Thank you all for your interest! Please go ahead and create your characters using the below information. If you want to use D&D Beyond, I'm fully in support of that also.
Current Party: Level 2
Character Generation
Second Level
Any published WOTC materials (no UA to start). If you choose an outlandish race, it may have in-game implications, but isn't off the table.
Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) or Point Buy (27 Points)
Max hit points for level 1, rolled according to leveling information below for level 2+
House and Optional Rules
Variant Humans are allowed
Feats are allowed
Leveling Info
Hit Points per level are rolled, but with a minimum of the average. Any roll below the average for the die is treated as the average (plus CON mod as appropriate):
Roll your HP in this thread and give a quick summary of what new stuff you're picking up. For example:
Rolled a 1d6 for my new HP, plus I get 1 new cantrip (Learning Prestidigitation) and the feat "Alert".
PBP Stylistic Guide
Here's a quick summary of some "standards" you'll see me using throughout the game. If you'd like to follow the same, great. Otherwise, just make sure your posts are easy to understand what's going on (especially as it pertains to speaking vs thinking and such.
In short:
Character actions are posted in unadorned plain text. I try to keep these in third person, present tense.
Speech is done in bold text.
Internal thoughts are handled through italics.
Information about any spells or actions taken in the post are in red font at the bottom of the post.
Anything out of character is posted using the OOC tags.
DM Information I try to post in this color.
A few housekeeping items, so you all know what to expect:
1) Given the asynchronous nature of PbP games, I will roll all initiatives.
-->Typically combat will be side based, meaning all the PCs will go in one batch and then all the NPCs will go in one batch so we don't get too bogged down in waiting.
-->Characters with high initiatives are still beneficial as I take all rolls into account (not exactly an average of all inits, but similar) when I set up when the batches go. In order to keep it "easy" to understand, I'll post the current combat lineup in Bold Teal when we are in "initiative timing". If your name is in bold, you are free to take your action. If not, no action for you!
Example:
COMBAT! Bold below may act:
Evil Monkey
Bob
Bill
Susan
Army of Grifters
2) Please roll attack and damage when you declare your attack. If you roll a 20, edit in an extra dice for the crit damage. For example, make a roll like: Longbow Shot: 1d20+3, 1d8+1.
3) If you think your action will need a roll, post it. If I don't need/want it, I'll just ignore the result. :)
4) For the most part, we'll be doing Theater of the Mind for combat, though I can provide maps as needed. For any grid maps, I do NOT use the "alternating diagonal distance" variant rule.
All in all, we're all here to have fun and roll some digital dice. If there's an issue with anything, please let me know and we'll do what we can to make sure everyone is having a great time!

Dirty kobolds. Vile creatures. I would as soon bed a devil as I would to see a single of these vermin roam free. the sorcerer thinks to herself as she feels the wisps of poison start to coalesce in her hand.Quote:

The barbarian really hates kobolds. I'm not sure if this would give him any kind of advantage on the strike? Are there any other rolls you want to see?Quote:
Feel free to roll a Nature check to learn more about Kobold lighting preferences. Billy, do so at advantage because your mom is a kobold.A few housekeeping items, so you all know what to expect:
