'It was something called an adherer...whoevver first discovered one of these should not have been in charger of namming it... Khadi puts her crossbow away as she looks at it. 'This house needs to stop being sneaky with its not-undead.' She grumbles good naturedly.

"Agreed. Though it is good to remove these evil beings from the premises no matter their nature, I much prefer to know what I'm fighting."

Skarab does what he can to clean the bolts he scavenges from their attack, and then he loads a crossbow bolt into the bow and cocks it for the next enemy that crosses their path. He says, "Good work, everyone."
He looks around at this friends for the most grievously wounded one, and says, "Let me heal you."

When laying your hand upon a living creature, you channel positive energy that cures 1d8 points of damage +1 point per caster level (maximum +5). Since undead are powered by negative energy, this spell deals damage to them instead of curing their wounds. An undead creature can apply Spell Resistance, and can attempt a Will save to take half damage.

The figures find no traps on the stairs. You descends down and step out into a new chamber.
The air in this chamber is cool. The walls and ceilings are tiled with stone, but the floor is hard-packed earth, giving the area an unfinished quality. A long stone table rests against the western wall, flanked by two large brass urns. A flight of steps ascends to the south (that you came down), while two passages lead north and east out of the room.

An earthy scent fills this large chamber. The ceiling and walls are tiled with stone, but the ground is bare earth. Stone benches are set against the east and west walls, and torch holders are mounted in the corners and on either side of a wide doorway to the west. The beginnings of several shallow, rough passages have been started along the eastern wall and in the southwest corner, but the excavations are incomplete, ending in earth and rubble after only a few feet. At the south end of the room, a short, wide flight of steps descends to a set of stone double doors.
As you enter the room, a mess of undead house cats swarms up from the passage down and attack.
Everybody can act first, other than Khadi.

Tabat holds forth his shield and steps to the creatures, expecting the tide of filthy felines to wash over him. He slashes at the mass of small creatures with his khopesh.
Also, if this is a true swarm I think the shield forces them to pass a Will DC 11 check if they want to enter my space.
