Character generation

Stats generated with Point buy. Level 15 (multiclass allowed). Source material: Anything published by Wizards of the coast is automatically allowed. Unearthed Acana and anything else, swing it by me first.

As for magic items I am thinking I am going to give you 10 rolls on the Magic Item Tables A to G. If you rather pick an item from one of the tables then the first pick will cost you 2 of these rolls, the next will cost you 3 rolls ect. So you pick 2 items, then you will have 5 rolls left. It will give you some random stuff from your adventures, but also allow you to have some useful items.

Rules of 3 attuned items still apply. Artificers who break this rule can attune to their own danm infusions ;)

addemdum: If you roll items with the futuristic or firearms trait, then you get to reroll. So no antimatter rifles

could you please point me to the "Magic Item Tables A to G". Also what is the order? Could I 1) roll 5 times 2) pick 3) choose class/race

Yes, do it in the order you want :)

Cool. Could I double check if this is valid approach: 1. I can roll for example 3 times from table F and 5 times from table G. And I have one item to pick from any table afterwards.

yep
You are level 15, you have some magical gear and I think this is a fair way for you to aquire some that fits and some that just are.
Once you stand in front of the vault, you can trade items. Letting the wizard carry all the spellscrolls and such, but no trading during the character creation.

@runekyndig>
thanks a lot for inviting me; very appreciated. :)

- I am a bit unsure what we will be doing here. This is one brief, but wellrounded adventure under Waterdeep? Or more a boss-battle with some surroundings? Should we invest in things like skills/utilities or in bare battle prowess?

- I let go of the bladesinger idea, because it would have been to close to Duende and I want to try something different.

- is there a date you would like to start? mid-january? or how long do we have to build our characters?
I created a DnDbeyond account for the first time. So maybe there will be some questions. With the rule set of DnD I am mostly familiar.

What are you building @GreyWord? :)
I am thinking about a swashbuckler - battlemaster at the moment, but the more time I spend reading subclasses, the more uncertain I get.

I don't want to sound condescending, but have I been unclear in this statement?
Quote:
Vignette, what does that mean? This is a Vignette where we are cutting right to the chase. We just play a very small part of a larger adventure. A small dungeon, a confrontation with the mastermind, ect.
This is a small dungeon where there is a bit of exploration and then a confrontation, where you sort out the mess the previous adventure party made. Don't slip in it, or the remains of the previous adventure party. There won't be character growth or untangling of mysteries, just the final of an adventure.
We will start when everyone is ready
DNDbeyond is not a requirement there is just a lot of stuff to keep track on at 15th level, so it would be a help, its not a requirement.

Make the character you wan't to try out. This is just as much a possibility for playing around in the higher levels. I will not spoil the vignette, but it is possible to solve the mission without combat.

I'm rolling and deciding based on items. If I get +2 warlock casting item, then choice is obvious.
P.S. I don't like picking consumables in so short scenario that is strange to spend rare consumables when you just need to retrieve some money.

Figurine of wondrous power (Marble elephant)
Wondrous item, rarity by figurine

A figurine of wondrous power is a statuette of a beast small enough to fit in a pocket. If you use an action to speak the command word and throw the figurine to a point on the ground within 60 feet of you, the figurine becomes a living creature. If the space where the creature would appear is occupied by other creatures or objects, or if there isn’t enough space for the creature, the figurine doesn’t become a creature.

The creature is friendly to you and your companions. It understands your languages and obeys your spoken commands. If you issue no commands, the creature defends itself but takes no other actions. See the Monster Manual for the creature’s statistics, except for the giant fly.

The creature exists for a duration specific to each figurine. At the end of the duration, the creature reverts to its figurine form. It reverts to a figurine early if it drops to 0 hit points or if you use an action to speak the command word again while touching it. When the creature becomes a figurine again, its property can’t be used again until a certain amount of time has passed, as specified in the figurine’s description.
Marble Elephant (Rare). This marble statuette is about 4 inches high and long. It can become an elephant for up to 24 hours. Once it has been used, it can’t be used again until 7 days have passed.

Belt of dwarvenkind
Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)

While wearing this belt, you gain the following benefits:

Your Constitution score increases by 2, to a maximum of 20.
You have advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks made to interact with dwarves.

In addition, while attuned to the belt, you have a 50 percent chance each day at dawn of growing a full beard if you’re capable of growing one, or a visibly thicker beard if you already have one.

If you aren’t a dwarf, you gain the following additional benefits while wearing the belt:

You have advantage on saving throws against poison, and you have resistance against poison damage.
You have darkvision out to a range of 60 feet.
You can speak, read, and write Dwarvish.

Weapon, +2

Weapon, +2

Ring of X-ray vision
Ring, rare (requires attunement)

While wearing this ring, you can use an action to speak its command word. When you do so, you can see into and through solid matter for 1 minute. This vision has a radius of 30 feet. To you, solid objects within that radius appear transparent and don’t prevent light from passing through them. The vision can penetrate 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, or up to 3 feet of wood or dirt. Thicker substances block the vision, as does a thin sheet of lead.

Whenever you use the ring again before taking a long rest, you must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or gain one level of exhaustion.

Boots of striding and springing
Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)
While you wear these boots, your walking speed becomes 30 feet, unless your walking speed is higher, and your speed isn’t reduced if you are encumbered or wearing heavy armor. In addition, you can jump three times the normal distance, though you can’t jump farther than your remaining movement would allow.

Slippers of spider climbing
Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)
While you wear these light shoes, you can move up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down along ceilings, while leaving your hands free. You have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed. However, the slippers don’t allow you to move this way on a slippery surface, such as one covered by ice or oil.

Ring of jumping
Ring, uncommon (requires attunement)
While wearing this ring, you can cast the jump spell from it as a bonus action at will, but can target only yourself when you do so.

nice selection, but remember that you can only attune to 3 items at one time.

Well... people who can read (and remember what they`ve read) clearly have an advantage. ;)
That answers my question completely.

Could I choose the weapon type for each of two weapons? Looks like with two weapons I'm going to be barbarian or fighter
Jan 9, 2022 7:42 pm
I'm going to go with a heavily chaotic method of character gen I think. :) Let's see what the magic item tables have in store for me, 5 each on F and G:

Table F (84, 80, 78, 75, 69):
Helm of Telepathy [attunement]
Gloves of missile snaring [attunement]
Figurine of wondrous power (silver raven)
Eversmoking Bottle
Bag of Tricks (Gray)

Table G (50, 42, 85, 82, 83):
Instrument of the bards (Cli lyre) [attunement by bard]
Flame tongue [attunement] - Any sword
Staff of withering [attunement by cleric, druid, or warlock]
Staff of healing [attunement by bard, cleric, druid]
Staff of swarming insects [attunement by bard, cleric, druid, sorcerer, warlock, wizard]

You deside what kind of weapon those weapons are. A sword or a bow or whatever you want
Jan 10, 2022 2:12 pm
Hello everyone. A few things/questions:
@Dramasailor you have got even worse items than I did. I'm happy to share one of my +2 weapon with you. If DM allow that I could even pick one that you choose.
@Everyone - I will be able to borrow any 2 of those 3 overlapping items: Boots of striding and springing; Slippers of spider climbing; Ring of jumping
@runekyndig - would we also have some money to purchase for example simple non magical full plate ? Or my lvl 15 char be wear 75 gp worth chain mail ?

Regarding class selection: I want to choose between charisma based paladin and dex based, stealthy fighter. Let me know if anyone else considering cha based character: we don't need two party face characters in the party, do we? Fighter on the other hand only excel at solving problems with brute force.

P.S @runekyndig I'm just curios about "remains of the previous adventure party": does it mean party of why Adam, HeroAmongMen, W4yw0rd and Len PCs died there and we continue the dungeon as they left it?
Jan 10, 2022 2:53 pm
I'm actually good with the flametongue weapon. I'm considering going college of valor bard (kind of a duelist feel that uses some evocation magic to oomph up the interactions).

I had considered doing something like a bard/druid hybrid but wasn't thrilled with how it was working out in my head.

I think in general, we may have less need of consistent party faces, given that it's really a focused one shot kind of feel, rather than a campaign where we'll have decisions causing story changes weeks and months down the road.

Happy to be joining :)

I'd like to try an archer build, maybe a fey wanderer or a drakewarden. Maybe I'll find a way to multiclass with a druid. As for items I'd like to pick the Bracers of Archery as well as a slick longbow +2. This should leave me with 5 item rolls. Fingers crossed:

Periapt of proof against poison, Vicious weapon, Ring of animal influence, Sentinel shield, Staff of the python

So are we allowed to swap items amongst each other?

If not, I hope I can use shield and staff to decorate our camp at night or maybe ... stir our stew?
