Character Creation

Let's have our Session Zero. Talk about what you want to play. Don't worry about having a "balanced party". What story do you want to tell through your character?
Got any questions? Go ahead and ask them.
Don't think of this as WoW the MMO. Think of this as more like D&D in Azeroth.
We can do dungeon delving, heavy RP, general questing, intrigue, I'm even a little open to parody if that's what everyone wants.
May 21, 2016 1:14 am
What I would love to do RPing in Azeroth is getting involved in Alliance vs Horde stuff. The philosophical differences between the two brought to life. But maybe a mixed party, brought together for common cause, would really bring that home.
May 21, 2016 1:23 am
That's an interesting idea, Qralloq. I think I'll need to do some more reading for that, but I also think there's a lot of prejudice and old grudges that are either the base or at least the fuel for the racial/faction tension.
This brings me to something I'm considering. If we all would like, we could have solo threads to get the characters started and bring them together more naturally. Does that sound like something we would like to do? (Also directed at anyone posting after this.)
May 21, 2016 6:08 am
The solo thread idea is neat. Some backstory and interaction to flesh out backgrounds. In a long, complex game that is a great idea. But if you're planning something shorter, then it may be a complication.
May 21, 2016 10:49 am
I'm planning to run this as long as people play. I got the solo thread idea from the game I got the conversion from.
May 22, 2016 1:38 am
It's been a couple years since I've played WoW, but I'm looking at the Tinkerer as a class. What races are going to gel for that class besides Gnomes?
May 22, 2016 1:50 am
Goblins, most definitely. Dwarves as well (Not so much Wildhammer, but it's still possible.) Any other could work, but it'd be interesting to explain how they got into it.
May 22, 2016 11:57 pm
I forgot to mention what we're doing for stat rolls. I'm gonna say take the highest of 4d6, arranged how you want. While I think 3d6 can make for some interesting RP, Azeroth is a dangerous place full of powerful characters.
May 23, 2016 1:04 am
Hey guys, glad to be a part of this. Personally, I like the idea of the solo threads for some background development. It would also give all of us a better idea of each others' characters. I'm leaning heavily towards a Troll Priest (preferring either Shadow or Discipline, although I wouldn't be against Holy).

In regards to what I want from this game, I'm down for pretty much any kind of play. Most of the games I've played previously have been more "roll"-playing than anything else. I definitely agree with the group being involved in the struggle between the two factions, even if we aren't actually aligned with one of them.

If we're talking about concepts, I was leaning toward an arcane mage or Warlock, probably orc or nelf. For an orc, he would be seeking to avenge a raid that killed his family by making a pact with terrible beings.

May 23, 2016 7:23 am
Cool, so far you're all liking the faction struggle idea. Yet to hear from xjremon though.

@mrnemo636 - A Troll priest works. Those who follow the Shadow are kinda akin to Warlocks. Most priests are protectors of their people. I'm not sure what you're thinking of backstory yet, but perhaps your Troll is like Qralloq's character - making a pact with or devoting self to other powers out for vengeance.

@Qralloq - You say arcane mage but then making pacts with "terrible beings". Do you mean a Warlock? An orc Warlock is totally doable. Most of those are against Thrall and the Horde, but then again most Warlocks see their powers/demons as merely tools. A Night Elf Warlock is very hard to swallow. After what they experienced with the Burning Legion 10,000 yrs ago, Night Elves are very much against arcane magic. There are the exiled Highborne (Night Elf arcane casters who were once the upper class) who very few didn't leave Kalimdor and become High Elves.
May 23, 2016 12:52 pm
Right, I had meant to be ambivalent between mage and Warlock but missed two important words (now edited into post above). Love orcs, added nelf for diversity tokenism alliance race because I couldn't bring myself to type h u m a n, bleh. (A human would be okay though).
May 23, 2016 1:50 pm
Haha! Don't worry about token races. Play what you want.
It looks lore we might have an Orc Warlock, Troll Priest, some sort of Tinkerer, and xjremon was thinking about either a Dwarven sword and board warrior or Elven dual wielder. This is sounding exciting!
May 23, 2016 7:38 pm
Howdy folks! I always played one character back in my WoW days, and that was my prized possession named Basperron, the Night Elf holy priest. I will play that same character here if and only if MrNemo636 would welcome some class competition. However, I'm also interested in playing a protector of the people as a Dwarven shield-wielder. Oh, he would also have a warhammer. Definitely leaning toward the Dwarf.

I also like the solo thread backstory idea, as it would give the group a great chance at getting to know the characters more deeply. It would also allow me to become more accustomed with this forum... posting... thing. I'm pretty new and shiny here.

Also, I work part-time in addition to a full-time gig, so sometimes you might not hear from me for a day or two. Unique_exemplar will have the joy of yelling at me at that time.

Rolls

To end world hunger - (1D20+4)

(8) + 4 = 12

May 23, 2016 7:42 pm
Damn straight I'll yell at you.

"Class competition" sound intriguing. Two priest of presumably vastly different philosophies... Oh boy.
Dwarven warrior or night elf priest, whatever you want and will have fun with.

Continue discussing your characters. When you get them all written out, submit them for approval and post your backstory here. I'll create a thread for each character then.
May 23, 2016 9:12 pm
Hi all,

I've always loved playing blood elves, normally playing either Mage or Rouge. I'm not sure which I'd like to choose though...
May 23, 2016 9:28 pm
Hi Genisisect. A Blood Elf would work just fine here. At this time, they were just rebranded Sin'Dorei and after their falling out with the Alliance a few years ago, they're petitioning for acceptance into the Horde. If Xjremon plays his Night Elf... oh boy this will be interesting. As far as what class you play, I leave that totally up to you. I'll run this with all casters if that's what you guys want to play.
May 23, 2016 9:42 pm
I've sketched up my orc warlock, but still need to roll stats and pick spells.

Rolls

6 stat rolls - (4d6, 4d6, 4d6, 4d6, 4d6, 4d6)

4d6 : (3144) = 12

4d6 : (2631) = 12

4d6 : (1514) = 11

4d6 : (3311) = 8

4d6 : (4144) = 13

4d6 : (3563) = 17

May 23, 2016 9:46 pm
Okay, that's 11,11,10,7,13,14. 14 is Cha, 11s Str and Sta, 13 is spirit, 7 int, 10 dex
May 23, 2016 9:49 pm
I don't remember the racial bonuses for Orcs, but don't forget those. For my own curiosity, what background are you taking?
May 23, 2016 9:52 pm
Str+2, Sta+1. Background was going to be charlatan, but I dump statted int, so I'll repick. Leaning toward Sailor, which appeals to me.

Gazam Deadwolf was a sailor in the Horde navy, running the coastal run Orgrimmar to Ratchet, aboard the Felhammer. After a raid ("work complete"), when he returned to his clan farmland, the place had been raided and torched. He blamed the alliance, even though most told him it was likely centaurs.

He ran off and joined the Burning Blade in Skull Rock. After his initial trials and training, he fled because they were uninterested in assisting his revenge against either the alliance or the centaurs.
Last edited May 23, 2016 10:11 pm

Ok, but I wouldn't say you necessarily need INT to be a Charlatan. Charisma's where it's at! Smooth talk them into whatever you want.
May 23, 2016 11:01 pm
I was thinking of an undead tinkerer. A human in life he found he had a knack for rebuilding the machines his small village needed to survive another winter. Sadly, he no sooner began studying in earnest than the plague struck him down. Upon rising again, his skills were noted and put to work building war machines.
If that's a valid combo, if not I'll happily come up with something else
May 23, 2016 11:28 pm
Sounds good, Ceadron. The transformation to undead certainly twists things so I like the change from machines for survival to war machines. Have you looked over the rules for tinkering/engineering/etc? I admit I glazed over them, but I will certainly study them now. Something that's always bugged me about crafting in D&D is how long it takes. I understand it's more realistic, but this is a game for crying out loud! I'll be tweaking crafting times for sure. As for you background, I'm gonna guess something like ... guild artisan? Might take some tweaking, but it sounds like a possibility. But hey, pick what you want. I like that the background is like who you were/what you did before your current class.
May 23, 2016 11:33 pm
I haven't done more than skim them yet. But my main was an engineer back in vanilla, so i felt that I should continue the torch
May 23, 2016 11:52 pm
Haha! Sounds good. Engineering can be so expensive in WoW! When you get that all figured out, let us know.

Since it's such a recent event, what about everyone include what they did during the Third War. Humans ad Orcs might be young enough that they weren't doing much but growing up during that time, but that war only ended a few years ago and lasted a couple years. Certainly older lived races such as the elves, dwarves, gnomes, etc., remember it well.

Also, mrnemo636, since you mentioned Troll priest, I thought about the Loa they worship. Thought you might like this: http://wow.gamepedia.com/Loa
May 24, 2016 3:56 am
Well, looks like Shadow priest it is! Thanks, xjremon, for making my mind up for me, haha! I certainly don't mind a 2nd Priest, although if you're leaning more toward the dwarf, go for it. I'm sticking with Shadow. Thanks for the link, unique_exemplar! I've been trying to read up on lore and what little of Zandali I can find, so I'll be sure to include this. I started my character yesterday, but backstory and actual character stuff is my weak point. I takes me forever to come up with stuff. I've got a few ideas and should be able to finalize everything and submit a character sheet tomorrow, assuming I can get my starting weapons to actually save...

I've looked over the RPG docs a few times, but can't seem to find an answer. As a 1st level priest, it appears that I have access to 1st level spells, but how many? I know I get 3 cantrips. Does it go off of the D&D Cleric class table?

Here is what it states: "Each priest level provides you with 1 caster level in the priest class. You follow the normal progression to unlock spell levels (see the table under the Mana section). You prepare the list of priest spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from the priest spell list. You can also change your list of prepared spells by spending an hour in meditation and prayer."

Oops! Thanks for pointing that out, mrnemo636. D&D 5e rules say the number of known spells for divine spellcasters is your class level + spellcasting ability modifier. Let's go with that. When I changed the mana system, I must have forgotten that part. If you'd like any help with character backstory, send me a PM with what you have so far - even if it's just a loose concept. This goes to everyone. Backstory is something I've learned to love making.
May 24, 2016 8:19 am
I'm planning on going arcane Mage.

My character will be from Quel'Danas, a young acolyte of the sun well during the 3rd War. She survived the scourge invasion as she was visiting in Dalaran at the time. She returned to Quel'Thalas in the same party as Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider, and was shocked by the destruction she beheld and the longing of the withdrawal.

She was not amongst those who journeyed through the dark portal, instead remaining to try and help rebuild her shattered homeland.

I'm thinking Meridia Highstrider as a name.
May 24, 2016 10:59 am
Fantastic! Since you are playing a Blood Elf, let's talk about withdrawal. If you want, we can use withdrawal mechanics. If not, the daily struggle of being without the Sunwell can be purely RP. I don't want it to be a punishment for picking your race.
Since we're on the subject, arcane casters, do we want to include arcane corruption? There are some hefty rules from the 3e Warcraft RPG that if we decide to use, I will tone down. Thoughts?
May 24, 2016 11:22 am
Oh I read the withdrawal rules and it's go. There will also be some heavy to involved, I plan to have had Meridia almost become wretched, before clawing it back from the brink. She's now very careful about not relapsing again...

I would be willing to use the rules (or preferably some addaptation of them) for arcane corruption, but only if the other arcs it's are ok with that.
May 24, 2016 11:26 am
Awesome! I love that you're embracing that part of playing the character. Qralloq is the only other arcane caster (Warlock) that I know of.
May 24, 2016 1:20 pm
I love the sound of arcane corruption, so bring it on!
May 24, 2016 1:35 pm
Hey guys, what other documentation/reference material are you using for character creation, background information, etc.? I don't have either the D&D 5e books (will try to find one online tonight) or the WoW RPG book. Also, worst of all, my company blocks any file-sharing sites such as the Google Drive links shared by unique_exemplar for those two resources.

Besides the 5e player's handbook, I put the links to the OGL and WoW RPG conversion on the game page. That's all I can think if you'll need. I've looked, but there doesn't seem to be much PhB material online. I'll send whatever you need.
May 24, 2016 7:28 pm
Also, I've finally decided to play as Dormir Emberheart, protector of many, son of Theramir Emberheart, associate smithy of the Ironforge Metallurgy League, son of Malduin Emberheart, high priest of the Seven Sorrows; dwarven protection warrior (as if you hadn't caught on already).
May 24, 2016 7:41 pm
Nice lineage. I noticed you pick the Folk Hero background. Wanna tell us more about his backstory?
Also, once everyone has their characters written out, let me know if you have any preference for how your solo thread will start.

Dormir Emberheart, protector of many, son of Theramir Emberheart, associate smithy of the Ironforge Metallurgy League, son of Malduin Emberheart, high priest of the Seven Sorrows was born a normal mountain dwarf from Ironforge, practically born with a smithy's hammer in hand. Dormir's aforementioned father and grandfather instilled in him the morals and values of any average dwarven clan. The Emberhearts, male and female alike, were known for several generations in the dwarven city for their outstanding work as smiths. As Dormir came of age, he decided that his place in life was in the Reconnaisance, Recovery, and Rescue Battalion, more commonly known as the 3RB, an exploration-based deployment of the dwarven army assembled at the beginning of the Third War in order to discover potential allies who may not have the protection that the Great Alliance could provide from the Burning Legion. On one expedition, the 3RB ventured near Gnomeregan and discovered that the troggs had invaded the gnome city, and the 3RB made a daring choice to sneak into Gnomeregan to rescue any of the remaining citizens. During their mission, the 3RB met a school of young gnome students under attack by the troggs. Dormir was first to stand up to the troggs, standing between the group of students and the aggressors. After a long struggle, the 3RB emerged victorious but not unscathed. The remaining 3RB were able to escort the gnome students back to safe shelter in Ironforge. The students told tales of how Dormir stood alone against the troggs and was able to fend off the flayings with his mighty shield, and they donned Dormir with his title "Protector of many."
May 25, 2016 5:22 am
I'll just use the point by system out of the book, it's pretty well balanced. I'll try and get the sheet put together tonight....
May 25, 2016 7:31 am
Something I would like for you all to do is come up with a personal quest your character wants to accomplish. Make it something big. A reason to leave home.
Example: Tahlik Glimmer blade, the High Elf Rogue, desires precious stones of all kinds above all else. Jewels, gems, crystals, etc. He wants them all. Upon hearing of the Heart of the Mountain, a gem the size of your fist!, he journeys to find this gem and make it his by any means necessary.
May 25, 2016 7:32 am
Xjremon, nice work and that backstory. The 3RB sounds exactly like what would exist in WoW.
May 26, 2016 10:09 pm
Well no one has posted in over 24 hours. I understand real life can get in the way. How are your character sheets coming Genisisect and Ceadron? Need any help? Got any questions? Kinda afraid I'm asking a bit much for the Third War history, personal quest, etc.
May 26, 2016 10:56 pm
Sorry I've been having an intense few days...

I'm still mulling over my personal quest, but I should be able to start on the sheet.
May 27, 2016 12:50 am
I understand how that can be. I'm covering my for boss until she gets back a week from today, and she's already been gone since last Saturday.
The personal quest is part Get To Know Your Character, part Help The GM Figure Out What You're Gonna Do. When I have trouble writing (story, characters, etc.) I look for questionnaires online. I've found huge lists of questions to answer as your character. Something in there will usually lead to something about the character that expands more than I thought on my own.
If you want to submit your character before figuring out the quest, that's fine.
May 27, 2016 12:59 am
Don't want to leave you hanging. I'll post some stuff later on, mostly filler, to virtue signal if nothing else. 8)
May 27, 2016 1:16 am
I've been working 10 hour days the past few weeks (yay new job) I should have some kind of character sheet later tonight
May 27, 2016 1:29 am
Oh fun. Caedron, thanks for letting me know. I guess as long as got your character figured out, we'll be patient. Yours is the character I know the least about, so I'm pretty excited to know more.
May 27, 2016 2:46 am
I have a character sheet added, there are a couple details I need to add (mostly weapon stats and what Blueprints I know). As far as backstory goes, Third War is after Warcraft 3 but before WoW?
May 27, 2016 3:05 am
Sorry, been trying to check here every day, but found out I was scheduled off today and tomorrow, for a nice long weekend. Tried to not spend a lot of time on the computer today, lol. I'm still figuring out my personal quest, but should have something soon. Also, I still haven't been able to get weapons to save on my character sheet. I chose a handaxe and light crossbow.
May 27, 2016 4:54 am
Many of the Deadwolf clan served at sea. The pay was crap, but for a chance at honor, who wouldn't go? Gazam was no different than those before him. But until you're tested, how could you know if your worthy of glory?

The destroyer Sunburst rode low on the water. It was full of weapons, gunpowder and shot. Low and slow. While nominally at peace with Orgrimmar, the humans had no business landing troops on the coast. Command wanted the waters south of Ratchet free of their meddling. It always pays to have the goblins owe you one.

From high in the mast, Gazam could see Sunburst. He shouted down it's disposition. The faster Felhammer, lightly fitted and rigged for pursuit, closed in. High on the wind, pinning the slower ship against the rocky coast. Magefire rained on the water, but the heavy cannons of the Horde ship blazed on the prow. The force of the shot shook the ship, slowed it in the water.

Sunburst was limping, and so the Felhammer closed in. Gazam tucked a belaying pin in his belt and grabbed a heavy chain and hook. As the two ships scraped amidships, so close was their passing, Gazam heaved the chain and hook into the rigging of the Alliance craft. Other hooks were flung, arrows and bolts and spears filed the air. The ships were fastened together.

A squadron of heavily armed orc warriors stormed across jumping the distance and hewing through the paladins protecting the Sunburst. A purple robed mage began raining more fire on the deck of the Felhammer. The screams of peons and soldiers alike threatened to turn the tide. Gazam threw his belaying pin, interrupting the mage. The orc shamans used the respite and flung the human wizard high into the air, but he, no she floated down landing on the crowsnest. A flash of light and the mage was gone.

They plundered the Sunburst of its weapons, bound no doubt for the Alliance rebels on Kalimdor. An explosion in the powderhold sent the destroyer to a shallow grave. The crew of the Felhammer cheered and sailed back for Orgrimmar.

It was on his return, his lucky belaying pin retrieved and in hand, that Gazam’s deeds turned sour. He rushed back to his family farm, pockets stuffed with booty and a belly full of heroic tales and glory. Smoke on the horizon sank his bright mood and he ran hard.

Everyone dead, livestock slaughtered, his family reaved. All around, the heavy footprints of horses. Shod hoofprints.Neighbours were trying to put out the fires. Centaurs, they cried, and often was the case that those people tried to recover land from the Horde. But they did not shoe their hooves.

On a far hilltop, a flash of purple. Someone stood, watching Gazam. He watched back, his heart filling with hate. Though it was too far to actually see, in his heart he imagines the female human mage gulped once in disquiet before she opened a portal back to her homeland.

His dark heart smoldered, burned with a lust for blood. He would need allies to breach the human capital, to see his vengeance wrought so deep in the human seat of power. And he knew where he could find them. Skull Rock.

@Ceadron Each war happened during the corresponding Warcraft RTS game.
@mrneme636 As GM I can edit your character sheet. I'll try it out. If it doesn't work, we'll notify Keleth
May 27, 2016 3:58 pm
As for Dormir's personal quest, I have spoken with the GM, and I will be keeping the full detail private for now.

Apparent through observation and conversation, yet only the prior is necessary, Dormir suffers an internal struggle and must find a solution to long-term conflict.
May 27, 2016 4:12 pm
Uh, yeah. Let me know your personal quest, but it doesn't have to be public knowledge. Let's leave a little mystery in it.
May 28, 2016 7:22 pm
I've approved all character sheets now. Post or PM me with anymore quest or background info. I'm going to start the solo threads, but I need to confirm some things first.

Qralloq: Where is Gazam starting? Durotar? Anywhere specific?

Xjremon: I believe Dormir is starting in Ironforge, is that correct?

Ceadron: Where is Allyk starting? Being undead, he could be newly risen/freed from the Lich King's control anywhere in Lordearon. Is he even officially with the Forsaken, taking into account his Hermit background?

Mrnemeo636: I assume Mul'Zeb is in Durotar as well?

Genisisect: Is Meridia in Silvermoon?

Let me know if you want the solo thread to start any certain way you like or if you're giving me free reign.
May 28, 2016 10:05 pm
A good solo story for Gazam would involve leaving the warlocks of Skull Rock, and attempting to make his way to Stormwind (By way of Lordaeron perhaps) but realizing that busting that nut is beyond him.
May 28, 2016 10:08 pm
"Busting that nut" ... Well ok then.
Sounds good. Thanks.
May 28, 2016 10:40 pm
Meridia would be in or around Silvermoon, but travels often so if you need me elsewhere...
May 28, 2016 10:46 pm
Silvermoon works. Where does she travel to, and why?
May 28, 2016 11:05 pm
Yes Ironforge works for Dormir. A flagon of ale shan't be far from hand. Also, free reign on however else you'd like to jumpstart Dormir's adventure.
May 29, 2016 12:30 am
She travels regularly to other centres of arcane learning, often disguising herself as a high elf. Visiting dalaran particularly frequently.

On occasion she travels to historical sites as well to investigate them.
May 29, 2016 1:37 am
Allyk Karsin was born in a small farming village in one of the more remote areas of Tirisfal Glades and would have been buried there too, had fate not intervened. Allyk, out of necessity more than any other reason, became skilled with repairing or improving the various devices sold to the villagers by the occasional gnome or dwarf tinker that would travel through the village. His nimble fingers and sharp wits also served him well with the black powder rifles to supplement his diet with the occasional fresh game. His was a quiet life of farming and repair, never having found the time to start a family.
His otherwise idyllic life was shattered when war once again returned to the environs of Lordaeron. The village avoided the worst of the violence due to its isolation but could not fully escape all of the ravages of war. Blood and terror raged across the continent, but a far more insidious threat found its way to Allyk's village. A small cell of Kel'Thuzad's cultists snuck into the village and poisoned the grain supplies. The plague tore through the tiny hamlet quickly, and Allyk was one of the last to succumb as he tried to reconfigure one of the Gnomish Threshers to dig graves.
Shortly after sunset the day he breathed his last, Allyk's consciousness returned engineer's wrench still clutched in his hand. Though returned to a semblance of life, he was not as he was in life, the sickness had taken a severe toll on his constitution leaving him looking sickly and haggard even for one of the unliving. Adjusting to this new life took time, but Allyk discovered that this new life was not without its advantages no longer needing to eat or sleep. He spent several weeks testing the limits of his new form and honing his engineering skills.
Finally when there was no more he could stand to do, Allyk packed up his tools and slung his battered, thoroughly used rifle over his shoulder and left behind the small village that had been his entire world. Finding his way to the main road, Allyk was discovered by a band of the newly-organized Forsaken. One of the soldiers recognized the tools Allyk carried, and he was "convinced" to use his skills in service of Queen Sylvanas.
Now he spends his days working on new kinds of war machines and alchemical horrors for the Undead to defend their new nation. His nights are spent devising a way to escape from this new hell, perhaps Kalimdor would be big enough for one Forsaken to disappear in?

Hey, Durotar makes the most sense for Mul'Zeb's starting location. Probably in Sen'Jin Village or on the Echo Isles, but if he was needed to be stationed somewhere else, that's fine by me. Can't for the life of me think of a personal quest but I promise I'm still working on it.

Oh man, Qralloq, I forgot about that comic. "Your sacks... their faces. Let's make a love connection!" Too funny.

Ok, all the solo threads are up now. I'm not giving out a great amount of detail because I want these to be your stories. Make up names, give descriptions, and do your thing.
As a general rule of thumb, if you think a roll might be needed, go ahead and add it.

Thanks, unique_exemplar, I'll post an opening solo salvo some time tomorrow.

Awesome! I look forward to getting this rolling. :)

Don't think I leveled Gazam up. Here's a hit point roll.

Rolls

hit points - (1d6+1)

(6) + 1 = 7

House Rule: you can either take what you roll for hp or take the average.

Hey all, glad to join the party. So what races and classes are in the party as it stands now?
Feb 18, 2020 5:48 pm
I actually have a halfling monk I could easily port over to the WoW ruleset, I didn’t see anyone playing one going through old posts

As it stands now. There is no one else active. In the introduction post, I mention this being 4 years after the Third War. Monks aren't known in the world. Is there any kind of story you want to tell/go through?
Feb 19, 2020 2:11 am
I'm down for whatever, here's the loose backstory I gave him:

Eldon never knew much about his reclusive great aunt, until shortly after his 10th birthday when he learned that she had been a powerful monk for most of her life. He pleaded with her to teach him to fight, and, after months, she agreed. She taught him every day for many years until he was almost fully grown. Until one autumn, she grew ill and passed before the next spring. She had few belongings, save an old Viol which Eldon found with a note. She asked him to take the instrument and travel the world; not for glory and victory as she had, but in order to live every day to its fullest and bring joy to others. This, she said, was the true path to happiness and inner peace.
He set out the following week, and has been doing his best to fulfil his Aunt Verna's dying wish.

Alright. Fine. Since there are no Halflings in Azeroth, are you gonna be a gnome or what?
Feb 19, 2020 1:07 pm
Since we're at it, do you prefer hack 'n' slash, heavier on the roleplay, exploring the world.... I'll try to come up with something for a story, but I would like to know what style of play you prefer.
Feb 20, 2020 2:33 am
Well with this character, I think a lot of rpg and world exploring would be perfect, cuz he’s kind of a character and I’m not too informed on the geography of Azeroth. Maybe he’s sheltered in his home town, so he’s discovering the outside work for the first time
Feb 20, 2020 12:57 pm
Sounds good! Ok so we've got your young monk discovering the world after only living in this small little corner of Azeroth. Did you decide on gnome since halfling isn't available? How familiar are you with D&D 5e? The backgrounds are still the same in the WoW conversion. Sounds like Hermit might fit for this character.
Feb 20, 2020 1:25 pm
Oh, also, have you read through any of the Core Document? We can call it the WoW PHB or whatever you like. You can find the link in the House Rules thread or the game information page. Should say version 3.2 when you open it in Google Docs. When you have decided on race and background, go ahead and make your level 1 monk and let me know. You'll have until level 3 to figure out what specialization you want to follow.
Feb 21, 2020 1:19 am
Actually I was thinking maybe goblin, would there be goblin monks in your world?
Feb 21, 2020 2:07 am
There ... could be. At this point in time, goblins aren't affiliated with the Horde. You could be from one of the cartels. An outcast of sorts if you don't follow the normal goblin behavior (which by being a monk, I'm betting that to be the case).
Feb 25, 2020 6:12 pm
So I finished a quick draft for a lvl 1 gnome monk, I just need to type in the details later today, as well as a brief backstory on this forum
Feb 25, 2020 10:16 pm
Sounds good! I was beginning to wonder if you were staying. Submit your character when you're ready and I'll try to have a beginning written out.

Feb 27, 2020 4:59 am
Btw, I gotta warn you, Eldon and I (irl) know very little about Azeroth due to his sheltered life, and my never playing anything past Warcraft 3. So, please, bear with me
Feb 27, 2020 6:03 am
Also, I created him at lvl1, should I level him up at all?
Feb 27, 2020 8:49 am
No level 1 is perfect. I use milestone leveling and am generous with lower-level progression.
That's funny. I didn't have any experience with the Warcraft universe until WoW. I can certainly give you an exploration of Azeroth.
I'll start you out in a snowy mountain village as where you've come so far in your travels after leaving your aunt's. Don't be afraid to lead the story and go where you want to.
When you are done with your character, submit him to the game and I'll post the introduction post.
Feb 28, 2020 1:42 am
I approved your character to the game. Not sure if you were aware it's not finished? Don't forget to add your equipment to the Items section. I added in the Special Abilities for level 1 Monk and Racial features. Don't forget that your Background gives you skill and tool proficiencies.
Feb 28, 2020 2:17 am
It's probably not that important and I understand if you want to handwave this, but since gnomes reach adulthood at 40 years and you say Eldon trained with his great aunt since age 10, do you want Eldon to have spent the last 30 years in isolation? With the entertainer background, I didn't know where you wanted that training to come from. Was that with Eldon's great aunt as well? If you are picking up the viol for the first time, I didn't know how all this fit together.
Mar 3, 2020 7:26 am
Just checking in. It's been almost a week since the last post. Are we still doing this?
Mar 5, 2020 12:34 am
Yes, and the 30 years of traveling makes a lot of sense
Mar 5, 2020 12:34 am
Sorry, it’s been a busy week
Mar 5, 2020 12:37 am
I understand. Wanted to check in just in case. Before we start, go over your character and make sure you're assigning all your skill proficiencies, such as from your background
Mar 11, 2020 11:51 pm
He’s all ready!
Mar 12, 2020 1:56 am
The Entertainer background gives you proficiency in the skills: Acrobatics and Performance. Being a monk, you can pick any two from this list: Acrobatics (but you already have it), Athletics, History, Insight, Religion, and Stealth.

I've begun the game in this thread. Pick and assign your last skill proficiency when you're ready.
Mar 12, 2020 4:24 am
Oh, ok. I added insight
