When Anguis moves towarh hellhound it anxiously rise it's head and rise. Andguis see nothing suspicious in this. Your insigt check is succesfull - you do "determine the true intentions of a creature" - it is going to try to survive.

OOC:
Let's assume this is starting position of the battle and initiative order is: 1. PCs in any order 2. Hellhound
What do you do?
Mar 27, 2022 5:42 pm
Bellow follows Anguis at a distance so we won't both get burned. Also dodge.
Mar 27, 2022 5:47 pm
OOC:
move to q14 and dodge action
Mar 27, 2022 6:22 pm
OOC:
move to U17 and Dodge
Mar 27, 2022 7:23 pm
OOC:
Thorem makes a double move to R17. Dodge does take an action so Thorem doesn't do that. He is slow and putting all his effort in catching up. That and dodge doesn't do anything against the breath weapon.

OOC:

Dodge does help against breath weapon, I will let change Thorem action if this info changes your mind. I don't plan to post enemy move today anyway, want to go sleep
Quote:
When you take the Dodge action, you focus entirely on avoiding attacks. Until the start of your next turn, any attack roll made against you has disadvantage if you can see the attacker, and you make Dexterity saving throws with advantage.

OOC:
No. Thorem has to really make a double move and can't afford to lose movement to doing a dodge. He is movement speed 25'. Great on the DEX Saves for dodge. I missed that.

OOC:
Pile. What pile? Crystals are up to 2 feet tall and do not influence your vision. Just the opposite they provide bright light in the cavern.
I wanted to treat violet area as difficult terrain, but let's not over-complicate.
P.S. I'm using maps found on internet, I do not draw them. When you as a player see something on the picture that I do not describe, that means - it is not there. If I will ever design picture to play game "analyse the picture and find clues/hints there" I will let you know. This is not the case.
Mar 28, 2022 11:05 am
OOC:
I was sloppy on the weekend and did not poperly describe death of a hellhound:
One you cut off head: flames erupted from the neck and that fire consumed the creature’s remains in a billowing eruption of smoke and blazing embers, leaving nothing behind but scorched tufts of black fur.
Mar 28, 2022 1:06 pm
It runs away. And it's fast. I get out a scroll identified for "fiend" and hand it Thorem. Here, try this.
That puts me at R 16. If I can, I will dash to L 14.
Mar 28, 2022 4:45 pm
Thorem takes the scroll and examines it to find out what it is that might help.
OOC:
Pending what the scrolls is will determine if he is going to do any moving.

Thorem 6/28 HP, AC (14), Greataxe and Scroll in hands. INIT 2.

Hellhound start moving close to the wall in a circle and breaths it's fire at Anguis
OOC:
Anguis - DC 12 Dexterity saving throw
:

Thorem understand that the scroll contains magic that could be activated reading the scroll as an action, but you have no idea what will the effect be. You could guess based on what you remember about scrolls and magic that effect will last at least one minute.
OOC:
Your turn

I prepare a javelin, move to G 9, and throw it hard at the dog's chest.

Throw - (D20+5)

(11) + 5 = 16

Dmg - (D6+3)

(6) + 3 = 9

Thorem doesn't have the time to figure out this scroll. He has it in his hand but is ready to toss it away if that hell hound even thinks about flaming him. He rushes to the wall to prevent the hell hound from escaping that way and has his greataxe to enforce that thought.
OOC:
Move to B14 with a double move.

Thorem 6/28 HP, AC (14), Greataxe and Scroll in hands. INIT 2.

OOC:
@bubbles i don't see a charisma(Intimidation) skill check appropriate here and will ignore your roll. If you attempt to "grab hellhound by the scruff off it's neck." there is a DnD mechanisms called grapple for it. Please roll Strength (Athletics) check opposed by hellhounds Strength (Athletics) check.
I've decided to allow following for you:
You can use your action to try to compel a hellhound grappled by you. To do so, make another grapple check. If you succeed hellhound will "give up", i.e. stop fighting you at the moment
Mar 29, 2022 7:51 pm
Bellow's javelin hits as Anguis try to grapple Hellhound
Hellhound is not happy about it and tries to bite Anguis in return
But it does not succeed at anything

OOC:
Your turn

Hellhound str check - (1d20+3)

(7) + 3 = 10

Hellhound bite - (1d20+5)

(4) + 5 = 9
