Ye Olde Tavern in the nexus of worlds for you lot to converse outside of your characters

Just read your house rule on magic. I am not interested in playtesting such a system so if that is an integral part of your homebrew, I will withdraw and wish you luck with the game.

As mentioned, spell points are another option.

Very good then.

Questions about house rules:
How paladin divine smite will work if there are no spell slots?
Could I cast out of combat endlessly until satisfied? Spells such as cure wounds, false life, all sorts summoning spells, etc?
When summon or druid wild shape - will we use phb monster stats or your homebrew

We'll be just using the Spell Points from the DMG, as Verrain has protested against the rule I found via an article. If we were still using it, you would still roll outside of combat. As far as animals go, you'll still use those found in the books. The custom stuff only differs a bit from the normal.

cool, cool, cool. No questions if it is the Spell Points.

What page is the spell points on in the DMG? I can't find it lol

If/when we get into combat, do we use theater of mind or battle map?
Feb 2, 2022 8:36 am
Actually I have one decision to make: do you mind if I play a druid , Circle of the Shepherd, that heavily rely on summoning/conjuration spells?
I avoid playing such PC in online/irl games as it slows down combat. In PBP it could add extra work for DM to manage i.e. "Eight beasts of challenge rating 1/4 or lower" on top of everything else.

Another subclass i would like to play is start and I would max summon single creature (Summon beast or summon elemental), but having spell points you may not like following sublass feature:
"You can cast guiding bolt without expending a spell slot. You can do so a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest."
Would this feature work like "without spending spell points" ? Would it fail your purpose of making spell resource management simpler?

It'll be theater of the mind primarily, as about 90% of my posting Is done from my phone at work. Maps will generally go up when I have one to give a better idea of the environment.
That said, I do need to brush up on OTFBM.

As far as the animals go, I can find a way to manage them. And in regards the the guiding bolt, it really just answers itself, since the feature states they just don't go off of one's proficiency modifier, which would just be 3 times until the end of the first act

I believe that if I summon one or more creatures, then I have to control, roll ect for all of them. The only problem for a GM is the extra targets for his monsters to attack.

I'm also a firm believer in rolling unmodded saves for the monsters when I cast a spell that calls for a save. Let's say I cast Hold Person on an enemy. Then I roll unmodded saves and informs of the DC. Then all the GM have to add is the monsters modifiers to see if it passes or not. I can even narrate the result if its a clear pass or a clear fail. If the die roll and the DC are just 4-5 points apart, then leave it for the GM to interpret

Well, I mean I've seen DMs who want to double check or even be in control of HP, AC and conditions for my PC and my minions.
Also - if we would have battle map instead of TotM then moving my summonings around the map

But even with TotM and player managing their minion status I still see a burden, because:
I will use my minions to surround enemies and either block them from moving or have each minion to opportunity attack them... it could become messy. Probably. Actually I have no idea, I was just afraid it could be a problem
If DM is fine with minion swarm, then I'm happy to play Shepherd.

Question: Tieflings and demons are those a thing in this setting?
Feb 2, 2022 5:34 pm
Similar question, I am considering playing a goblin. How are goblins considered in your setting?
Feb 2, 2022 7:17 pm
Oh wow, I just realized I forgot to add a few races... After going down a list too :p Yeah, tieflings are around in the world.
In terms of goblins, you've got some that are still roaming around like bandits, but there's a good count that have decided to make peace with humanoids.

As a bit of errata since I forgot a few races:
Satyr
Tabaxi
Tortle
Warforged

What is the history with the Warforged?
How made them? Why? What was their purpose? Is that purpose still valid?

I have a soft spot for the warforged and their upcoming smaller cousin the Autognome Easy read, full UA link

It's a bit in the early stages with my world, but, the warforged were discovered inside of curious, ancient ruins that seemingly randomly spring from the ground and lead down below. Some were inactive, and those that weren't, were either hostile, trying to protect something inside, or friendly. Any warforged found in the world are likely to be one of the friendlier type. Though, there are a few that were made recently, in an attempt to understand their workings. If they were made recently, they have a high chance of coming from the floating mage island of Mistral City.

I am now seriously considering a warforged/autognome in white ceramics just like the Alita Battle Angle "Doll" body
She would definitely be girl sized with every problem that entails. A very small medium warforged or an autognome if you don't judge that one to powerful.

There is beautiful artwork here and a
wonderfull animation
