Has anyone looked at the Onyx Path version of Aberrant? How is it?
I have! It's a different system though, not WOD at all. We'll need the Trinity Continuum core rulebook, and also the respective Aberrant rulebook. Anyone want to learn a new system from scratch? :) :)

(I had figured WOD would still be somewhat familiar and therefore preferable to most of us).

Never heard of it.
I can't force another system into my brain right now. :p

As far as world building goes, were the 'heroes' of this world always bad/evil or did they slip into their awful ways from being heroes? Gods with clay feet or superjerks from the get-go?

I was just curious if it was an entirely different system or just adapted into the Chronicles of Darkness rules system. I was looking at picking up the new edition from DriveThruRPG.

I've read it through, haven't familiarised myself with it. It's nice that they are trying to streamline it, but it's evident the intention is to merge Trinity, Aeon, Aberrant, etc into a more seamless set of rules, which means divorcing Aberrant from its WOD roots.

Understandable. Aberrant was shoehorned into the WoD ruleset by stretching it nearly beyond capacity. Reminds me of how they introduced their Street Fighter game using the WoD ruleset. The ruleset was folded, spindles and mutilated to accommodate but it held up...barely.

The Trinity storyline was a bit genius, TBH. Three distinct eras/genres linked by an overarching storyline. Some loved it, some hated it but it was a really clever idea. It suffered greatly from 'style over substance' but that was the hallmark of White Wolf Studio back in the day!

I still have that Street Fighter hardcopy lying around! :)

Same. I snuck Shadowloo in as an opponent in the V:tM/W:tF game I was running when it came out. Nearly killed the PC werewolf Sept Alpha by accident when he faced off against a young M.Bison. The look on his face when he put the pieces together and figured out who beat him was PRICELESS. ;D

Lol that's a great anecdote!

Btw, I intend to start a discord channel for us, I use it largely for more immediate comms and status updates on the game. Hope that's ok with everyone.

Works for me.

I'm good with that. Just drop the link when you're ready.

One of the things I think we might need to do is establish conventions for die rolling, especially where MegaAttrubutes are involved since they generate 'extra' successes.

Something like either designating the first or last N number of dice being the Mega Attribute dice in the rolled pool OR rolling them separately. Just so everyone will be on the same page and reduce confusion/re-rolling.
Oct 11, 2021 3:36 pm
Yes, let's confirm it here. The last dice are the Mega dice.

So for example, rolling Subterfuge with Dex 4, Subterfuge 3 and MegaDex 2 means rolling 9d10, with the last 2d10 being the Mega rolls. I'll remind everyone again when we make our first rolls.

As we are slowly but surely heading towards a start, I'd like to talk about expectations and more importantly about red flags and no-go areas.

Expectations-wise, as I'm seeing some heavy Taint builds, and given that this is WOD-driven, I am open to a more gritty game if you are, let me know how gritty or dark: injury and gore, aberrations causing trauma, for starters, but also character/NPC death?

No-go areas. I am not open to violence towards children nor explicit sexual violence as part of PC agency or NPC actions. If there needs to be mention of genocide, rape, or such, they will be referenced or implied distantly, rather than described. I understand one of our characters is 13 years of human age, but his true age is possibly eons old, so that's not an issue for me.

I concur with everything you've said, DM. I'm good with BSG reboot dark, not Saw/Hostel dark.

While I'm never quite ready for PC death, resurrection scenarios are always fun to play out, especially in a comic book-based world.

I agree with both above posts. I'm good with physical damage and such, in similar lines as mentioned above. I'm ok with physical traumas, though as wmotional/mental ones go I would prever if it was dealt with distantly described.

I can agree with the limits above. They're reasonable and anything that strays close to the line (other than the Storytellers hard lines) can be discussed and headed off if it gets too dark. One of the nice things about PbP is that there's time to stop or turn a path before it hits trainwreck stage.

On a similar note... Terrapin has a revenge story arc as motivation. What's pushing the rest of your characters?

It depends how the band comes together and what tunes we sing.
Larynx is going for 1) doing good, 2) getting acclaim for doing good, and 3) being protected from the scarier things out there. That'll change (especially 2) if he's on the run with tainted monsters who just want to be left alone/hide.

And an interesting possibility for our 13 year old... Prime.
