🤷‍♂️ Secondary GMs can....

I could see the wisdom in disallowing a secondary GM to alter or delete a post, but then it forces the primary to do it themselves, which could be problematic.
So the 2GM can't let people in or kick them from the game. They can't retire the game. They can't alter or delete posts. Are they just supposed to have the nice GM button next to their name and nothing else? 😅

This makes me ask the question "Why do people want to have a secondary GM in the first place? What's their purpose?"

My assumption was that it would be good for games where you have a mentor/mentee thing going on (haven't seen one of those pop up in a while, but I remember them). Or you have a GM that wants to take a break and let a player take over for a little while, so they bring them up to Secondary GM level so they can run a game for a bit while still staying within the game's forums.

Is there a use case that I'm missing that requires the use of a secondary GM? Rather, are there use cases without simple workarounds that would work better than all this permissions hullabaloo?

Sorry.

ACLs is 'Access Control Lists', they are exactly what you are talking about with the graduated permission systems.

ACP is the 'Administrative Control Panel' where this site manages ACLs (permissions). The link is top right of the games main forum page. https://gamersplane.com/forums/acp/8003/ for this game.

Two uses I have been involved in for secondary GMs:
- first GM is withdrawing from GP, life is too busy, and a player offers to take over. Owner GM will be gone, maybe forever. New GM needs full rights including inviting members.
- round robin GMs. One person made the game, but others will take turns being GMs. The co-GMs need to be able to see Notes and character sheets.

Maybe the best solution is granular, then. A primary GM can give certain rights to any player at any time, so it's not 3 titles (primary, secondary, player) but a spectrum. Maybe they can just see Notes, or hide rolls and invite players, or be put on the same level as the primary GM.

Implementation...I don't know how to do that. I don't know how difficult it would be to place toggles on an ACL giving a player different levels of control.

I guess all you'd have to do is expand the options the ACP gives you. In theory, it sounds easy. But often, the things that sound easy are complicated and the things that sound complicated are easy

No dog in this fight, when you get right down to it. I like the idea of just flicking a single switch to give a second player GM rights. Either the same right, or very slightly diminished, but I don't see this as a big priority in the grand scheme of things.
