Mission 1.2: Sinister Trail

As Nikolai breaks the lock, the door swings open wide. On the other side is a man who has the same awful zombie-like symptoms as the lady outside and the now recently lost Tariq.

Matsuki can instantly tell this is a threat before it turns to look at the one who freed it.The rifle bullet tore through the shoulder of the mold covered man. The host flinched, but it still manages to steady itself on its 2 legs. It gurgles aloud. "Who...grr... are..."

As Nikolai swings his claw gauntlets at the zombie, he struck the doors and the cubicle walls. It seems that he is a little too excited to give merciful death to this walking corpse that he didn't notice the tight space of his surroundings. While the mold victim is still scratched a bit, Nikolai also notices that his gauntlets are a little dented. The orifice-filled man proceeds to tackle Nikolai with somewhat strengthen arms... (2 damage to Nikolai, but vacsuit cushioned it to be losing 1 HP.)
"Leave... me!..." It croaked.

Matsuki takes another shot at the angered zombie...

This time, the bullet exploded the man's head. It gurgles still as it wavers a bit. Just before Nikolai might swing at it again, it falls over backwards, still twitching.

Nikolai avoids the body as he makes his way in to check on the spot where it was. He also keeps an eye on it to be sure that it won't get back up and attack him.

The cubicle has something that looks like a seat with a hole. From all he can understand, this room is a toilet, but looks a little different from a regular toilet he used to see. There are no drains, the seat is too round, and the walls look like screwed on panels.

The seat is the most covered in mold, like it held the zombie until it broke free. There is a bag lying in a corner, and what looks to be a notebook as well. They probably belonged to the zombie, who can be identified as Chong Lee, as his name tag is on his ruined uniform.

As Wolf steps over the body, its arm jerks, making him jump a little... (oh, nat 20...)

Nikolai did not react well to the corpse still trying to attack again, and so he shreds up the limbs in panic. As he calms down, he sees that he made a bit of a mess. Fortunately, his nerves is not too badly shaken. (1 Will damage.)

Matsuki takes the book and reads it. It contains a journaled account of someone named Chong Lee. The latest entries is about being put together into a team to investigate the site of an old ancestor-excavated hole that have the shape of a face. Everyone on board of the vehicle is uncomfortable, or starting drama.

The last page is messy, and is the author's final entry:
"This is it. I got myself infected by those things that got Christina. Coming here is the worst mistake we have done. We might have doomed mankind with what we have unleashed. The ugly thing that we found on the otherside of the hallway. It gave me the poison as it chased us. After my two remaining friends dragged me to safety, I locked myself in this small room. I am glad they are worried about me, but I know it is too late. I will become a monster. At least they might still carry on safely, and end this hell.

I can hear them now. The aliens. I see them hiding in the void under reality. If anyone finds this, I am Chong Lee, and I am sorryrkshdhjesn"

The writing ends in messy scribbles.
Matsuki feels a chill in her spine as she had a taste of something seemingly worse than death. However, adrenaline sets in instead of paralysing fear... (1 will damage.)

Zakk has been nearby all this while. He did not use his gatling gun, as Nikolai was right next to the zombie. He had been still recording the whole time, as the camera can be mounted to his suit. He comments that the video is now very fuzzy, almost impossible to see...

Nikolai bravely walks down the dark corridor with his flashlights. The crunch of glass can be heard as the weighty vacsuit steps on them. Whatever rampaged here, it probably does not like the lights.

The tunnel bends to the right, and into another room. This one is as big as the main room of the level, but it is badly covered in the black fungus. And the wall panels seem to be ripped off the walls and floors, exposing unknown wires and pipes. Red light glows from a section of the damaged floor, perhaps coming from the level below. Two other doorways in this room is covered in thick mold, except for one other one...

Matsuki inched her way to the hole, careful not to trip over the damaged floor. There are beams running under the floor, and some pipes and wires too. Under those things, Matsuki can see the next level below, which is about a 20ft drop. The red light is coming from a large screen, which is slightly cracked. Under the screen is a platform with rows of flickering buttons. There are cables running all over the place, as well as large growths of the black fungus that have become as thick as a pillar of the building.

While Matsuki studies this. Nikolai notices that the mold around the 2 covered doors is now subtly glowing white lights in the tips of their stems which is like a ball.

The opened door is less covered, but seems to suffer the similar large scratches. As Nikolai looks in with his flashlight, he sees that the inside is fairly larger than the other rooms. Along the walls, there are large glass vats, most of which are shattered. There are also the black growths lining the walls too, but their pattern looks like arteries or wall vines instead of the usual clusters of stems. It seems that this type grew out from the broken vats. On the other end of this chamber, is a wall thick with the growth of the mold.

Then Zakk gave a gasp of surprise. He shows his companions what he sees on the camera. The video is full of buzzing static, except for certain shapes that form. It looks like the black pixels of the static gathers around the image of the new branch like growths, revealing what looks like squiggly alien writing or glyphs. The static-glyphs gets more sharper slowly, and a soft buzzing sound can be heard from the recording device, beating in a rhythmic pattern...

Zakk follows Matsuki's suggestion, and scans the whole room with his recording camera. When he points it at the other end of the room, it can be noticed that there is a mass of black pixels gathered at where the centre of the thick wall is. The glyphs by now seem to become red, as if the dark pixels of the static gained colour.

When anyone sees this, and looks up at the room again, their eyes can see the red writing on the mold vines and mold wall. The runes writhe and wriggle, and when the eyes move away, the iconographies still remain on their retinas. Meanwhile, the red afterimage of... something is pulsing in the wall...
