The Sorcerer-King's Quarries

Cielo begins to issue a word of warning to the kobold, but can see will already be too late.
Ever the cautious one, he approaches the scene more slowly than the others, alert for any lingering danger.

"It looks like we might be on the right track at least." he says matter-of-factly.

Sabrina notices nothing of particular note around the corpses or paths. One thing she can see is that it doesn't look as if the corpses were looted. They still have clothes, armor, and weapons on and around them.

As Thyssk runs forward to check the freshness of the corpses, he too notices that nothing has been looted from them. The corpses have begun to bloat slightly and a foam containing blood runs from some of the corpses' noses and ears; clear indicators of rot. The two larger corpses, evidently elves, have had their ears removed from their heads. Various soft spots and bruises on the corpses are indicators of blunt force trauma being the driving cause of death for these travelers.

Cielo approaches slowly and surveys the area. You notice no danger hiding in the grass around the trail, though one can never be too sure what lays in wait for prey to make an appearance.

Disaster! The food was spoiled. Thyssk's enthusiasm deflated so instead he began to wonder the next important thing: Were the corpses carrying any food on them? A small part of him registered the trauma and the ripped ears. But that just meant that orc they were chasing probably did this. Unimportant. Besides, he didn't have such useless skin flaps to steal anyhow.

He began his search and he was practical while he did so; anything worth salvaging would also be considered!

Sabrina nods to Cielo and then she turns to the serious not talkative lizard : ''What do you think? Follow the corpses?''

"Well something big was definitely here. It seems logical. I just wish we could catch up to him before he gains too many allies. But from the looks of this it seems like he is more interested in making corpses than friends."

Cielo gazes at the sky for a moment, seeking Guidance, and then looks to the ground to see what tracks lead away from the site.

Cast Guidance and then make a Tracking roll

Tracking - Survival (with Guidance) - (1d20+1d4+4)

(5) + (4) + 4 = 13

He surveys the seen carefully. The last thing he wanred was to end up like those in front of him. The ranger instinctively pulls his bow and locks an arrow. He then squats low and begins reading the story of the earth. Track? Their age if any? Decompositon of the corpses? He can tell a lot just by smell. He listens as his mind works.
His first instinct is to tell the little kobold to be silent...but it is too late to do any good and it may draw something out.
OOC:
roll is intelligence/nature

Reading the ground - (1d20+5)

(10) + 5 = 15

Thyssk's search of the corpses yields a few items. First, he finds some coin on the corpses. There are 52 copper pieces and 16 silver pieces between all of the coin purses of the dead. Their weapons, shortswords, are strewn about the path around them. Only the elves wear armor, chainmail, though the armor would likely require some minor repairs to be functional. A map of the continent is found in one dwarf's pocket. Each of the travelers also has a backpack with five days of rations left inside.

Cielo and Erimeade see no odd tracks save that of a massive pair of feet leaving the site of the battle. By the looks of the tracks, however, it seems that they are continuing onwards towards the mountains. Erimeade's investigation of the tracks leads him to know that the creature leaving these tracks, while humanoid, is certainly exceptionally heavy due to the depth of the footprints.

Thyssk begins wolfing down rations.

OOC:
Can Erimeade tell how old the tracks are?

Seeing nothing in regards to their pursuit. Erimeade returns his bow and arrow to his back and continues following the tracks. He moves past the corpses with little more than a glance. His mind is on their quarry not looting the dead.

Sabrina follows the ranger and others to the path of dead corpses.

Cielo turns to Sabrina.
"Over a dozen combatants. Let us hope they were poorly skilled seeing that they were all killed by a single enemy. Their equipment looks relatively poor so I suspect none of them were seasoned veterans. That is perhaps the only bright spot I see in this massacre. It is not right to leave them to rot in the road."

When Erimeade is done with his inspection and the group has moved past the scene of carnage, Cielo turns and kneels down. Speaking a few words of power and thrusting his hands into the dirt he appears to pull a humanoid form from the earth. In just a few moments the creature is fully formed and Cielo speaks to the earthen figure.

"Bury these bodies and then you are dismissed." he says somberly and then turns to follow the others
OOC:
I use Summon Elemental to do this.

Erimeade can tell that the tracks are around five days old.

The elemental slowly nods his heavy, rocky head before beginning to haul the corpses off of the path to make a small graveyard for the dead.

Sabrina nods to Ganesh : ''Yes, you have a good point''

Been sick, and still recovering. Gonna keep this short.
Clickclack walks around the site of the battle, observing the scene and studying any tracks. He looks to see if any of the tracks look like they could have come from an extremely large, heavy orc. He also looks for any tracks that might indicate if there were additional combatants beyond the orc (if present) and the fallen.

OOC:
get well soon timplausible!
Jan 16, 2022 6:31 pm
Studying the tracks intently, Clickclack firmly believes that the large, deep tracks leading away have come from the orc. As far as he can tell, there were no additional combatants.

"My servant will return these poor souls to the earth from which they came, but in the meantime, we had best be moving. This creature has far too much of a head start for my liking."
Jan 19, 2022 3:37 am
After studying the scene, Clickclack turns to his companions. "This was done by the orc we week, alone. It may be we can catch it before it acquires followers. I agree that we should keep moving."

The group continues on their journey towards the Ice-Crowned Peaks. The remainder of your travel to the mountain is uneventful. That is until you reach the base of the east end of the mountain. A ways ahead of you all, at the point where the trail you've been following leads into the rocky mountainside, you see a group of five orc warriors blocking the way into the mountain pass. You are approximately 1000 feet away from the orcs, and as such have trouble seeing exactly what they are equipped with at the moment.

Thyssk notices the orcs and takes the logical steps. First he hisses at his distant enemies and then begins looking for places to hide..
