Stargate is a well documented series if you don't know much about it, the internet is great for finding out more. But you don't really need to do anything more than watch the Movie with Kurt Russell and James Spader.
You are an elite special forces operator on the most important mission ever undertaken by mankind. A foray to another planet, a planet populated by humans.
Commander: Lt. Colonel "One Lima" O'Neil(Played by the PC with the highest NFA)
Executive Officer Captain Kowalski (Played by yours truly)
Civilian Translator Dr. C. Jackson(Played by yours truly)
Marine Corporal "Animal Mother" (Played by the PC with the highest fighting ability)
Specialist "Cambridge"(Played by the PC with the second highest NFA)
Trooper "Dog" (Played by the PC with the highest intuition)
No need to know anything about military discipline this is a space opera not a tactical simulation. Beer and peanuts rules. For the first mission there is a sarcophagus, you can be brought back to life, again probably.
The points you have in an ability determine what you have to roll less than on a d10.
18 points divided between 3 stats
FIGHTING ABILITY
NON-FIGHTING ABILITY
INTUITIVE ABILITY
You also get 2 flashbacks. One representing a strength that carries you through. The other a fatal weakness. Strengths will instantly win an encounter and remove all threat tokens from play. Weaknesses will instantly end an encounter and usually end with the player who uses the weakness getting themselves, or someone else captured.
The first player to use a weakness triggered the ambush that overwhelmed the platoon and got you all captured. Sucks to suck, but someone's gotta do it, you might not get demoted afterwards.
You have 3 hit points. If they reach 0 you die forever, probably. There may be a sarcophagus around, but I wouldn't count on it. There will probably be ablutions though, healing equipment, alien drugs, you know the usual things to expect considering the theme.
Slavery is a huge element in this game as will be a frequent storyline element. As with alien experiments in eugenics. Religious misinterpretation will also be a frequent theme.
The mission had failed in the worst possible way. Outnumbered, out gunned, hopelessly stranded. The Abydonians had warned of Horus-Re and his godlike power. It might not have been a gods power but it vastly exceeded the platoons power. You had been beaten, taken alive when possible. Dr. Jackson was pulled away from the group several days prior.
Hadley, Kubrick, Varley, and Clancy were dead. Glukhovsky and Herbert were bleeding to death in the cell. They tried to escape killed by the Horus Guards and severely beaten. It was then they began torturing Dr. Jackson.
Dr. Jackson's screams hadn't abated for hours. At this point they were no longer recognizable as human vocalization. It had plunged in pitch. Whatever was happening to the man he had endured it the whole night. Eventually he went silent for a span of fifteen minutes. Marching footsteps a group of Six Horus Guards approached the enclosure. Opening the iron portcullis they cast Dr. Jackson's body into the cell. Departing immediately.
He was conscious, sobbing holding himself. His skin was pink, steaming, it had a strange golden glow to it. "Water..." please."
Kowalski who had found a crude tin cup steadied Dr. Jackson. "You ok, Kid?"
Jackson who had greedily drained the cup of its contents but broke as Kowalski looked him in the eyes. Tears welled in his eyes upon making eye contact. "I told him. Everything. And he kept doing it. He kept pulling it from me. It, felt, so good and then it was just so horrible. I-I-I I died!" Dr. Jackson was hyper ventilating as the truth dawned upon him. "I died didn't I?"
Kowalski looked at O'Neil clearly demoralized. "We have to move, soon as they come back."
