Mal shoulders her coil of rope and grabs on to one of Bors' arms and drags him towards the ladder. Time permitting, she wraps the rope around the man's torso just under his arms and double knots it.

If Mal takes Bors with her greater movement, then Gilly can tie the rope on her turn. Save us messing around!
Jan 13, 2022 6:04 pm
Gilly hands the fallen warrior off to Maloria who drags the fighter another ten feet towards the ladder, while the halfling ties the rope around the man. Keeping one ear on the end of the corridor while they work, they still hear the gnashing and ripping of meat, indicating that the ghouls are still too captivated by their meal to notice that the rest of they prey has skittered off.
OOC:
Round 16 ends with Maloria and Gilly only ten feet from the ladder.

Ghouls' Wisdom Check

OOC:
Round 17 begins! This is that last round that Eltrezar is willing to wait at the top of the ladder, I believe @cowleyc stated. Turn order is follows:
-->1. Eltrezar, Maloria, Ghoul #4 (5)
2. Ghoul#3 (4)
3. Gilly (3)

From down the hall Gilly and Maloria suddenly hear the sounds of ripping cease, and one of the ghouls gives a grunt, sounding almost like a question... "Uhhgh?"

Ghouls' Wisdom Check

Eltrezar sighs. He adjusts himself to depart, stretching legs and rubbing his knees.

With the rope secured around Bors, Mal says,

"Close enough, let's get up the ladder and we can pull him the rest of the way!"

She looks to Gilly for acknowledgment before heading up the ladder with the rope firmly gripped.

Oh, Interesting! I see what you're up to now, I think. That was not what I thought you had in mind...

Gilly follows along up the ladder, hoping that they have enough time to pull Bors up before the Ghouls get too many of their claws into him.
Jan 15, 2022 6:05 am
Maloria continues to drag Bor's fallen form across the hall, finally reaching the ladder. Looking above she sees the light of a lantern shining. The wizard remains at attendance above...

For Eltrezar's part, he gets ready to leave, only to see far below the face of Maloria looking up from the darkened depths, the fallen form of Bor's in her arms.

Gilly makes a rush for the ladder as well, and reaches the ladder in three seconds. From behind her she suddenly hears the sounds of snarling and bare feet slapping on the stone floor, and as she grabs the first rungs she looks back to see both ghouls charging up the corridor after herself, Maloria, and Bors. She begins her assent, rising another fifteen feet, ascending halfway up the vertical passageway.

Round 18 begins! Turn order is as follows:
--> 1. Gilly, Maloria (5)
2. Eltrezar, Ghoul#3 (3)
3. Ghoul #4 (2)

Gilly is currently halfway up the ladder and likely safe from the ghouls below. It stands to reason that if the starving ghous could climb, they would have looked for food above at some point. She currently is carrying the end of the rope, I believe. She could in theory make it to the top of the ladder, and use her Action to make a Strength check to haul Bors up. I would say pulling the heavy load up hand-over-hand will be pretty tough, and there will be a penalty of +2 to her roll, and a failure means he's too heavy to pull up this turn (1d20+2 and roll 14 or under).

Maloria is at the ladder's base. Assuming Gilly succeeds in pulling Bor's up some, she could ascend her standard Movement Rate of 20' up on her own. Assuming Gilly fails her Strength check, Mal could possibly try to manually heave Bors onto her shoulder and begin slowly climbing. This will be a bit tougher to do, because she's carrying his large form upward, while trying to keep him balanced on her shoulder, while trying to use both hands to grab the rungs, so this roll will be at a penalty of +4 to her Strength roll (1d20+4 and roll 14 or under).

A success from either PC will be sufficient to get Bors about 10' off the floor, and out of reach of the ghouls below. A failure, will result on Bors being left behind and the primary target of the ghouls' feeding frenzy, resulting in his death.

If this sounds fair, please begin. If not, please make your case before we proceed...

Gilly climbs further upwards until she reaches the light. She shoots the wizard a poisonous look, before turning back to the hole and digging deep as she hoists the fighter up as fast as she can!

As soon as Gilly flies through the door at the top of the ladder and begins hauling up the body of Bors, Eltrezar takes another look down the dark passage. He prepares to shut the door the moment Maloria passes through. "Hurry!" he tells the Dwarf in a loud whisper.
OOC:
Edited to reflect that Bors isn't up yet, just being lifted.

"Keep that door open until we get Bors up!" Mal shouts up to Eltrezar.

OOC:
Holy! Jeez, Gilly! So my plan was that a success on either roll would get Bors 10' off the ground... high enough to be out of reach of the ghouls, and then I'd maybe have you make some Strength rolls to successfully continue hauling him up, but I always reward a critical success on an ability check (a roll of "1") well above normal outcomes. I'm going to say no further rolls are necessary; Gilly has things well under control.
Gilly begins tugging the rope hand-over-hand. The elation of escaping those dark and terrible depths, and the desperation to help her fallen companion results in a surge of adrenaline as she begins hoisting up the large man and his heavy gear.

As Mal begins climbing the ladder she hears the ghouls rush to the base of the ladder, and looking down she sees the two creatures reaching futilely for her boots, too stupid to just grab the rungs and climb after her. Looking back up, she expects to see Bors dangling just above her, but for as fast as she can climb, the body of the unconscious fighter keeps pace above her head. Clearly Eltrezar has taken up the rope with the tiny halfling and together they are pulling Bors up ahead of her. Yet as she rises to the top she sees only Gilly handling the rope, a surge of superhuman strength bringing her friend to the safety of the questionably-safe torture chamber. Eltrezar slams the secret door in the pilar as the dwarf rises out of it, the raspy complaints of rage from the ghouls suddenly going silent, and all three remaining companions stand looking at one another in the light of Eltrezar's lantern, a poisonous look in Gilly's gaze directed at the wizard.

Hrmph! "We can talk about this later. For now, we need the bandit's corpses. And we need that Holy Water, Mal. We provide the ghouls a snack, and drop the potions from above. One body should do." While Eltrezar tries ordering his companions into action, it is clear he is struggling to look them in the eyes. But he stands up straight and urges them on.
