Turuko and Kobort watch as Bors and Maloria head to the cave entrance to aid Gilly. When they realize that Eltrezar has opted to remain with the horses, and more specifically, the saddlebags laden with the party's small wealth a slight grin turns up the corner of Turuko's mouth and Kobort's back stiffens noticeably.
"A careful man," he says. "No matter, I was merely offering to be of use, assuming your companion might need the aid of those she's traveled with up to this point. I can't be surprised that my friend Kobort here and myself have yet to earn your full trust, new as we are, and such little is known of us or where we come from. I do believe that in time you'll come to the opinion yourself that so long as we can fight, your possessions will be treated with the care we would treat our own with.
"But since we may be setting here a while, we may as well use this opportunity to learn more of each other. Establish some trust, if you will... So tell me wizard, where to you hail from? Some grand university of magic located deep within a high mountain range somewhere? Surely Hommlet isn't your home, originally, for Kobort and I have met no other wizards you could have studied under in the short time we've been in the village looking for work..."
Meanwhile, Bors and Mal arrive at the cave mouth and peer inside. The lacking infravision fighter's view of the interior is as limited as Gilly's and he can only see a small distance inside. Not so for Maloria. With her own ability to see in the darkness, she sees that the cave is more of a single room running about sixty or seventy feet back. Gilly sits with the body of the dead pixie, and both Bors and Mal recognise it as one that they fought two days earlier. Further back into the room, almost out of range of the sun's light, two more pixies lay dead. Aside from that, the cave looks empty, though Bors notices that there's some bones and the scat of what might be a bear or a mountain lion and the ground, both of which indicate that some sort of creature has used this cave as a den at some time, but none of the scat or bones look recent.
Bors also notices a significant number of shod footprints stamped into the dirt and dust on the cave's floor. And though the exact numbers are too difficult for the fighter to discern exactly, due to the abundance of prints stepping over one another, he estimates that maybe as many as half a dozen men, or at least humanoids that wear boots, have passed through this cave as recently as the last day or two, judging by the fact that the footprints have not been covered in turn by any dirt, leaves, or other debris that tends to find its way inside over time.
