#0 - A Comet in the Dark

Jack may not have understood Le InInfante's demenear, but he didn't need to. He understood a business relationship, he understiod shared information and he understood an actionable plan. He scanned the datapad quickly, taking in all the information faster than the average person could. "He had a history, he's been tested and proven himself. But he doesn't seem to have much, if any connections currently... But a good mind and good power can always be of use. " Comet is mostly just talking to himself. But then he addresses Le Infante. "Do we suspect a connection? And would it be an allyship or advecerial?"

Wesker continued to reply and explain their list, for Le Infante had turned his back on Jack to look out of his massive windows. "A number of these surfaced recently, Terrapin being one of them. He was thought to have retired after his gang was disbanded by the Sept, but new activity from him suggests otherwise. His former team, Aces, had been employed by Diavolo before. We want to establish whether he has returned to continue his association. From there we can either trace the connection, perhaps to Warp, or possibly back to Diavolo, assess if he is a threat, and either have him reconsider his options, or make him reconsider. Think of this as your first assignment."

OOC:
Sounds like we assume a connection between Diavolo and Warp?
Discern intent.Dissuade from joining Diavolo, of inclined. He nodded at Wesker, and Le Infante (despite him apparently not paying attention anymore), and turned to leave. Unless there's anything else,, or you think that I may need to be armed more than I am, I'll head out. His new powers were fairly unknown, and Terrapin is more powerful than Jack used to be before them, so any armorment, or armor would be apprexiated, but he has no right to ask. Plus if the test is to determin his lone capability, Le Infante and Weskar should easily be able to not arm him.

OOC:
Jack can reasonably infer that Le Infante thinks that Warp works for Diavolo. Jack could of course ask Wesker why Le Infante thinks Diavolo is behind the attack on Caroline Withers (Le Infante doesn't look like the kind who would answer Jack's questions), or Jack could simply infer that Le Infante thinks of Diavolo as a threat or a rival. Jack also can reasonably infer that the list is accurate, that it's a list of known associates of Diavolo that Le Infante/Wesker has compiled.
Also, Jack can on his own accord try to find out more about Diavolo in general, or ask Wesker about it.
Wesker arched his eyebrow at Jack's comment about equipping himself. "I think you should demonstrate your own initiative and foresight in this matter."

Jack nods at the responce as if it was expected.
Of course. I'll head out then.
I think Jack would use his contacts for some information on Diavolo. Making some calls on his way to Terrapin. And he would probably get as high as possible in the night sky to avoid being seen.

Wesker had left Jack with a location of where Terrapin was last seen. From Wesker's brief update, the Aces were a second-rate nova team who had worked with Duca Diavolo once or twice in the past. The team had distintegrated following their utter defeat at the hands of the Super Sept, with the lone surviving member, Terrapin, vanishing into their hideout, Murder Mountain. This was where Wesker had directed Jack to investigate. For if Diavolo were plotting a new scheme against Le Infante, it was conceivable that he might be tapping on novas who had worked for him before in the past.

Taking his leave from Wesker, and reaching the ground floor of the Tarocchi, Jack once again felt the unease he had experienced earlier when he entered the building. The day crowd before him was still abuzz, with people heading to the casino, or to the various restaurants and stores in the adjoining mall, or milling about the exhibition hall. There was no way to pinpoint the cause of the unease as far as Jack could tell, unless he wanted to stay and investigate.

Jack knew how to get to Murder Mountain, an abandoned amusement park on the outskirts of Capitol City, further upstate. It was a main attraction years ago as a brand new park known as Mystery Mountain, but it ran into disrepute after a major incident and was largely forgotten ever since. It wouldn't take him very long to get there in the air.
OOC:
If you want Jack to hang around to investigate you may, or Jack can head out to look for Terrapin.
So far, Jack's major contacts are Caroline Withers and Le Infante (and Dean Wesker of course). I've given you some small relevant information on Diavolo, and Wesker can give you more information if you have something more you'd like to know. If you want information beyond what Wesker says, we can set up some minor contacts, or you can go back to Withers, or perhaps do some independent legwork.

OOC:
If I know some basic info about Diavolio that'll work. Let's keep the scene's moving.

Comet's flight upstate was uneventful. He had headed straight up for cloud cover so that he could properly stretch his wings, something he hadn't had much chance to do. In the air, he had time to review some of the things Wesker had described regarding Diavolo. Duca Lucio Diavolo was a descendant of a long line of Italian noblemen, and inherited a vast fortune. He became one of of the most influential figures in the Mafia, a international crime syndicate operating out of southern Europe, as head of one of the crime families. His dealings in America had clashed time and again with that of Le Infante; there was no love lost between the two powerful figures. It was not surprising that Le Infante concluded that the attack on Withers originated from Diavolo's orders, although the hows and whys remain unanswered. This was where Jack came into play.

Jack could make out the shape of Murder Mountain from his vantage point as he soared down back to ground level, and that's when the rest of the amusement park came into view. Most of the rides still stood in their original place, all looking worse for wear, none of them likely to pass any safety inspections were the park ever to resume operation. As he began to descend, he saw something that caught his attention. An aerial battle! There appeared to be what he could only assume were three airborne novas, two of whom were locked in a stuggle: a man resembling Terrapin flying while being engulfed by what could only be described as a mass of living water. Near to them was an larger-than-life eagle, screeching in its approach as it appeared to be waiting for its moment to strike.

What do you do?
OOC:
Once you reply here, our next post will take us to Terrapin's thread!

OOC:
I'm going to assume Jack doesn't recognise the eagle figure.
Jack is going to help Terrapin. Not altruistically, but because it'll help get him in Terrapin's good graces, and Jack lives in a world of traded favors.
He'll probably try to sneak attack the Eagle, one less thing for Terrapin to worry about.
If he strikes from above, while diving, for a sneak attack, would he get extra melee damage?
Dec 20, 2021 10:29 pm
Actually. Can he use his tactics for this?
I'mma roll everything that coud be applicable and you take everything that you need.

Rolls

Initative - (11d8)

(87727752825) = 60

Stealth (for sneak attack?) - (7D10)

(3932375) = 32

Great idea to roll a bunch of dice! I'll talk you through what rolls apply.

You have 2 successes for Stealth, and that's compared against the target's Awareness as a resisted roll to see if Were knows you're coming or not. I've rolled for Were's Awareness, she has 5 successes, so she knows you're coming! Just fyi since you were mentioning sneak attack or extra damage, the relevant rule here is the Ambush maneuver (p242), although the rule says targets involved in combat cannot be ambushed.

Next, you're using Mental Prodigy (Tactical) to assess the tactical situation available. To use this you have to spend 1 Quantum, and spend an action to activate it. I'll grant you spent the action as you were surveying the fighting. You have 2 successes (the last die is your Mega-Int dice). You may use these 2 successes by adding 2 dice to any other roll you want to make about the situation. This ability essentially means you have assessed the scene and figured out the tactical opportunities involved, and therefore you get a bonus to some relevant next roll.

Finally, you roll 1 die for Initiative, and add it to Dex+Wits. Additionally you get to add +3 to Initiative because you have Mental Prodigy. (I'm going to take the first number you rolled). So that's 8+4+4+3=17.

Head over to the other thread! There's a new post that involves both Jack and Danvers.
