Hello everyone! Thank you so much for accepting the invite to my game. Please give this thread a read before getting started anywhere else! This thread will go over the Out Of Character Rules for this game, as well as a bit of what you can expect from me as a GM.
OOC Rules
What to Expect from the GMAfter reading the above, please respond here letting me know if you agree to the above rules and expectations, or if you have any questions or need clarification on anything.
OOC Rules
[ +- ] Rule 1: No tolerance for intolerance
This is a no tolerance for intolerance zone! These games are welcome to players and characters of all backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, and orientations. That is: I'm not even interested in in-character bigotry directed at real-life demographics, much less OOC issues. This is not the place to make a misogynistic/homophobic/antisemitic character, even as a joke. Let's all be respectful.
[ +- ] Rule 2: Leave all corrective assistance to the GM
Please don't criticize other players' posts. This actually includes even good intentioned constructive criticism. These games are for fun, and I'm not going to be grading anyone's writing. Sometimes folks just want to type up posts on their break and not have to worry about perfect spelling and grammar, and this game is fully inclusive of any individuals who do not have English as their first language. As long as I can understand what they meant, we're golden, and I can ask for clarification privately if I need to.
[ +- ] Rule 3: Always describe your actions when making a move/roll
It's always fun to make things interesting! Instead of simply going, 'I roll Animal Handling to see if I can calm the horse down', describe your character doing something to calm the horse, then make the roll.
That being said, I'm not the type of GM to ask for rolls for everything - rest assured, if I make you roll for something, it's only because something equally interesting will happen if you fail your roll! A comedy of errors is still a fun ride. On the flip side, there are some areas where you may get an automatic success and not have to roll at all.

[ +- ] Rule 4: Try to keep to the daily posting frequency
Try to keep to the posting frequency for PbP. That would daily posts (including weekends) - roughly within 24 hours of the GM post. If you don't post the game will proceed without you! I run a tight ship when it comes to pacing, and I don't think it's fair to those who post on-time to have to wait on those who don't. That being said - real life happens, and I'm not going to kick you out of the game for not posting - just hop back in when you're ready and we'll get you caught up.
Addition: I know that holidays are coming up, and while I'll keep up my GM posts, I won't have anything major happen on Christmas/New Years, since that is a likely time when people will be out.

[ +- ] Rule 5: Keep campaign rating PG-13
We're going to go with a PG-13 rating. More specifically: cursing is allowed, but not excessively. Extended fantasy violence is allowed, but no gory-descriptions (it just doesn't fit the theme); sexual themes and situations should be kept to a minimum/fade to black or else left out.
[ +- ] Rule 6: Do not conflate OOC and IC conflict
In either direction! If two characters dislike each other in the game, please don't bring it into the OOC chat areas, or get mad at the player based on what their character does. Similarly, if you are having problems with another player, please contact me to help resolve the issue, and don't use in-character interactions to target/bully/exclude a particular player.
[ +- ] Rule 7: Contact the DM about any issues
If you ever have a problem, please let me know! You can send me a direct message here on Discord. Communication is important in TTRPG games, and I promise I will always listen and do my best to resolve the issue (for online problems) or make accommodations (for offline problems).
What to Expect from the GM
[ +- ] A Guide Through The Game
As the Game Master, I consider it my responsibility to help guide my players through the game. That being said, I'm also new to this particular system, so if you're new too we'll kind of be learning together! In any case, I am not a 'just read the book' GM - though obviously you should have a copy of whatever TTRPG you are playing to consult for basic rules, if you are ever confused about anything, please feel free to ask for help or clarification! If you're stuck or need some help figuring something out, please reach out to me! The whole point of the game is to have fun, not suffer through!
[ +- ] Conflict Resolution
It is the GMs responsibility to resolve any conflicts that pop up between players in their games. However, I do need everyone's assistance in making sure that any conflicts are communicated to me. If you have a problem, please reach out to me in PM and I will do my upmost to resolve it or assist with any accommodations.
[ +- ] Dice Roll Philosophy
I am not the kind of GM who will ask for rolls for everything. Especially if there is not an interesting consequence for failure - I am more willing to give some actions an automatic pass to keep the story going. That being said, when I do ask for a dice roll, it more than likely denotes a real shift in the story. Sometimes a failure doesn't seem like a failure at first, but may have longer-term consequences. In all cases, I at least try to make the results interesting, so don't worry if you (like me) happen to have bad dice luck.
[ +- ] Daily Posts
For clarity, when I run a game with a set posting frequency, I only truly hold myself to it, as the GM. There is no way for me to realistically enforce a posting frequency on players, and I think it defeats the spirit of a game to try. I am not going to kick you out of the game because you took too long to post! The thing is, while I cannot ensure that PCs will post on time - I can ensure that I will. I will always respond to a post and give players something to react to within 24 hours of their post. I promise I will not leave you waiting!
The unfortunate double side to that sword is that I cannot wait for a late poster without breaking that promise to those who posted on time. So, a lack of a post within 24 hours is simply marked as inaction/continued-previous-action, and I will only resolve any involuntary rolls that were not completed. Because of that, I always recommend posting - even if it is just to say your character is waiting for the other characters to react! There is no posting order, and, if you would like, you are welcome to post more than once in a 24 hour period, to have PCs interact and chat.

[ +- ] A Complete Oneshot
My prediction is that this game will take roughly 10 (or more) weeks, and while I can't predict the attendance of the group, I can say that - as long as even one player still wants to play - I can at least get you to a satisfying conclusion to the mission your characters are on. I promise not to ghost mid-game and ride it out to the end.
[ +- ] Focus on Player Character Decisions
This is really what roleplaying is all about. While I set up the world as the GM, it's not really roleplaying unless your character's decisions affect the story, and to a broader extent, the world. In this game, there will be opportunities for both roleplay and combat, but neither are mandatory. What's important is that your character's decisions and relationships will matter. Things your characters do may close avenues that were once clear, and open up new possibilities I hadn't considered.
[ +- ] Unique & Reflexive Worldbuilding
While this is based on a module, you shouldn't expect everything to follow it to the letter. Along with modifying the module for more streamlined play, I'll also reflexively flesh out new areas as PCs decide to explore them. How things are resolves (or if they are) is not set in stone - my main concern is telling a compelling story based on what your characters choose to do.There may be a path of least-resistance, but there's no need to follow it (and, honestly, it's not always the best idea).
