinion. So that's still an unknown."

Arden walks to the roughly-constructed wooden wall as Aaxi muses aloud, trying to see outside. Putting his hand on his sword's pommel, he tries to get the lay of the land, the camp, and the number of gathered loyalists.

"That is true, Aaxi, and my mind is still open enough to listen to his side of the story. I also am glad that you are more calm, now," Phineas comments. "I will only say this about Enid. I haven't seen anything that I could point to and use, by itself as undeniable proof that his revolution wasn't justified. On the other hand, I have only seen one thing that even hints that it might be justified. That one thing is Swaneke, and unfortunately, I can't bring myself to trust his judgment."

"I freely admit that I haven't been here long enough to form an opinion on the politics yet, but so far I haven't seen any evidence that suggests that anyone I have encountered, other than Swaneke, might recently have been a victim of a corrupt, neglectful, or harmful regime. None of those who brought us here have that look about them. Neither did anyone at the farm we visited. None of the four of you have expressed any complaints, either."

For as long as it took you all to get here, it's surprising how many people you can see. There wasn't much sign of a settlement of any sort from the road, but you had to walk less than a day to get here, and you can't see the whole place.

The time passes quietly while you wait, but it isn't long. Two women and a man come in to greet you all.

"Hello, my name is Brida," a woman of average build. She appears to have not bathed in a couple of days and her hands and arms are tattooed with dirty smudges from who knows what kind of work. "You asked to speak to someone, and here we are."

"I am Chriscona," says the other woman, and the man follows up saying, "I'm called Islo."

They all appear to be all business and have the strained appearance of people who are overworked.

"What is it that you'd like to discuss?" Brida asks. "We have some time for you. Please, make yourselves comfortable." and with that, she sits on the ground and gestures for you to do the same.
OOC:
There was a question about titles, which is a good question, but this isn't a formal society. It's just a band of what is mostly displaced peasants looking to push back at Emil's usurpation.

The scope of the settlement to which the group had been taken, once revealed, was beyond anything Phineas had imagined. He tried to estimate how many people lived in this... place, but he would need to find a place that offered a view of its entirety. He didn't know whether to call it a camp or a city. That it had sprung up quickly was evident from the lack of permanent structures and the way it blended into the terrain, rather than just covering it. It had a quality about it that gave him the impression that he was looking at a city that was trying to take root.

The trio who approached to speak with them was not what he was expecting, either. He had expected to find whatever was left of the former regime here, but if there were any nobles among the people he could see, they were well disguised. He smiled at the three as they introduced themselves and hoped that he had kept his surprise from showing. He stepped forward and introduced himself before joining them.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," he said. "My name is Phineas. I am a Cleric of Justitia, sent by Her Holy Court to mediate a disagreement between the Duke and some aggrieved faction that recently appeared and was sweeping through the region like a brush fire.

I arrived yesterday and was met on the road by these good people,"
he gestured at his companions. "They tell me that I am too late to prevent a rebellion, but perhaps I can help to restore peace."
Oct 23, 2021 3:58 am
"Well, we woud welcome anything you might offer for the sake of re-establishing peace," says Brida. "We didn't know any representing Justitia was on their way. I don't know if would have changed much, but at east it means that perhaps the previous regime had some idea of what was coming. It was a complete surprise for almost everyone.

"You're comparison is a good one, y hoy friend, says Chriscona. "Were frustrated with how things were previously, but no one really believed it ever could have led to a revolt of any kind, but here we are...Most of you are wearing Emi's colors, but profess to have been coerced into helping him. There are others like you here. We'd like to think that Emil doesn't have quite as much supporters as he believes he does. All we want is this conflict to go away. And you all?

Islo stays silent, but Arnd is nodding in solemn agreement almost the whole time.
