DM dice roller sheets

There was disappointment amongst DMs that the character sheet integration was only to help them access the PC's character sheets.

The problem in showing the DM's NPCs is that there might be a lot of them and most will be unpopulated e.g. my IDRotF has 76 NPCs, and I really don't want to see 76 dice rollers.

My proposed solution is to allow "characterSheetIntegration" to be extended beyond true/false.

"characterSheetIntegration":
{
"dmSheets":[{"SRD monsters":"custom/17"}]
}

dmSheets is an array of character sheets the DM wishes to use in this game. Provided the DM can access the sheet then they can use it. The DM's sheet even doesn't have to be the right type, owned by that user, or of the right system - e.g. I could imagine a shared custom sheet with snippet helpers (e.g. with 5e conditions for easy access) and monsters that could be used by all DMs.

I really hope you say yes to this one - because I like it.

Maybe you can make it so only sheets that actually have something to integrate show up there. So it you want to just have a sheet that won't show up, only for the picture and name, submit an empty Custom sheet.
If you want to be able to roll, add a rolls table or add a 5e sheet or something else with roll integration.

No idea how feasible that is, though

The problem is it'd have to load the pages to know if they have anything. Every time I visit a IDRotF page it'd be loading 76 pages.

Without database changes --to have the existence of rolls in the sheets be easy to look up-- auto-detecting them is probably not feasible.
Yes, extending the characterSheetIntegration would be a good solution. I assume it will keep working the way it does now if we leave it at 'True'?

If we enter some names I assume it would stop listing the PC that are not in the list. I don't want to see some of them (they are empty).

Can we maybe have the current setting give the players access to their sheets (unless -blacklisted) and add a new setting for which sheets the GM has access to? I never roll for my players, so I would like to be able to set that to 'none', 'NPC' or just not include them in the list and have them not show up.

It sounds like you are proposing the ability to roll from sheets that are not in the current game. That sounds like a good idea.

Yes - that's right.

I'd still leave the PCs by default - these would be extra sheets.

I've added the dmExcludePcs option for people who never roll for PCs.

"characterSheetIntegration":{
"dmSheets":[{"SRD monsters":"custom/17"}],
"dmExcludePcs":true
}

Yes - that's exactly it.

e.g. Say the DM has access to this custom sheet with common SRD stuff on it.

Then they can use that sheet in every game to get shortcuts to those options.

I can imagine someone building a common custom sheet for 5e and sharing it. Then other DMs could add this as one of their dmSheets to get access to common 5e things (e.g. in 5e conditions are very often added as spoilers to posts so players don't have to look them up).

Figgin awesome!

I am confused by all this but it sounds generally like a good idea so I approve

I see no downside.

Renamed the attributes from dmSheets and dmExcludePcs to gmSheets and gmExcludePcs.
Sep 20, 2021 9:46 am
Naming things is hard.
Sep 20, 2021 9:47 am
Not at hard as Bowl hitting me upside the head if I start renaming GMs to DMs.

DM is a dumb term anyway. Sounds too much like "Direct Message"
Sep 20, 2021 10:13 am
But didn't Direct Message come after Dungeon Master? I'm generally pro-change, so I'll say go for it.
And then perhaps make an "Enhance your 5e DMing - A GP Guide" Adam. I'd say there are people that are not aware of your enhancements.

So I can rub it on my DM's face ;P

I approve the change to Genetically Modified sheets.

This really sounds like a fantastic idea, having a core SRD-like GM PC which you can access from similar games, and blop in conditions, or PBTA moves, or whatever.

No opinion here, as I don't use the integration. Sounds like a grand plan, though!
