If you already applied on the Tavern thread, you should already have a good idea of your character's background and how they think. Create your 1st-level character sheet with the point buy system for ability scores.

If you have spells or other features that aren't from the Player's Handbook, please note where they can be found.

With items and equipment, make a note of what your class and background are supposed to give you, then decide what your character might actually have on their person, based on their story. I will make sure that the remaining items can be found relatively early.

Due to the shock of the fall, characters will also start out at half of their max HP.

I am deciding between a Knowledge Cleric, a Divination Wizard, and a Celestial Sorcerer. If any of those overlaps with your character plans, let me know and I'll pick one of the other options.

It was a toss up for me between Bard and Rogue. I went with Rogue as I think it would fit my character's circumstances better to the point that Zatta fell.

I have some questions about the culture of Zatta.

As a floating city, was it more like Eberron's Sharn or Plane Shift: Kaladesh?

Was it common place for everyone to openly carry weapons and wear armor?

If so, was it more shield, sword, and platemail, leather and rapiers, or pistols?

Was the city's buoyancy due to magic or science?

What was the technology level of the city?

It would help to know some of these things in deciding what items and equipment feel right for our PCs to start.

Alright, I'll take a stab at this:

Didn't actually know anything about Kaladesh yet! I did take a little bit of inspiration from Sharn though.

Probably not. I envision Zatta as a place where such things are discouraged or borderline illegal for the average citizen. You'd be more likely to hear of a chilling murder case than a straight-up fight.

It's all magic-powered. There was an ancient system in place that even the highest-ranking scholars barely understood, and it basically kept this big landmass up supporting everything. When pieces of it eroded off, they would float next to it for a short time before separating from the spell. Other than that, there was a widespread magic-powered industry that allowed for higher-class people to start buying stuff that approaches our own 20th-century comforts. For others, if they were lucky they could get ahold of used "appliances" that had the enchantments starting to wear off.

Most of the above is pretty much what I thought, with except of the city's floating system. Which I thought would be a combination of magic and tech.

I have submitted Abercrombie for review. I believe I have all of her mechanics worked out. I may still tweak her starting gear to better integrate with the rest of group if needed and will likely expound on her background a bit in the notes section.

I'm thinking a fighter. Haven't figured out specifics, yet. I will probably have some manner of armor/ weapon on, but no adventuring supplies whatsoever (she was on her way to take her oath as a guard and would be dressed ceremonially, but almost nothing else). I will get something up hopefully tonight.

Gamelyn submitted. Let me know if you have any questions. It's all PHB stuff.

Greetings all! And thanks for the invite.

In regards to this, I'm currently leaning towards a Clockwork Soul Sorcerer; the orderly bloodline seems fitting for a noble.

I was thinking Artificer, class wise. I already stated the whole library thing, I was thinking the magic-device studies were his own personal hobby and encouraged by the library staff because it would mean he could maintain the anti-fire/vermin wards and whatnot when he got a bit more proficient with it. Just a great big nerd, albeit a more well-rounded one than usual thanks to the physical activity of having to constantly sort and schlep around big stacks of books.

Edit: Aaaand I accidentally moved off of the character sheet before hitting save, time to re-write everything a second time.

Very good. I went with Knowledge Cleric and have submitted Varen.

Character submitted. Might formulate a small blurb for his personality section from the last bit in his background section (but it felt best placed there as it's sort of an explanation of how his being came to be, I dunno). I'll also do some extra shopping possibly, and look over some formatting etc, but I arrived a bit late home so thought I'd get the background stuff down in complete first.

Question: I also had Sharn somewhat in the back of my mind when thinking of magic/technology. I detailed a time piece (eh, pocket watch) in the background. Thought it fitting for the setting, but not sure. Also not sure I can even afford one. So I could either delete it, buy it, or just say it's his arcane focus.

Question 2: While I used the standard equipment, there's A LOT of equipment this character don't really need or want (granted, it is nice to have in an adventuring sense, which was something I baked into the backstory), but I'm thinking off the top of my head that maybe I could sell off some stuff for its standard value or something? This character would rather have two extra sets of regalia than a crossbow... And who needs torches when you have magic or food when you have servants? (on the latter... I opted against the Retainer Noble feature, although it could've been interesting)

I don't think it would really break anything at this point, keeping in mind the amount of time available to pick up the pieces will be very short indeed. The watch sounds like a good arcane focus btw but it's up to you.

Arcane Focus sounds fine.

I've gone ahead and exchanged a few things - actually quite many things - for things that are super odd, not necessarily standard adventure gear, super in-character to have and bring (figuring the gear represents most of his surviving belongings), and that would be at, near, or around the character's bedside just inside from his position after the fall.
